So there are different terms on the net for these "comics" and people think they are all the same. In reality, these are different terms which are specific to their country of Origin mostly.
Manga - basically Japanese comics which is the basis of the naming of the website
Manhwa - basically the Korean equivalent of manga although it is read left to right rather than right to left
Manhua - Chinese equivalent to manga
So, when I search on this site, It appears kind of difficult for me to search specifically for comics of a certain language. The only thing that I knew to somewhat help me was go to a mangaka and go to the last name Kim or Park. Or go to Publishers and search for specifically Korean Published magazines and look. But overall, that is kind of a tedious thing to do. I was wondering maybe you could add these choices and allow you to filter like you can do with genre. Maybe add that as part of the genre or something.
I know this would be a lot of work, and my post will probably be disregarded, but I figured it was worth a try. Thanks for reading.

Actually, I also thought of this suggestion. It would be helpful if there was categorisation into manga/manhwa/manhua ^^

It would also help in the "I'm looking for..." section.

Y'know, I was just gonna suggest this myself!
And we all go through phases of genres, and some people might want to read some manhwa every once in awhile... But is there enough manhwa or manhua to make a whole section? ._.
And this is Baka-Updates MANGA. What to do

I'd like to have this categorization, but because I typically avoid manhwa. I don't find it particularly appealing (I think the stricter environment is the problem).

Yes, that would be a nice feature. I often search particulary for a Manhwa. There're plenty of them listed here at MU which is great. Besides it would be a big help to avoid confusion. In the commends of Manhwa/Manhua I often read that people call them Manga just because they're listed here.
What I actually really would like to filter out of my view are Manga-influenced Comics for the western market, e.g. Tokyopop in-house productions like Gothic Sports. Personally I find it weird to call a western comic book author "Mangaka". I'm not going and call a Japanese author "Comiczeichner" (lit. Comic drawer) just because his work imitates the German comic style. But maybe I miss the point of "cool naming for marketing reasons".
AniDB does it right here, imho, to not allow anime-influenced animations into the database (e.g. Avatar or The last Unicorn). On the other hand they restrict themself to Japanese anime only which leaves the other east-asian productions, like Korean anime, out as well. In MU's case would that mean to kick Manhwa and Manhua out, which would suck.
Ah well, in short:
If there's a system coming to tag/filter the listed series into their country of origin (Manga, Manhwa, Manhua), then I would really appreciate a fourth category for the series which are just east-asian comic-influenced (e.g. so called "Manga" by western authors for the western market) but not originally from there. MU has already listed quite a lot of them.
MU has grown into a very nice database. I'm not using it just to find a good read anymore but way more often to find/give information about series. Wherever you look at the web, when someone is talking about a Manga, the first link often goes to the series info here. It would only be nice to improve this research function by adding more specific tags/filters and the info about the original country is pretty much a basic information which is currently missing ;)

Those are OEL's (Original English Language Manga) and while they aren't technically manga, a lot of 'em have more in common with manga then with traditional American comics. (I happen to like a bunch of 'em.)
I'm just wondering where this kind of thing goes, as it's not technically a genre, more a categorization-which means it's either lumped in with genre (which could be confusing) or it gets its own section-probably a headache.

I just keep tabs on the scanlator teams that focus on manwha like K-manga
A search utility that people could add the tag 'manwha' or 'manhua' to would be nice though.

I totally agree. I'm also looking for manhwa and I have some problems to find them. It could be great to add that category.

I'm going to bump this because it sure as hell is annoying to find manhwas I want. -_-
I went on a manhwa search yesterday (UNSCANLATED search mind you) and I could not find the manhwa genres I wanted to find.
Why not an extra section in the pages that shows if it's manga/manhwa/manhua etc etc?
Sure as helll would make life much easier as I wasted 3 hours last night. -_-

I don't really like manhwa that much (weird art and left to right!), so I'd appreciate this addition. ^_^ thanks.
I agree and think it'd be a great addition. You could even just add Manhwa and Manhua as genres and assume that a manga that wasn't in them was a Manga, as this is a manga site... anyway, great idea, I agree!

Nah, not as genre~ But I do want to have this implemented in some way. So, I second this.
