Blade of the Immortal, Pluto (although I don't really like the way he draws), Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Eden: It's an endless world, Vinland Saga
I don't really like mangas with childish or weird art even if they had a decent story line, few examples: Ciguatera, Ubel Blatt, Solanin, I''s, these are all mangas that had pretty good storylines but (in my humble opinion) unlikable art.

Great art is a bit too subjective to judge so I put some examples for mangas that have great/deep story. Say if any of those are to your liking.

A friend of mine also suggested Vagabond. I see that's it's already 32 volumes by now, does anyone know how long it is going to drag?

Hoshi no Samidare--you probably won't like the Art. It was ok enough for me though didn't really matter because even though the art was just about average really or pehaps even below, the storyline was so great it fully made up for it so give it a try and see.
Parasyte--old school but still good art. Great storyline as well

Angel Beats--best anime of the 2010 spring season
