Just a few months ago I finally got rid of that phenomenon where anime drives your interest in manga.

So now they both (the interests) are pretty separate and are able to complete each other.

IMHO that kind of aproach allows for maximum enjoyment from reading/watching manga/anime.

usually the anime doesnt live up to the manga, but is made in a good way, so if you don't know the manga you'll actually like the anime very much, but if you know the manga first, you go off to think 'damn why the hell did they that shit and why the hell did they shorten that part'... whereas if you read the manga later, you'll think "ah, so thats behind that and now i understand better!"...
if the anime is bad, without even knowing the manga, i'll try the manga too, to see if the anime just screwed up.

I feel the same smile

I read/watch whatever I get my hands on first. But if I had to choose, then I would do a bit of research, find out which one has more material, and start with the one that has less.

In other words, I would watch the Fruits Basket anime first, then read the manga because the manga goes further than the anime. (I watched the anime first anyway because that's what I got first).

That way, the second time round offers something new, rather than treading the same ground in a different medium.

i normally read the manga first, because if its not interesting then ive only wasted like 10 mins on 1 chap, but id have wasted 30 mins on 1 ep in the anime

I wonder, why hasn't anyone said something about sound and animation - I prefer wathing anime, and reading manga after that because when reading manga I can remember and imagine how it sounded/looked in anime, and enjoy manga much more. Of course, I also read mangas without watching anime - those ones who don't have it.

i like reading the manga over the anime cause the manga tends to flesh out the story more than the anime

i've recently found out that the manga versions are more interesting to read so yes i'd prefer manga versions to anime, except for when there're scenes that would be better viewed in animation rather than drawn(action scenes).

My imagination is more powerful than any animation. Therefore, unless the animation is extremely well cast and adapted, anime is usually more frustrating than satisfying. But there are a few series, that are quite well done. Then again, I prefer to read book of text even more than manga.

Manga first. Not really a preference but it just so happens that the animes came out after I've started on the manga series. But reading beforehand really makes the anime less appealing.

I read the manga first since the story is always ahead of the anime
