I have a friend I want to get into manga, so I thought I'd try and find a series she'd like. She's into british (mostly male) pop bands, so....

Manga centering around band life? At least one hot/cute guy a must.

Genres I think she'd like:
- romance
- drama
- josei
- psychological
- humour
- shonenai

I would recommend Gravitation if I didn't hate it with a passion. There was an uber angsty oneshot by Kaori Yuki (that's her name ne?) I forget the title but the band was Endorphine, I think.

She might like Nodame Cantabile(sp?), thou I stopped reading it after a chapter.

Anyway that is my request!
(Ps I did a forum search and didn't find a similar topic, but I'm on my blackberry so I might have easily missed it)

I've only seen the movie (haven't got around to reading the manga yet), but I'm sure your friend would enjoy Nana.

There's also Beck, but I don't think it has the mood you want.

Detroit Metal City

I'll even recommend Kaikan Phrase, as much as I hate that mangaka. >.> Though the anime seems to focus more on the actual band...the manga is more about the romance.O_O

FWIW, La Corda d'Oro isn't about a band. It's about a music competition (all classical music so far I believe), and the spirit of music, but not a band.

I haven't seen the Kaikan Phrase anime, but if it's more about the band and less about the wimpy girl and the possessive lead singer, I'd be interested. (I stopped reading Kaikan Phrase at ch35 because the cliches just rolled from one right into the next, and it was killing me.)

BECK isn't any of those genres, but I think it's one of the best and most well-known band mangas and I think it's good. ^^

It's Yuki Kaori's Kaine.

Yokan if she doesn't mind yaoi and rape (not explicit though). I don't like the rape but I like the story. Would have been better without the rape BTW. embarrassed

Akkan Baby - many people think it's funny.

I would think you are after manga about rock/pop bands. If classical music, etc can fit then I would suggest Doll - not about a band but seems to be about musical actresses/actors (sort of like Broadway).

Aren't there some manga/manhwa about boy bands or idols? Could anyone find the titles?

Ou thanks for reminding me it was Kaine~~

Nana is a good recommendation! La Corda D'Oro looks pretty and will probably suit her, and I hate to say it but I bet she'd like Kaikan Phrase (even though it doesn't look like my thing, keh).

I think she would enjoy some elegant classic music stories too :3

I'm not sure she'd like Beck, but it does remind ME that I've been meaning to read/watch it~ And DMC is for me and not her too, ke. I've real Solanin too, it's great demo, it's not very typical manga and I want to get her addicted you know? Ahah. I will also save Yokan for when she's addicted and reveals her boylove phase, ahah.

Thanks for the recommendations! There has to be more out there though, no? Like base_coat said, manhwa with boy idols/boy bands...?

Well, if you want a boy idol, you could try Tenshi ja nai!! - it's also gender bender, but it's pretty well done.

If you want girl idol, maybe Full Moon wo Sagashite ?

For anime, she might like Chance Pop Session.

White Album (ABENO Chako) also has girl idol singers. Not sure whether it's different from the anime (hope so)? I just say that I like the manga's art style better.

There's a (shoujo) manhwa about a guy idol singer and the main girl has to cross-dress, something like that. Could anyone remember the title?
