Hello smile I think it'd be nice to have an option to hide old forum posts, or either that, to only show up to (#__ amount of old posts). I know you can basically find it by digging, but still. Unless there's already a way to do this and I'm unaware.... ;;

Wait by old posts do you mean your own old posts? Or old thread posts (so you don't see old threads ...) ?

What? Could you rephrase this ...

I believe old posts are automatically hidden when you click "New Posts" or "More New Posts."

No you would have to click the thread in order for it to get out of the "new posts", but any post after a few hours gets out of the "new posts"

Why? ... Sorry I don't see the reasoning behind this. (Sorry I think suggestions should come with a nice reasoning so this way it can be taken into consideration)
On your profile page it only shows your last 5 posts, and unless you go to see all posts by (your name)
It won't show any ....

(I find it nice to have an archive of posts I made.)

You know, when you make a request like this, it's pretty much a guarantee that somebody's going to get curious about just what's so embarrassing in your old posts and go searching through them to find out. Streisand effect and all. So anyways, did you ever wind up...

...reading Pom the Panda? Because it's a lovely little story... What, were you expecting a different question here?

@Kitty
The archiving is nice, I can see why people would appreciate it. This is an information base of sorts and I think that's just another form of it. But I'm used to anonymity, so I just find it weird there isn't an option for it here. It's not like this is the type of anonymity where people can do bad things...? (Probably) It's more like I just want it to be an option. Also, I'm conceited. Whenever I click on my username because I'm trying to look at my reading lists without signing in I always end up reading my old posts kind of out of curiosity of what 'past me' was like, and it's a terrible time waster. (For whatever reason I'm logged out, my cookies refreshed, on mobile, etc etc there was a short time when firefox only worked to log me in, and I don't use firefox).

@hahhah Yeah, I know. laugh It's okay though, I don't have anything i find too embarrassing in there. I'm looking more at my future self and perhaps others that feel the same way.
(I did sort of think of creating a new account just for this thread, but decided it wasn't worth it since it's bound to be forgotten soon enough, or hidden /hint)

/shakes fist. But yes. And it was as sad as I expected. I cried. Go read Pom the Panda if you haven't yet.

hmm I guess this sounds a bit harsh but:

No one gives a damn about the posts...
Even if you were some kind of celebrity here on MU people probably still wouldn't check your posts... You can ask mods to have posts removed but why would you hide them...
stalkers will still stalk you, if you want to be really anonymous either don't register at all or just don't post anything, but publicly exposing your opinion and then saying 'meh, let's hide it' is kind of... I think you get my point.

I used that feature a total of three times so far:
1. check an old topic of mine, I forgot the name of
2. check the current search criteria of someone I often exchange recommendations with
3. follow a suggestion of a member to look at his other topics

btw this is pretty much one of the most open minded forums around, so really, it doesn't matter, there won't be anyone who condemns you for what you do or did here. smile
(well except you were an complete a**, but mostly you get reported and your post deleted if you were^^)

Yeah, i kinda more or less feel that way too
(In the sense no one really cares)
Although i feel it would probably be different for celebrities...

Just saying it'd be a nice option since things just stay stuck forever. I dont really post much personal stuff but if you posted something a long time ago, it's still there.
Personally im not doing it solely for the anonymity. Im just obsessed with myself and reading old posts where i did have an opinion so i guess going back and editing my stuff to something like "bananas" would be helpful for me.

Anyway, i was thinking about the forum posts and thought it was sort of weird that there wasn't an option for some anonymity so i just decided to make it a suggestion.

Seriously i didnt think this would get blown up. Was expecting more of a yes or no, then done. Ehm, i guess it's no go then though, feel like it's been fairly negative feedback so far

But yeah... If mods end up reading this, could i actually ask to have this thread removed? Please and thank you

We will not be hiding any old posts

And I'm gonna lock this but not remove it

(Both sentences are based on the same reasoning of archiving)
