This is probably why I like the rare legitimately overpowered protagonist who can obliterate the so called "strongest" with a single look above every other cookie-cutter shounen MC.(Rai from Noblesse).

That's my reason for liking Rai so much from Noblesse. I just loved how he just curb stomped everyone and had no problem killing others when needed. It was a refreshing change that I saw.

Nakama power (Fairy Tail)... There is really nothing worse than that. NOTHING.

This is my worst cliche that I was going to post. I seriously lost my shit when I saw the part where,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
during that island arc that Nastu and them seriously thought they could take on a dark guild guild master who was barely injured, while they were completely exhausted.
But no worries, they had the power of their Nakama!

ugh

Seriously for the people who say that you dun want the character to say out their move when fighting. You want to see them just punch each other and disappear in the middle of battle and suddenly the enemy heart is crush?

Btw i dun see much manga with sudden power up care to reccomanded me some biggrin

harems, able to get a girl out of her clothes in every other chapter, bloodshot nose, perverted parents ( mostly father), nearly always acts the same with no real character growth, that all men have a stash of pornos, the ending where the mc doesn't choose who to be with and has every single girl falling over him still, super twisted ideals of other characters, how they always fight to become stronger but WHY?

Quote from whatnot
some-random-old-man:"Don't go there young'uns, nobody has gone there and came back alive."
some-random-young-hero:"We'll see, pops."

When the hero gets to the end of the path, he finds a pizza joint where everything is on the house. Also, the old man talks to a ghost named Bob that travels regularly along the path. That explains the whole story of the path. Now let's go on to talk about that haunted house...

Quote from Mamsmilk
A guy getting a harem by being nice.

It is cliche, but it happens a lot. I've had multiple girls after me for being nice to them, but not the same nice from manga. Nice like complimenting their bodies and personality, not something dumb like helping them carry boxes laugh I don't think italics were necessary, though. It's almost like your saying it's not possible, but that may just be me bigrazz

What? It'd be much better if they just beat eachother quietly, but why would they disappear in the middle of the fight and the antagonist suddenly have his heart crushed? That makes no sense whatsoever. You also need to sharpen up on your English skeels. Anyways, I'm pretty sure you can find those series you wanted recommended by reading any shounen series with fighting involved. Clicking the category "super powers" would also help in your search.

That is all that comes to mind.

What shounen are you reading? That sounds more like a hentai or borderline H. roll eyes
Also, the lack of character growth isn't cliche. It's a fault in the mangaka's writing. Seriously though, that sounds like a borderline H manga.

Looking at some of the more recent posts makes me wonder if some of you know what a cliche is. Like Dragoon119's comment doesn't contain any cliches besides the first one. I guess the peeping one is alright if you switch "bathroom" for "outdoor hot spring bathing area."

Bitching aside, these are the shounen cliches I hate the most:
~Obviously, yelling out attacks. That's so stupid I can't begin to comprehend it. I once yelled out attacks when I was sleeping with a girl (a bar whore lol). We were drunk, she was a masochist. I'd yell "Focus punch!" or "Double slap!" and punch (lightly, I am a gentleman ahahaha) and slap her ass respectively. Mustn't forget "Fury attack!" "Hydro pump!" and "Sand attack! Ahhhgg your accuracy dropped!" laugh It was weird because she liked and encouraged it (she didn't catch the Pokemon references lol). Ah, memories...
~Falling on top of a girl with the guy's face landing in the girl's breasts while he's thinking "soft" and wondering what he's his head is laying on as if it wasn't damn obvious enough.
~Harems that include a tsundere girl, a loli girl, a slutty(ish) and outspoken girl, a childhood friend girl, and all other marvelous variations of girls that's don't exist. Hell, all harems annoy me. If they were more realistic, like with how the guy goes about getting these girls to fall for him, it'd be tolerable.
~The main character has been beaten to a gooey pulp only to get some power-up from sheer willpower so they can "protect what precious to them." Psht!
~How the girl the main character is after never says anything definitive in the thought bubbles, i.e. "He's always there for me. I think I..." God, I hate that so much. They never finish the sentence, even though you know it's should end with "love him."
~Some emotionless twit has tears streaming down their face and says "Eh?" Like they didn't feel their eyes watering up. It's like they're confused about this liquid coming from their eye. I always wish it was the fluid within the eye coming out because characters like that need something terrible happen to them so they can be all truly spiteful towards humanity and civilization.
~Super evil antagonists who rape, pillage, plunder, and murder is defeated by the protagonist only to join forces with him a little later on. "You took my family hostage and raped my mother in front of my father's and my eyes. So long as you're regretful, I will forgive you." No, please finish him. Damn pussies scared to end a life.
~A male tsundere character who sides with the protagonist but never admits being friends. Those guys must be homosexual or something. Bi-curious at least. eyes
~When real martial arts has over-the-top details like swirls around a thrown punch or an explosion out the back of an opponent who just got punched in the stomach.
~Super muscular, 200 lb, 6 ft tall 13-year-old Japanese kids. This is most prevalent with the "delinquents" or the leader of a club (like judo or something). The average weight and height of an adult Japanese male is 5'7" and 140 lbs. Kids must be taking steroids.
~The spindly guy with glasses always pushing them up with his middle finger. This character is always witty and strong for his size. Ishida from Bleach is a good example. His clothes are FAAAB-U-LUUUUSS and anyone his size would be a pussy and likely bullied. This is like some propaganda to make scrawny, bespectacled kids feel better about themselves despite having inferior eyes (usually among other things).
~Shitty date scenes where the main character goes to a festival where they wear a yukata or to a theme park. Whatever happened to bringing a girl out to dinner and slipping a Rohypnol (commonly called rufies) in her drink? Jeez.
~A series of foes, the next one much stronger than those before. None of the weaker foes can put a scratch on any of the stronger foes. I've never liked that because it can be interpreted as being possible (mostly in martial art manga). While one guy may be able to beat most of the guys below him, there will always be a fighting style that can beat the strong guy's, even if the person was a weaker foe.
~The main character doesn't get the girl until the end of the manga. He never confesses and only makes half-hearted attempts to convey his feelings. Then, in the end, he finally confesses his love and gets the girl. I'd like to see an ending where the love interest is always glued to the protagonist throughout the series and when the guy confesses, the girl is disgusted and says no. The next page should say "The End" and that's that. It'd be funny if, say, the mangaka for Berserk just got tired of writing that story and ends it with one chapter. Said chapter would just be a rushed series of fights including the final boss (one page per battle for about 20 pages) and the girl never regains her memories and continues to hate the main character. Then she dies because she's retarded (seriously, she is a chest beater after losing her memories, can't even speak) and ate a few poisonous spiders and the MC thinks that he should have tried to score with the girl from the church. Then he settles with being a pedophile and takes that little witch girl's ass. The end. That would make me piss myself laughing after my fit of rage.
~"Blah blah precious friend blah," "Protect blah blah precious blah," "Blah precious [tangible object] blah blah." I hate how everything is precious. It's like listening to Gollum from Lord of the Rings. I know much is due to the translator, but using a thesaurus once in a while would be nice. Words that come to mind would be beloved, dear, cherished, or treasured. Just because the Japanese only have one word for it doesn't mean the translation should stick to the same, overused word as well.
~"Ah, some ribs are broken. I'll continue fighting as if nothing is wrong. First, I'll twist around a bit so I get a FUCKING PUNCTURED LUNG." Having broken ribs HURT. You can't bend or twist without pain. If the ribs weren't tended, the sharp edges would cut up your insides. You could fight, but you would quickly puncture your lung and your endurance and stamina would plummet. Broken ribs = lost fight. Unless you have a weapon, preferably a gun. Did I mention broken ribs hurt? They do.

I could go on for hours, but I'll end it here. Was trying to see how long I could make a post, but I grow weary of typing pointless bullshit that carries no gain. I can only do so much. no

I hate it when the evil guy boostes about his plan to the hero.
The hero always escapes and uses this knowledge to defeat the villain.
When you are supposed to be evil and capture your enemy you just kill him, no worries.

As many here mentioned: weak-minded characters. Of course they're not ought to be Kaminas and Onizukas, but still, all those too hesistative characters that DON'T grow at all in like 300 chapters of serialization are just annoying (Sena from Eyeshield was at times, Ichigo is semi-weak, Simon at the beginning etc). Yeah, I'm not saying that all rl people are decisive but spending 3 chapters on characters who whine and think of solution is just terrible, especially if this happens in middle of a fight.

OH, and that love of cliffhangers! Make 2 pages of 17 pages chapter showing character with shocked face and then some idiotic revelation 20 chapters later (Heya, Fairy Tail!). Many guys consider Naruto to be utterly terrible, but I can say in defence that author handles them(cliffhangers) pretty well, though he, too, suffers from these prolonged revelations.

Another one: geniuses, multi-talented sons and daughters of super great sportsmen, scientists and wealthy billionaires that make Bill Gates depressed with their eliteness (Sabu-chaaan); generally all this crap about bloodlines and superior genes and stuff. Yup, there are those that are better than you at something, but that doesn't make them aliens from outer space with iq over 9000 or athletic abilities of olympic winners.

Worse: make ecological manifesto for 100+ chapters call it Chimera arc and make a lame ending where mutants were "better that stupid huuumans who never change, just because mutants realized that it's bad to eat people". Well, and so on. I am not rooting for spread of knowledge of biology, but seriously it's already past time where you could pretend to be smart by saying that humanity are parasites, they pollute nature and crap written in some other more fancy words. It only shows authors cliche minded thinking and in case of Mr Togashi it's strange since he is considered to be one of intellectual authors, no?

If a character thinks of a plan before putting it into action, and we are allowed to know what the plan is, it will fail.

First blow to main villain will hit the target, but won't do damage much to the shock and disappointment of the other characters. However, after a long-ass fight, main villain will go down with a simple punch (or a basic tecnique).

Main character starts with a clear goal in mind, but after two arcs or three main goal is forgotten and all is just about saving the world.

There is always a good but ambiguous character who will be tempted to go to the dark side but won't do it in the end, or will just make everyone think that he has done it, but only to act as a spy or something like that.

A supporting character will get in a life-threatening situation, will survive but with permanent damage, putting his carreer to an end. However he will make a comeback, if not healed at least helping in the way he can.

There is this character who shows up only later in the story, and that the main character hates for something he has done, but he's actually a good guy and was just trying to save the day in his own way.

Final battle with supporting characters just cheering, all of them, for the main character.

There is always a smart character who has a smart plan to kill off the villain pretty early in the story, but something goes wrong and the villain is saved out of luck.

Someone will go into a coma for a while.

Main character's teacher is the most likely to die.

Main character will actually go near death less than every other character in the story, even if he fights ten times more battles.

The rescue made just in time, and characters just showing up one after another on the battlefield in a cliffhanger loop.

The scene with the almost useless character who courageously tries to buy some time, puts out a good fight, is almost killed but in the end survives.

The character who doesn't want to do anything, but "just for this time" will help the others.

Villain's first appereance happens in front of non-important characters who are then killed, either they are good, bad, or we aren't even supposed to know.

There's someone with a bandage which covers one of the eyes, either because of a special power, or because of a deep story which will be told through an infinite flashback.

Filler chapter in the middle of the final arc.

The last chapter is about the minor characters who hadn't even appeared for ages: main hero is shown in the last two pages and gets to say two lines at maximum.

And so on

When the good guy wins and/or sacrifices himself. Why can't the main antagonist win just once?
Also unrealistic "geniuses" who make huge mistakes or whatnot.
I think the biggest thing is that it's near impossible to find manga that little kids (like 9) can read. The best I've found would be Cardcaptor Sakura, and that's more of an "all ages" sort of thing.
Oh yeah, and there's almost never a female lead who is cooler and stronger than the male and if there's a foreigner, they're blonde and most likely ditsy.

You haven't read many Shounen lately have you. There is plenty of manga coming out with a female leads that are stronger and cooler than the male (pretty much every harem) outside of Harems though Medaka Box is the first that comes to mind.

For me the worst cliche might be the indecisive male lead in harems (though some newer manga are breaking that cliche), the harem or love triangle stories where the final pairing is obvious right from the start.
The worst though has to be the hero whose power is to talk and 'change the mind of the villain' (Naruto, To Aru Majutsu no Kinsho Mokuroku I am looking at you)
