Description
Energetic and strong-willed, Beni doesn't care if she lives or dies as long as her death will result in embarassing her arrogant father! But one day, she suddenly encounters Kagetora, a ninja who's fallen from the sky and swears complete loyalty to her -- as her bodyguard. Kagetora has time traveled from a long, long time ago, and has devoted his life to protecting Princess Beni. Little does Kagetora know that this Beni is not the real princess... Can true love and honor survive after a centuries-long time warp -- in a crazy modern world?

Well, I kinda like the initial idea of the manga.. I mean, who wouldn't want super-HOT ninja as a bodyguard? Unfortunately, I feel that the plot turning rubbish after chapter 3, which is such a great disappointment to me cos the character design is so super NICE~!
Give it a try

I really like this story because it's so cute (and Kagetora is pretty hot). I'm so glad that Esthetique finally updated because I was worried that they would drop it. I couldn't wait that I had to download raws, and even though I can only understand some things here and there, it really does get more exciting. I would really recommend it.
Edit: Sure, the plot isn't really innovative, but let's be serious, how many shoujo mangas are? If you're looking for something that has the beginnings of a sweet love story with some dramatic events thrown in I think this is a good pick (especially if you like nice illustrations). Unlike some reviewers (who decide to just give it a bad review after just reading the summary, and then "confirm" their suspicions after one chapter), why not give it a try? And to be cliche, don't judge a book by it's cover. However, after reading it, I'm sure that you'll find that Konami-sensei's pretty covers match the cute, fluffy inside.

The synopsis turned me off many a times. But just happened that one day i got bored enough and started reading it.
Honestly, it's interesting enough, ninjas, time travel, hot guys, family circumstances. Mmmm..
While it's not a great story, it has a nice flow to it and i like how the main guy is not a rash idiot and the main girl is not overly indecisive and whiny. She is rather real, not too gusty but yet with enough pride in her to want to live her life her way.
One grip though, but really, it applies to all those time travelling mangas. I am quite a firm believer of the whole chaos theory/butterfly effect thing. Thus, the fact that they have been running across eras with no care and no effect whatsoever is highly disturbing for me.
Though i do admit, i suppose it's precisely due to this ability that this manga is somewhat different from most other typical shoujos. Also, i love how the present and past were juxtaposed and how she emphasizes on the fact that though it's a different time, the rules of time have never changed for them. It's a sad but pretty theme for me i guess.
Still, if you're not such a big nerd about the issue like me (i like my plots to actually make some sense) but instead would like a nice fluffy read with hot guys, read on.

When the story first started out, I thought it was decent; it was amusing enough, but didn't really hold my attention (That happens a lot whenever the main characters get together too quickly, since I'm never really interested by the character's tribulations after that).

I know a couple of people who reviewed below me said that the manga got worse after the beginning... but I've got to argue that it got a whooole lot better. Make sure you give it a try, because you'll probably love it. I do. XD <33

I'll admit it. Shinobi Life is basically a hodgepodge of 8 different stories, characters and plot devices rolled into one. Basically, you won't see anything ground breaking here. Despite that, the author does a good job of making something old and played into something interesting (the good illustrative work doesn't hurt either). The characters are likable, the plot will keep your attention and the art will keep you visually intrigued. Read it if you have the time.

normally I'm not really into shoujos but this manga completely changed my mind. The bishounen is a SUPER HOTT NINJA. What more can one ask for? This is a MUST read
thought it was going to be really cliche at first but...

got really better!! The main girl character is not that annoying(which is a big plus for me...I CANNOT tolerate shojo girls swooning every other second or being extremely dense to the point of insanity). Though Beni does have her "over dramatic" moments, she is far more realistic and (thank god) far less dense than most shojo female characters I have seen.
Though it does somewhat follow the typical knight-princess storyline (which was why I was reluctant to read it at first), the time travel part of the plot was really interesting, which was to my surprise since a lot of time travel shojo plots fall flat.
The plot has been really building up from the first few chapters and I am really looking forward to the rest.

I never seriously ever ! thought in a million years that I would come to like this manga.I always saw this but skipped it because the summery made the story seem..pretty booring. After rubbish manga after rubbish manga, I came back to this and I really didn't want to read this but I saw the 'greeat' reviews this manga received tbh that still wasn't enough and I was on verge of reading another manga, then on a whim I said fuuck it, let me see this manga for once and for all ! So I read the first few chapters and was shocked to see how nice the flow was because not for one instance did I have to force myself to read this manga, literally nothing went wrong... So from then on I was pretty much hooked. The funny thing is this has happened with all the best manga(shit summery, awesome story).
After reading the first 4volumes, I was in lover, I seriously was ...Then it came volume 5 and woow...it was amazing, the build up that goes on is consistent throughout, its taken me a day and half to read this and tbh I'm angry because once again, I end up loving a manga, but it takes so long for the chapters to be released that I end up losing interest and I'm sorry but I'm not gonna read manga for years...Just no ! Sigh**
I can tell where this manga is going and I just know its going to be a great happy ending! Errgggh I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M FINISHED !!! TUT*
Seriously if your having douts pllllleeeeasee for the love of god read it ! I can honestly say that this statement I am about to make is a Fact ! ...ALL SEEMINGLY INTERESTING MANGAS ARE CRAP, THE MANGAS THAT DON'T SEEM INTERESTING ARE THE FREEEEAKIN BEST !.
I.E: The one, Crimson Hero,KouKou debut and this manga which has now been added, this is a huge honour since these manga are the best I've read in all my ...experience of manga..Anyway I give this manga a 9.5 simply because it can't compare to The One
EDIT: I was right read it .

Sure the overall plot is kind of cliche, but it doesn't matter.
What's important is that the author is able to flesh out each character and provide some witty dialogue, which is exactly what Shouko-san did in this one. I thought that the progression of the relationship between Beni and Kagetora was excellent and the humor was actually funny.
Definitely recommend it!
