Hey, sorry I've posted a topic the third time this week but I'd recently read Towa ni Nemure, Tonari no Shugoshin, and First Girl as well as 100% Perfect Girl a little while back, and am suddenly looking for a good romance manga with a more European ambient, old Gothic buildings, or historic themes set outside Asia or in antebellum Japan (like Taisho or Meiji era Japan). I have a slight preference for a male lead with floppy (strawberry) blonde hair, but it's not a big preference and enjoy a lot of manga from different cultural backgrounds. bigrazz

Hey! just tried the first volume of Reimei no Arcana and it's looking pretty good. The character development isn't incredible, and arranged marriages are usually a turn off, but the plot looks interesting! Thanks for real!

You can try Emma (not shoujo but good! smile )

Dokuhime (Though I see haven't clearly seen the romance here... maybe you would like the European ambient)

And to end my recommendation, a traditional-modern Japanese story Fukuyadou Honpo (the art isn't that nice but the story's good)... but this is out of our request.

I also would like to add a Japanese movie... Tokyo Girl. (Cute smile )

You should like Bronze no Tenshi, a manga about the life of the wife of Alexandr Pushkin. It's lovely.
Waltz wa Shiroi Dress de, also by Chiho Saito, is another pretty historical manga. This one is pretty much the definition of antebellum, being set a few years before the Pacific war broke out.
You might also like Basilis no Musume, by the same author; the first part of the manga is set in Taisho-era Japan and the last is set in 1990s Paris.
Lady Mitsuko is an interesting little manga based on a true story set in Meiji Japan and Russia.
Yokohama Monogatari is another nice romance by the same author as Lady Mitsuko, also set in Meiji Japan.
Yami no Alexandra is set closer to the Gothic era you mentioned and is a very Gothic story indeed, in the more traditional literary sense of the word.

I haven't read it myself, but Cantarella fits the European gothic description. I don't know about romance though.

Wow thanks I read through the entire Antique Romance just now too (read your comment on the webpage bigrazz) and it was really good! Thanks so much for the recommendation, it was nothing like I'd expected.

I read Haikara san ga Tooru back when I was in high school. I read the original copy though and seem not scanlated yet... It was a very funny historical manga and set in Taisho era. I really like this manga and really want to read it again if it'd scanlated....

The only one that comes to mind is Emma, but I will steal some of these suggestions for myself, I am interested in this type of manga too. Emma's really good by the way. I wish there was some sort of sequel though. : ( Well there is one but one focused more on the main couple.
