Background
Heroine has to be no more than twelve or thirteen years old, younger is fine, but can't exceed 13. wink Preferably not so idiotic, but considering that most heroines this age are optimistic, straight-forward and naive (in other words, Naruto) this is perfectly acceptable.

Male Love Interest
Older than 16 years old please. XD Or at least demonstrates some kind of wisdom or awareness; don't want to read about little guys going 'ewww cooties' or in the height of their puberty.

Boys that fit the criteria : Ikuto from Shugo Chara (17 years old) and Ayuzawa from Fly High! (Older, handsome but currently a scheming bastard with a soft spot.)

The reason for this request?
Considering that the shoujo manga genre is filled with clingy, weak heroines with brain cells that don't exactly function like normal girls do (for example, computing that a rapist means your prince charming), all which revolve in their high-school years/university, even in their mid-twenties (!) then I'll take a breather by taking a look at what their younger counterparts do.

Often, they tend to be surprisingly better than the mainstream shoujo!

Turn Off Your Brains
Middle school love stories are generally fluffy and a light representation of the average shoujo love story. It's just easier to go along the flow, and when the heroine does stupid things, or pulls a "love conquers all!" speech, it's definitely easier to stomach. You know you're not expecting something philosophical or deep in this type of stories, so since it promises a fun ride, then why not?

Some of my most favourite shoujo titles contain heroines that are really young!

Have read :
Ashita no Nadja (anime though)
Shugo Chara
Fly High
Sugar Sugar Rune
Kodomo no Omocha
Full Moon wa Sagashite
Gakuen Alice
Edit: That manga with the ten/fourteen year old girl and the thousand year old demon, can't remember. I'd pass on this recommendation, thanks. ^^

Kagen no Tsuki has a little of what you're looking for.

You can try Gakuen Alice if you liked Kodocha. But it doesn't have an older male (like Kodocha).

Does it have to be a shoujo?

I may be wrong, but check out Baby Love. IIRC the heroine barely pass the age requirement.

Maybe From Far Away? .... I think. She might be a 1st year high school student. Defiantly fluffy and older male/love conquers all, though.

Erm... aren't they in Elementary school? :3

In fact I said if she liked Kodocha because she put Kodocha in the list of what she read, so I suppose she's looking for something similar.
Sana from Kodocha is 11. Mikan is 11. I don't think one year less of what she said she's looking for is so relevant to avoid suggesting it.

Second From Far Away. One of the best shoujos out there, IMO.

I also agree, if you liked Kodomo no Omocha, you'll like Gakuen Alice.

Kamichama Karin - Fits the age requirement, but the love interest is her age. He has a sort of mature attitude, though. I think it has the feeling you're looking for too, and anyways it is VERY funny.
Full Moon o Sagashite - Age fits for both the girl and guys (a somewhat love triangle), but the plot is more drama than fluff. Still a cute read, though.
Midori no Hibi - Even though the main girl is 16, she is very optimistic, cheerful, and naive. It's shounen, but it is such a great romantic comedy you won't mind.

Reid1, I forgot to mention that I have already read Gakuen Alice - thanks for the recommendation though. wink Yes, I do like the series, if only because the main pair is rather adorable, heh.

I also forgot to mention that I've already read Full Moon (well, I've watched the anime, and is about halfway through the manga so it counts laugh ).

On Midori no Hibi, I'd rather stay away from these types of stories in regards to this thread request, as I was really looking for middle school (elementary school is fine) love stories, not comedy shounen where the heroine is 16 years old. ^^ Thanks though!

I'm pretty sure they're in high school though.

I think a few titles are high-school based - I'm specifically looking for middle-school heroines, thanks. wink

These stories tend to run in publications like Nakayoshi or Ribon. Have you read any titles that might interest you? Feel free to share!

And thanks for the other recommendations, to those who helped out!

I just remembered one of my favorites, Hime-chan no Ribon. Again, I think the male is the female's age, but he isn't a bishi snob and he's quite refreshing. It is a maho-shoujo so it has fluff, but it doesn't involve any cliche world-saving. Just a girl who can transform and run amok. Highly recommended.

Are you alright with even younger girls, as in from 9 to 11?
