Sup, I just watched the X anime again and am in the mood for sad romances like with Sorata, in the shounen/seinen genre (Though if seinen no gore/extreme violence, rape, or explicit sexuality).

By tragic or sad I also include anything in which a good male character is betrayed, hated, or completely misunderstood by the woman he cares for, and isn't resolved without some pain on his part (not like Mx0 where the misunderstandings only last for like 3 chapters). I also don't mind death of a character if the romance isn't in the main characters, but for some reason it seems like female deaths are more common, I want males dying only.

No Yaoi, non-sexual Shounen-ai is acceptable. And Shoujo is okay but only if a male protagonist.

Also, happy endings are okay, I'd actually prefer something where if there isn't death they end up together, but it's not necessary. I also like when women willfully do the damage and realize they were wrong later, but again not necessary.

Thanks in advanced.

I know it doesn't fit exactly what you're looking for but Basilisk is the only sad shounen romance I can think of. It's an excellent manga but it is a classic Romeo and Juliet. (Meaning a tragic ending.)

Thanks, but I read it, and it's not exactly what I'm looking for at the moment.

I've read it. My bad, I would add a list of ones I've read, but I cannot remember all of the manga I've read...

Also, I'm not big into sci-fi. Historical and fantasy is fine though.

I never read or watched X so have no idea about that if it's exactly what you are looking for.
Love Letter (SEO Kouji) is a tragic shounen romance.

Not shounen, but perhaps you won't mind these seinen romantic tragedies?

March Comes in Like a Lion - BRILLIANT, do NOT miss this!
Our Happy Hours
Poppoya Love Letter - another masterpiece, UNMISSABLE!
51 Ways to Protect Her
Bitter Virgin
Solanin - tragic element only comes in about halfway through, I think
Densen Complex - short stories tho, not one long plot-line
Sundome
Present - one-shot

Shounen romantic tragedies:

Alive
Chrono Crusade
Half & Half - just a one-shot
Hello Baby - again, just a one-shot... technically not romance but the tragedy is
Valkyria Chronicles
Crimson-Shell
The Castle of Dawn - Osamu Tezuka, can't miss this!

I hope you enjoy. smile

Vampire Juujikai - not much romance, but it hints at it, so I guess it might not fit. However, it is veeery tragic, and the male dies. One of my most favorite mangas EVER. Give it a try.

Then again, I really don't think this manga fits. Um.....sorry in advance. ^.^'

But theres no tragedy in this really. I mean they have to survive through an earthquake but it was a good thing in a way because it brought the couple together
