First I saw the anime. I cried in the end.
And now I finally saw the end of the manga, and I´m still crying. It´s so intense, so beautiful. The mangaka birthday is the same at me, so I can see we have something in common.
the story is simple, beautiful....lovley.....sweet, cute. The characters so kind, so perfect.....a manga that can touch all the hearts and make you cry.
I love it. I enjoy it.
Thanks for the work
Takaya sensei and all the work of the scanlator groups

since i only started reading manga recently, i have finished the anime before reading the manga. i thought that the anime was good. but it ended too suddenly, from tohru knowing kyo's true form to meeting akito. the manga is great, though i wouldn't say it ended in a rush, but i hope chapter 136 comes out soon!!! i can't wait to see the last chapter!!!!! hehe!!

i admit, the manga did drag in some parts, and the ending was really rushed but overall it was very good. i was compelled to keep reading from the beginning of the book with its humor, and later i found out that there was more to it then what the title suggests. the manga provides everything a reader wants. love, humor, and some dark moments. i particularly liked flashback of tohrus mother and her history (that got me crying-the first manga that i ever cried too!) honestly, you have to give it a go even if the beginning is sorta iffy. if you have the patience, i highly suggest you read the book and if your a guy, eh you might not enjoy it as much because theres a lot of romance in it. excuse this, but the anime really sucked. maybe its because i read the manga first and then i watched the anime, cause the anime had so many parts that were changed, that were important to the plot of the manga. i suggest you watch the anime first if youre intending to watch it at all.

it's such a cute and wonderful story~ the characters are so funny and tohru is awesome~ i admit, the story is dark and serious at parts, but that just adds to the whole thing! something you can pick up and read over and over~

What Furuba is about

Some people have the wrong impression about what Fruits Basket is about. I don't blame them for judging this series poorly, in fact, I can't be bothered to even criticise their decision. Too much of a hassle.

What I will do is explain what Fruits Basket is about. Fruits Basket isn't so much about the Sohma family curse as it is about Tohru being a ditz. Rather, the story is entirely about the willingness to love and treasure others despite the differences between you and said others. The difference between Karekano and Furuba is exactly that. Karekano treasures the individuality of each person and encourages people to be honest with themselves and their loved ones. Furuba encourages tolerance and acceptance for things that are different. Hence the bitter stories regarding every member of the Sohma family and how they were persecuted/bullied/treated.

Tohru's importance is not to be understated. She herself has undergone a lot of bullying and bitterness yet she strives to smile and do her best regardless. The reason why the series is called Fruits Basket highlights our own cultural prejudices against others. Japan has a children's game called Fruits Basket much like western cultures have this "Goose/Duck" game. Children of a certain "fruit" name are called out to play. Tohru herself was discriminated against when she was called "Onigiri", Japanese for rice ball. Rice balls are not fruits, therefore Tohru would never be called out to play with the other children.

It is this call against prejudice, against discrimination, against intolerance that drives the story forward.

The ending seemed rather rushed, but nevertheless a very enjoyable series. Need to finish it off though! Are the last 2 chapters still missing? How is this even possible!

I have read up to chapter 135 and am impatiently waiting for chapter 136. This is definitely different from the anime, where it came off as being a cute romantic comedy. The manga, of course being different from the manga, comes off as being a dark story that had me hooked from the beginning. I have enjoyed reading this manga, mostly from the way the characters have changed from the beginning to the end. Having them grow up and change physically and emotionally really does show the passing of time that is usually hard to portray except through dialogue and the changing of the seasons. The way the manga seemed to connect to the problems that some, not all, people the characters ages have to go through was really on the mark. I am looking forward to seeing how this will all end.

this was just so freaking good!! at first i only watched the anime and i thought it was good but the manga goes so much further. It was soooooooooo good!! i was like wow. hehe but seriously i mean sure it pretty light hearted and kinda boring at first but when you get passed about volume i dunno 10 or 11! WHOLE THING its crazy and you really get into it. I really like this manga. I would be lying if i said that i never cried while reading it. And i love how the story talks about everyone and not just focuses on the main charicter and there problems. I have to say this is one heck of a manga i i really liked it. People should really read it, well and they do. hehehe yup yup smile

definitely one of the top manga for character development.
the main character might seem just a simple cute air-head at the beginning but as her past is introduced, you can see that she's quite a character.

a good read recommendation for anyone.
