So basically i want a shounen/seinen manga where the character had a tragic love in the past and maybe it acts like a barrier to him/her throughout the manga to open up and love again.

I think Cross Game fits pretty well. The tragedy is also a major aspect of the story.

Try Men's Kou. Technically its a shoujo but its from guys' points of view and its well worth the read.

second this. was going to suggest this as well but decided not to cos you didn't want a shoujo but seriously you will like this. Good art, good characters and nice plot.
