This manga fails to live the hype and even if it wasn't that hyped I still wouldn't like it just as much. The characters weren't that likeable the final battle was poorly written with one of the worst explanation in writing history. The character have plot armour due to a young girl with prediction powers and yet according to the author she uses for people she knows yet for some people she didn't knew that well she knew a citizen death. It's filled with so much plot convenience you can't help groan in irritation. The positive though the side characters were interesting like serena, Juliet and tamagawa senji, although their character didn't felt complete they had some development that was quite good.
Also I argue the crossover with aegis and jesus was nothing more than a gimmick a ratings trap to get more readers to let the series last longer. The author didn't even create aegis and jesus he was just using someone elses characters with permission of course.
Then there Haruka Tōyama, a character that is young so she has the right to be terrified of the situation, but the author emphasise so much times we get the message, she has such a forced romance story, that it felt unrealistic. Honestly Anna been through worst than Haruka yet she remains much more likable why couldn't the author do someone like her, People wouldn't want to see a character whine and worry about their friends ALL THE TIME, it's repetitive and it will lose that emotion of sympathy we are suppose to feel, since it's been repeated excessively.
Their are much better manga out there such as battle angel alita, Berserk read those instead.

Here’s the truth:
UDDUP had an awesome start. I mean, blind dude using a katana and having an amazing skill set? I don’t know about you, but that got me hooked right away.
Side characters were also pretty thought out, with interesting stories and personalities to back them up. To be able to implement side characters as interesting as the main ones is a feat that should not be ignored. A job well done from the author.
So where do my issues with UDDUP start? Around chapter 113 until let’s say….150, you know, the whole Jesus and Aegis part. Although I liked both Aegis and Jesus, I couldn’t help but think that the stories concerning these characters was a filler. I deeply hate fillers with all the passion I can muster when it comes to freaking manga. Fillers are just empty shit stuck on a piece of drawing board, they don’t contribute/progress the original story and are mainly used to milk more time. That’s exactly what I felt when reading that arc, the author milking more time and trying to convince UDDUP readers to read the manga concerning the characters mentioned above. By other words, cheap promo.
No, my issue wasn’t me being unable to understand the background of Jesus/Aegis. Some parts of their background where explained in a sufficient way that made me at least get a pretty clear picture of what has happened. My issue was solely that they just popped up out of nowhere and not contributing to the story. Nothing else.
Another issue:
Luckily, UDDUP started to become great again after the J/A arc. Story made more sense, character growth (not only Mamoru, but the others too) started taking place and the author manages to make you more interested in the world of Hijikata Mamoru.
Overall, a great manga with some flaws.I'm giving it a 9 because of the beginning and other strong elements, however, I would rather say it's an 8,5 in execution.

Why THE HELL did officer Genda die? He was a very strong character with A LOT of promise. Dying like that out of nowhere was just pure wtf????? Incredibly disappointed.

I love both Haruka and Mamoru and hope to see their development. Can not wait for them to get together... they are so cute >.>
I love the character development and how Haruka comes to handle herself, comparing the Haruka now and the Haruka from the first chapter... the difference is huge. She has become somewhat of a tactician and an awesome one at that,. I hope she continues to develop and Mamoru along with her. Mamoru seems a lot more human than in the past and I think it's because of Haruka.. gosh I just love the pair...
Anyways, give this manga a try!

There are a lot of reader who don't like recent plot. I enjoyed it though.

But I think the reason why there're so many new character introduction was because at the later chapter, they will dealing/againts the bigger and strongest enemy. So it's basically recruiting new character in to their base as their ally. That is why the story seems mess after vol. 10 or/and afterwards

It started out unique (well as much as blind swordsmen could be) but slowly over the years it's become a shaggy dog story. It's a shame since it has nice art and somewhat varied cast of characters but it's plot is just completely nonsensical.
FWIW: I read from the beginning to until chapters 100+ so I've been with it for awhile. The battles remind me of DBZ as it's almost never the final boss form and we've had chapters of endless fights for w/e reasons for entire volumes.

The premise is incredibly simple but alluring. It's semi-realistic enough for you to believe its logic. Early on, even with little development, the side characters has enough depth and purpose to pull you in. Every character act according to how they were introduced or developed. However, after volume 10, everything starts to go haywire. Characters don't really act the way they were developed. Shallow side characters/villains are constantly introduced with the purpose of just providing shounen battles. Even worst, the MC goes from a purpose of fighting crime to a shallow character that's hell bent on "battle mania." It gets boring fast when all there is continous battle with little story.
Next, the pacifist ideal thing made sense in the beginning, where he has to subdue criminals instead of killing them. However, when that premise develops into "100 assassins always aiming to kill you," that ideal becomes illogical. It's perfectly legal/logical to kill someone in self-defense, especially against 100 assassins. However, the police and even MILITARY personnels are hell bent on "you're a MURDERER" even if you defend yourself. Come the fuck on. Really.
Incredibly disappointing but because I really liked the first 10 volumes, I'll give it a 9/10. However, after volume 10, it turned into a battle-fest mess --> I would say it went down to 6/10.

I'm not sure why many gave bad rating from Chapter 120 onwards.. Yes, there's alot of technical terms, new people from other manga (Jesus and Shield of Aegis - I didn't read any of them). But the whole story still progress in a great way.
The manga is overall really good and addictive. Every character has their own storyline, even the tiny ones.
Remember to read editor/translator/scanlator (not sure who wrote them) comment at the end of every early chapters. They're simply not to be missed!

I absolutely love this manga. It doesn't have the "wow" effect, and yes it does have cliches, but the way they were put together, for me is just great. The characters are really well developed and have a lot to offer more, so I will enjoy to see how they turn out in the end.
The art is just awesome. It was probably the first thing that drew me into the manga. Very well drawn and with exactly the right amount of detail needed.
I would recommend this manga, for anyone who would enjoy a sword swinging maniac and a cute little girl.
Great manga, Great art. Masterpiece!

This series started out amazing, and by chapter 120, I sort of got bored because it was being released so slow and the plot didn't seem to get anywhere... until chapter 136!!! Then it's bam! All the epicness falls like a storm! I just finished chapter 147, and I must say I fell in love with this series all over again. This isn't something you can read one chapter at a time, continuity is important, reading 131~147 in one go just reminded me of everything I love about this manga! The art has amazing details, and the actions are extremely well drawn. Highly recommend.
