The art is simple, but yet really beautiful. It's all color, so obviously a lot of work has gone into making it. The coloring may be inconsistent at times, but who's really looking hard at the difference from one frame to another, right? The work that's put into it is amazing. The lines are clean. Very good on the eyes. To be honest, after reading quite a lot of manhwa, I have developed this stereotype of "manhwa art" --some of you might know what I'm talking about; a lot of manhwa has this specific type of art that's very angle-ly and a lot of emphasis on length. Even though this is a manhwa, the art is different from most manhwa I have read so far. It's sooooo much better!!

The whole romance thing is really interesting!! The heroine is super lovable. She is all that I love in a character. It's funny as hell, too. Haha!! The awkward silences are so well timed. It's perfect. I'm reading it right now as I typed this out. I cannot get enough of it so I end up reading all that's available in one go.
The romance is the center of the plot. At first, I did not see how the romance can ever develop between the two. The beginning part was more about the mystery of the guy. The heroine is not interested (in denial or otherwise) in the guy until ..hmmm.. way later on. But even though the actual romance develops slowly, there's so much of other stuff to keep you occupy. The romance is realistic; not the whole love-at-first-sight in shojo manga. The characters are deep; they have their own lives. The heroine is incredibly perceptive and sensitive, so she observes others very well. As a result, first person point of view is a breeze since seeing the world through the perceptive heroine's eyes showed us a lot of what's going on in the story. (It's not all 1st pov, of course (that would be too limiting)).

Updated: I just finished reading the latest chapter of the "2nd season," chapter 60--and I'm currently in love with this male protagonist. Technically, there seems to be 2 male leads now. It might turn into a love triangle later (spoiler, but not really). The male protagonist is so deep. Mysterious, a bit twisted and dark, but oh so interesting!! He's not one dimensional, that's for sure. I don't know what he's thinking and I don't know this type, so I can't predict what he's gonna do at all!! This makes for a very exciting romantic drama.

I really recommend this manhwa for people who want to get out of the typical shojoesque (sorry, using japanese term here) manga.

I'm not sure if it's because I've just finished the latest chapter (I LOVE YOU ODD SQUAD) or what, but this is seriously my favorite story EVER. Like for real!!!!! I have enough love for it to make me want to write a cheesy, fangirly (and valley-girl sounding) review for it.

Let's just skip the talk about the amazing plot (because you should just read it to find out for yourself) and let me drool over the characters:

Sul: I can't say enough about her! She's so realistic and likeable. She doesn't act like any of the cliche girls in manga/manhwa. Even though in the beginning her suspicions seem over the top, the truth is, I think I would act exactly like her. Who wouldn't be suspicious of the popular, too nice, seems-to-be-perfect guy suddenly acting (overly)friendly to you? I know, in real life, I would definitely doubt him. Especially with all the (sometimes confusing) past events that's happened involving him.

Yoo Jung: At first, I believed he was really fake. All of his actions seemed way too naive for me. Him being nice to Sul, his innocent jokes, and his generosity were all not believable. But recently...I've started to think he's being sincere (well, to Sul...He's still sorta sketchy on everything else). I'm still wondering what happened in the past to make him start wanting to be close to Sul, though. When I find that out, I hope it makes me like him better. For now, he's one of my least favorite characters. (But that still doesn't mean I don't like him. I actually do, just not as much as others.)

In Ho: Hmm...I don't really have an opinion of him yet. He kinda reminds me of Shizuo from Durarara!! though. Especially with the waiter/bow tie hate. I find him a little more attractive than Yoo Jung, but probably because he's left handed. I have a thing for lefties. Nearly all of my crushes/people I find attractive seem to be left-handed. It's a coincidence, I swear...

Bo Ra: I like her. Her happy-go-lucky personality is great. She's a great friend to Sul. No complaints, really...

Eun Taek: My favorite character (next to Sul). He's such a boss. I love him. I want to marry him, actually. Him, Bo Ra, and Sul are so cute together. He's such a good friend to Sul, as well (regarding the whole Young Gon incident especially). Like it says when he gets a haircut, "Eun Taek was cool."

Joo Yeon: She's such a perfect bitch. I hate her so much, but she really adds to the story. All of her ill-timed situations with Sul needed to be there (despite how much I wanted to kill her).

Sang Chul: He fucking pisses me off. Ugh. But I guess he's adding to the story, too. He makes the Ah Young situation worse and that makes her want to meet Yoo Jung even more. I guess every story needs an idiot like him (since he's appeared a lot more than I thought he should).

If I continue, this review will be a whole page and I doubt anyone would read it (or even read all of this). So, despite how much I want to talk about Sul's neighbor Joo Yong, Assistant Professor Huh, annoying Ah Young, (somewhat) understandable Jae Woo, copycat Min Soo, and (how much I liked the character/creepiness of) Young Gon, I won't.

Just one last thing, could someone PM me and explain who the fuck Mona is? And what their gender is? And why their parents decided to be corny and name the other kid Lisa? (JK on the last part...)

Not in the comic of course, I think it is a fantastic piece of work. I'm disappointed that the translators have decided to ignore the creator's plea to NOT translate it. The same groups that grow upset their "work" is displayed on manga reader sites.

TL;DR: feel free to read the series since it's a magnificent one, but don't give the translator groups any support because of their hypocrisy.

Anyways, Cheese in the Trap is really one of the best josei series, actually romance series, I've read up till now. As previous reviewers have said, CITT is not a light read. It's not a melodramatic piece, but at the same time the way Soon Ki portrays her characters, you start second guessing everyone's intentions. You need to be able to read between the lines as the most important stuff isn't said, but is portrayed in the character's expressions. Most of the time I'll sit and stare at Sul's, In Ho's, or Jung's expressions for more than a couple seconds to decipher what they're thinking.

The thing I love most about CITT is Sul, the main female character. She isn't your weak, blushing, average josei/shoujo heroine who immediately falls in love with the dark, brooding male lead nor is she thick-headed. She's independent and incredibly intelligent. I love how she's always thinking and observing, rather than randomly assuming things or being completely naive about the world.

Also, each of the characters have their own role to play. Sure it takes a while for some of it to make sense to the reader since Soon Ki relies on flashbacks that aren't always told chronologically to fill in the readers on the psychological back story of everyone, but it always ties up.

But be forewarned: the romance is slow! Also, addressing some of the other reviews, the 3rd main character (In Ho) takes a little while to appear, but in the more recent chapters he's been getting a lot of....er...page time (?) so his character has been developing well.

As a note to the above comment about the translations : I think I read that Soonki asked scanlators to stop scanlating since many of her page views were getting redirected to sites such as Mangafox and Webtoonlive, and webtoon authors get paid by page views (last time I heard this was the policy). However, the plug in thing that Oddsquad is doing now is great for people who don't understand korean AND it gets Soonki the pages views she needs. Also, for the translations that webtoonlive still does on the forums, the readers still do visit the actual comic, b/c it's not fun if you can't see the actual art. So it should be fine.

Cheese is complicated. It definitely not a light read. Many would find it too slow since they most likely expect a sweet and light romantic drama, with the focus being on Sul. Jung and In Ho. But no, this story is better than that.

If you are looking for a story that makes you think a little bit, and pay a little bit more attention Cheese is for you. Every named character in this manhwa is important, if you write them and their involvement as fillers you will miss out on a big chunk of the good stuff. They end up playing a bigger role than you think. Also I noticed that people who failed to grasp the difference between the flashbacks and the present tend to get lost really fast...

That being said, Cheese is a great series. Mature, and lacking all the cliches k-dramas and shoujo series have. Most stories have the heroine swooning over the tall, dark and supposedly evil character who will later reveal his sudden attitude change to be due to love for our heroine. But cheese is different. It keeps making you wonder whether the guy is some evil mastermind or really just innocently in love with the main character every other chapter! I really have to hand it to the author, she planned this story out well. This blog gives you a nice preview of what the manga really has to offer check it out~

There were good ideas in this manwha. The main character is an interesting girl, though not very original. The central point is the complete change of behavior of the male lead, and that could have made a great story. Unfortunately, the author seems to lack inspiration and resort on filler chapters with no long-term plan. The 10 first chapters apart, there are more flashbacks than present time panels, and these stories of the past are sometimes contradicting a bit. It makes the story incredibly slow, and IMHO, annoying. For instance, a new character was introduced 6 or 7 chapters ago, and the author claimed it was to be a third main character: as of chapter 32, he only had two very minors scenes.

The art is quite poor (proportion mistakes, no backgrounds, wrong perspectives) but easy to follow. Some panels are really badly drawn, but overall I wasn't put off by the drawings.

I'm dropping this and I wouldn't recommend anyone to even try it: it's a trap, with only a good start and no cheese.

But this web comic was interesting. I'm glad I finally found one that didn't make my eyes bleed and think, "wow, THAT was a waste of my mortality!"

It leaves you wondering what is the deal with the Sunbae, even though you can tell something's up, is he really 'evil' underneath, or is he careless? I don't know, and that's part of what drives me. I also like the main character. Her immediate response and observation of the Sunbae was fun and interesting. Because it's through her observation (for the most part), it's hard to not have big suspicions, but that's what makes it interesting. I'm glad I decided to give it a try.

I really love the comic, i was wondering if there was any way to contact the author?? I want to let him know how much of a big fan i am and encourage him... sigh his site is all in korean and impossible to find a contact mail or anything...

Ive never really read a webcomic before and i heard this one was good so i tryed it. I love Sul! She is so strong personality wise and spunky! The art is beautiful and i love the story line. Yoo Jung is very mysterious. i want to know more about him and what his deal is. I would reccomend everyone to read this.

It's well written but it moves too slowly for me but apparently I'm in a minority in that. I find the main female's lack of willingness to be straight forward with people in general irritating, too. For instance, why can't she just tell a guy, "I'm sorry but I can't give her phone number to you. It's not my phone number to be giving out so you're gonna have to get it on your own. If you really like her then make her like you enough to want to give it to you. End of discussion." I don't understand people/characters who are interested in a 'peaceful life'. There's no such thing to be attained. There is no such thing as a life without confrontation. Trying to avoid confrontations, which are an inevitable part of life, only assures a bigger one in the end and will only serve to make your life stressful every single day.
