AGREE THAT IT PROMOTES RAPE CULTURE
ITS just that the way Shinjo has tried to justify it, we have to give her credit.
the art and the whole tension! even those who callthis manga BS cant help but read it till the end!

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the reason i didnt finish it till the end is because the hero dies which ahhhh i cant take inspite of everything he did

Just what is this?

And I thought I've seen some really bad manga. This is possibly one of the top 5 worst mangas I've ever had the displeasure of reading. Not only does it have zero plot and character development, but it also promotes rape culture and destructive relationships. Getting through 1 chapter is like swimming in mud mixed with s**t.

I actually am very amazed I made it through to the end. But even the ending was freaking BS.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
If people are going to die in the end, shouldn't there be buildup to that? It all felt like a very manipulative 'sad' ending. So, Hakuron dies for the sake of what? Why wasn't anyone thinking straight in those moments? Call the ambulance? I don't know, anything besides letting the guy die???
Nothing made sense in this manga.

well...that ending...

I'll be honest...I like seeing a tough guy getting softer but keeping his dominance. It's a type of character I like in manga's...sue me. But this manga had some really interesting features - that rape part...ok, I did not understand that and yeah it was a bit....unusual. It's probably more close to reality actually because thinking you can change one guy's mind set when he had such unhealthy environment is probably wrong. But that's reality and this is shoujo/smut manga. So why in the god's name he rape's her and how can she even become addicted to his body? Stockholm syndrome or something? Let's say that was the point...but even if that was the point, they could have developed differently their relationship in the first place and after all that raping...why did he have to die on their wedding day? Come on...that was just depressing. I hated the ending. Overall, I like the idea and manga is not all so bad even if they decided to mix too many unrealistic things (like her suddenly flying to Hong Kong and she helping him that easily, in reality he would rape her and then kill her right there probably) and realistic things (like inability to change his way of thinking and the he is living, killing etc.)...they got lost there a bit...ending like that really has no place in a manga where you are turning a hard core mafia boss into a lover boy...that ending was a tragedy...I really didn't like it.
I give manga 8 because until that ending came along, the things were tolerable...

The only reason I kept reading was because the lack of a coherent plot line was hilarious. If you enjoy laughing at things that are really terrible, this is it. Also half the time Hakuron's skeletal/body structure looked like cool guy (look it up on youtube). As much entertainment it gave me though, it really was awful.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The way they kept dodging eachother's feelings was actually painful to read.

It might be crap... but it sure kept me hooked.

And Hakuron is hot. Yes, he's a filthy piece of ****, but you and I both know that no one reads Shinjo Mayu's stories for the character development. Perhaps it perpetuates rape culture, but the thing is: this manga works. No matter how much you want to stab a knife into Kurumi three hundred times. Or kill Hakuron.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Though the author helps us with that. It would have been better if she killed Kurumi too... reunited in death, y'know.

Other characters are no better. Reiran was a mess, Kaafai was an annoying f, and no one in this story seems to be functional. I didn't understand the function of the "team 5" either. Nothing in this manga made sense. It was just a lot of Hong Kong, some mafia, killing, and random rapes, rape, and more rape. Painful.

Read for the art, not the story.

Some parts are just confusing

I only rate this an 8/10 because of my imagination of pure romance in the beginning. But then in the middle, the guy just suddenly rapes the girl, and that continues for a LO-O-ONG time. Personally, I would have preferred if the mangaka would have just resolved that molesting part and went back to just kissing and dates like in the beginning.

I've got shivers down my spine too but for completely different reasons.

I love how Shinjo Mayu justified rapes and murder. But it's all fine if we do it out of love, right?
I also love how strong independent and smart female lead was and how Hakuron (male lead) was caring and respectable towards Kurumi, well he did love her so he must be all that, right?

And their relationship was an epitome of harmonious and healthy. Right? bigrazz

I get shivers all down my spine reading this manga. Just the right amount of Smut and passion. She's very slutty though I must say. Besides that it's crazy, intense, exciting. A very good read. Artistry is lovely as well.

some random guy kisses her on her way home to get out of trouble. She instantly falls for him and he steals her away. Literally. He ends up being one of the biggest gangsters of china. They go through many trials from other gangs and she is always out in harm. He also doesn't know how to control his feelings. So he takes her forcefully all the time. It's really a mentally strained type of story. You really feel for them both. Beautiful but very sad ending.

At first, I thought I wouldn't like Haou Airen. Before I even started reading, I knew it was going to be smut heavy. I'm used to romance that's more tender, fluffly, heart-warming and cute. But I'm so glad I gave Haou Airen another chance. I mean the plot and character development are really great. I think the author wanted to create a character (Hakuron) that readers will really hate at first, but warm up to later on in the series. If you look back at Hakuron's past, it's easy to understand why he was so cold and brutal. I mean, hisown father killed his mother and tried to kill him as well. Then he was adopted and brought up in a violent environment. Even so, he still has a heart and sincerely loves Kurumi despite all his shortcomings.

This manga is pretty good (if u dont mind the molesting part). I spent 1 day (23 hrs) reading this manga and I love it but I hate it hence the rating... I love the beginning on how they met, then the middle (minus the mol3sting parts), nd I hate the end... I mean I didnt spend a whole fucking day to read it and then BAM!!! He is obsessive (like really obsessive) but has some good trait. She is kind of an idiot (in my opinion) but kinda brave.. over all if u could get over the molesting part (the one tyat everyone is giving a one on), it's a pretty good read. .
