Pretty good for the genre

I don't know why people get so stressed about dub-con in yaoi mangas....It's like the biggest cliche, and if you read enough of the genre, you'll see that there is at least a scene of many. I was able to get past it years ago, so my mind sort of skips through it, automatically now.
Besides with characters like Akiyoshi, who have so many complexes, and can't even admit to his feelings....i don't feel one bit sorry for him.

In any event, this manga is worth the read for the humor. I wouldn't call it romantic at all, because although there is a twisted relationship, the feelings are interpreted through actions rather than baring it all.

Overrated and underrated here Imo

It started with positive points because it surprised me. I'd never expect Naruse to be the seme! I though he was those kinds of seductive ukes, but that's all. Now that I think about it, though, I can't see Akiyoshi as the seme, hehe...he's just so uptight!

Anyways, there’s this whole rape controversy. I, for one, am guilty about the matter, because I'm a big fan of dub-con, so I like it just they way it is...It's kinda sexier when the uke's reluctant, rather then when he's like "do it more". So, for me, it's not a you-raped-me-so-I-love-you kinda manga. Akiyoshi didn't fall for Naruse right away. At first, he didn't give Naruse full consent, but yes, he could've fought it if he wanted, he just didn't. It’s not rape, it’s just dubious, because, as he said himself, he “felt it”. It's possible that someone would feel pleasure even denying it, especially because Naruse prepared him and made sure he was enjoying it.

Well, the characters themselves aren’t very complex, but they serve their purpose.
Naruse is just a deceiver on the highest level of it all! He really entertained me, down to his appearance to his personality! And even the fact that he gets things quickly, he's not slow at all. Oh, and his appearance? I hate when the seme's more feminine than the uke, but after chapter 04, Naruse turned out to be just PERFECT! The kind of dreamy seme I love.

What really makes me love Madarame-sensei is how well drawn the sex scenes are. It’s not like they’re just beautiful, but the expressions on the characters’ faces are so full of pleasure, it’s amazing! And… God.Damn.It. That was the sexiest masturbation scene EVER!
Even the details, such as Naruse kissing that host - I was sooo shocked! But it was good, you know? I like when the seme makes the uke feels conscious about his feelings.

Then, towards the ending, the problems started. The plot never changed nor developed, it just stared the same.
But I have more complaints:
- They were taken as a couple (Naruse even announced it) before Akiyoshi acknowledged his feelings - actually, that part was never even revealed, like there was no need for him to feel anything, or at least to tell his partner.
- The ending itself felt unfulfilling. After all they've gone through, I thought they would have to suffer a little before they could be together as a couple, but it didn't happen. They just got there, as if all the hate from before meant nothing. I was a little disappointed, frankly. And how could it freaking end with a joke, after all Akiyoshi’s thinking, such deep things about his love?! Isn't he gonna confess?! He says "what are you laughing about? This should be touching scene", and that’s exactly how I felt. That scene pissed the hell out of me...or I guess I just hate comedy.

In my opinion, whoever wants to read this has to be careful with other’s reviews. I think people exaggerate. The “1”s here are out of line – it didn’t suck, I’ve seen way worse. But the “10”s aren’t honest either, because there were issues in this manga that were completely abandoned by the author, which didn’t quite do it for me because I expect some degree of seriousness. So it was enjoyable okay to read, but not sightlessly remarkable. I can sum “Kawaii Akuma” up with: read it, you won't regret it, but don’t expect wanting to re-read it in the future - which is also why I don't understand how it's so popular in the yaoi fandom...

It's not a drama, but the story is good! I had read mangaka's "Scarlet", and then I had felt a need in reading some more). If you liked Scarlet, then you surely will like this manga.
Imho it's more realistic than any other yaoi manga, but at the same time it's not boring. I joyfully grinned all the time ^-^

i love the art (well, i love the "serious" art, not the SD). it's really distinctive, and flowing; and the colour art is to die for; i'd hang that on my wall.

but the storyline. oi. i liked the way it started; the sudden reversal -- that was very funny, and a nice twist. i can ignore the raping, since it's BL (though i am never pleased by it, and it doesn't turn my crank). but the story didn't go anywhere. it became just a vehicle to repeat the same funny bits over and over, and i stopped finding them funny all too soon. there was no character development and i didn't like the characters. why does naruse have such a thing for akiyoshi -- he's a stuck-up prick to naruse to start out with, he's not very insightful, conceited to boot, and the justification of an initial attraction (he thinks he's not manly) is forgotten quickly. naturally akiyoshi ends up falling for naruse too -- why exactly? because he gets his grandma's charm back? really? that makes up for all the abuse? so ok, i can't take the story seriously or i'll just rip it to shreds.

but if i look at it as pure crack, then it falls way short by being so repetitive, and by making me think that the serious parts should be taken at face value (the non-SD art really pushes it in that direction). now, i am not particularly good with crack anyway, but this example isn't it for me. crack i like is frex yamato nase's chintsubu; that is crack without the seriously disturbing scenes. i am now wondering whether i misread scarlet a an indictment of obsessive relationships, and whether the people panning it were not right; maybe madarame doesn't have the sensitivity to actually write about obsessive relationships in a meaningful way. because this is clearly another obsessive relationship, and it's just used to deliver crack.

i'm rating it above average only because i think madarame at least tries to go somewhere differently, and because i adore the art.

Funny, but lacking

It's funny and doesn't follow stereotypes, but you never get the feeling these two like each other much let alone love each other. There isn't much emotion in the story to begin with. There needed to be a connection between the two, but I just never felt it. Even in the sequel there isn't much in the way of growth in their relationship. The stayed the same throughout. Nothing changes. You never get the feeling the unwilling uke is ever more willing or why the seme even likes the uke. It's really quite unromantic for a BL manga. It's also not quite smutty enough or full of crack enough to justify the lack of "love" there is. I'm not sure what to think about it honestly.

I also find the pages themselves so cluttered with text it hurts my head to read. There is so much going on and characters that show up randomly and leave and some things just don't make a lot of sense. I did enjoy the manga, but it's not something I'd read more than once. The art also takes some getting used to.

I have read a lot of yaoi and there's a lot of yaoi types and variety out there but this would be my first time to review a yaoi manga, so bear with me.

One of the reason's I decided to do this because I see some negative reviews here and I was pretty amused with them. Plots and character developments are good. But others seem to fail to recognize that this story is actually mostly crack. *___* And yes, I've always have one reaction to this kind of stories and that is *All hail crack!" *snicker* *snort* *snicker*
For people who would be planning to read this, never take this story seriously and feel free to make fun of the characters.
The art, well I've always been a fan of unique art and I find it really pretty. *______*

Yes, I know, I suck at reviewing since I can't describe much what I feel about this manga except that I find the story hilarious and the art pretty. It's definitely a good read!

Madarame Hiro-sensei as I noticed seemed to be fond of unusual characters and pairings so yeah. I can say I'm now officially a fan of this manga-ka! biggrin

This manga makes me want to break into nervous laughter...

I like the art, the sketchiness was a nice break from the normal cleaner styles but I found the whole relationship uncomfortable. I was like "he's raping the dude? and the dude seriously hates it not just sort of is embarrassed like usual? and he's totally trapped? and this is supposed to somehow be funny?" It was just too heavy for the comedy it was trying to be. I felt strangely dirty in a squicky unfun sort of way after reading it.

And it's not even that smutty! (Although, granted the kissing was hot) I mean, come on! If the story is gonna suck with it's so-dubious-it's-ridiculous-con, at least give me some smut. I'm just so confused about what this manga is actually supposed to be! GAHHHH. The main character Akiyoshi, sucked, was oblivious, and annoying. And Fuuya was just a possessive ass with no redeeming qualities.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Although, he did get totally hot all of a sudden. That was actually one of the funniest parts I thought; him trying to act all cutesy while now being a huge man beast. HAH! Whatever, you were never cute, just a spoiled little twee brat.

...but the mangaka didn't properly make use of this perfectly promising plot device. I couldn't help but feel disappointed at the lack of character development in this manga. It felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again throughout the entire six chapters. It had nice art though, I'll give it that. Too bad that the visual appeal was its only redeeming point. sad
