This manga is truly beautiful. It depicts the bittersweet long-distance relationship of two lovers. The story is well-paced, it doesn't seem slow but embodies the aching situation of being away, light-years away from your loved one.
The art is beautiful too, and has a somewhat sentimental feel to it. I agree with a previous comment though, the action scenes could be done better. I had a hard time pinpointing which is which (Taser or Tarsian). But then again this manga is not about battles fought with aliens. It's about love between two people that transcends time and space.
All in all, this is one of the best mangas I've read in a long time. A definite must-read!!

Well, Sahara Mizu has that great way of drawing emotions.. I mean, her work evokes them in some way while others would depend on the progression of the story to build up the intended emotion.
Shinkai Makoto has done well also on granting long distance relationships a new meaning, having the characters be distant not only by space but also by time.. very interesting..
The manga was more encouraging as it nears to settle something promising compared to the anime which makes viewers hope on a better conclusion for these lovers.
Want your mind to make you feel your heart beat? This isn't a bad choice to make that happen.

;A; It was sad and so moving. The art is beautiful, and the story even more so. It's short and sweet (well....bittersweet?), and I love that because it doesn't drag out forever like some other tragic mangas (coughprincesscough) Compact sob story <3
i agree its beautiful

This manga is awesome, it shows us what love is in such a way that all those thousands of useless shoujos could never show. It allows us those of us who have not fallen in love to understand what love could be. It is sadness, happiness and as shown by the end hope. The art seemed like it was just made for this manga, so awesome. Honestly everyone should read this.

I adore Sahara Mizu's works, so when I found out that she'd done a manga adaption of one of Makoto Shinkai's films, I was ecstatic to read it. And as always, I wasn't disappointed with what she'd laid out.
There's something about the simplicity of her art that I find lovely, which helped the manga work. I love how she presents the characters emotions in a silent manner. Their words, thoughts, everything is conveyed rather nicely despite the lack of interaction between the main leads.
I wouldn't call it the best romance story I've ever read/watched, but it is good, and heart-breaking at that with a somewhat sweet after taste that leaves you barely satisfied.
All-in-all, if you're a romance junkie, then this one volume manga is definitely for you.

I actually just bought the manga today, published by Tokyopop. Read it in one sitting. The story is beautiful, and the art is beautiful.
I cried so much at the end. And everytime Noboru kept on saying that nothing in his life matters since Mikako was gone, it just brought me to tears.
I'm glad I bought it today. It's amazing.
Highly Recommended.

"Beautiful." That was my first thought after reading this. The art was really pretty, the plot was wonderfully written, and the ending was well-crafted. It left a bitter-sweet ache. I like it so much, I'm actually leaving a comment.
The characters have their internal (and external) conflicts and the story is true to life. It all feels very plausible and manages to evoke pathos. After reading a zillion shoujo comics, this had a refreshing pureness that I think true love should have.
My only complaint would be that the battle scenes were very confusing, but those weren't really all that important.

One of the first animes I came contact with (my dad always watched it when I was little and I always remember glimpses from memory). It took me 10 years since my first encounter with this to actually wathc the whole of it. One of the mecha stories that I managed to go through and actually cry at the end. The music and everythign was just soo...anyway, the manga's ending was a bit different and showed less tragedy than the anime, and gave the reader more hope than the watchers.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the manga ends suggesting that Noboru is going to save Mikako(stuck somewhere in space) while the anime made it seem that Mikako has died entirely. Personally, I liked the anime's ending better because the manga's loong story was cramped into a short one shot and even the ending was not that good.

One of not many manga I gave a 10. The artwork is beautiful. The story is so tragic and bittersweet. It has such a quiet and lonley feel to it. I highly reccomend it to anybody who wants somthing sad, differant and short.
