Started a generation

In my opinion I believe that Love Hina truly started the era of Slice of Life and Becoming of Age manga. However, like many good manga, it started getting too ridiculous and it took a very long time for Akamatsu Ken to bring it back on track (if he ever did). Had 100 chapters been cut, it truly would have been a masterpiece.

TuaRal more or less nailed it with his review a couple pages back. The beginning of this manga was (although kinda annoying) pretty good. The story was compact, it flowed well, it was interesting, and the characters occasionally did things you totally wouldn't see coming.

And then... somewhere around chapter 60... everything went crazy. People started doing the most random things, arcs come out of nowhere just for the sake of being there, no one ever seems to sit down and talk anymore, and the weirdest stuff happens in the name of comedy. And it's not funny. It's just strange. And kind of random.

Plus some of the characters are completely annoying - at least in the beginning. Kanoko, Kei's sister, completely grated on me for the longest time. So did Otohime, for that matter.

It's kinda cool that it's such an old manga, but I wouldn't label it a 'classic' by any stretch of the imagination. It was awesome in that it was a huge coming-of-age story for Keitaro, the little wuss, but it also felt like any emotional depth he gained, Naru lost... so it ends up about the same in the end. I forgive it though, just because they had moments of really intense cuteness. D'awww.

Was fun for a couple of moments, but got repetitive and boring so very very fast. Always the same emotions, clichés, stupid plot development, super-long-stretched out relationship development... Can't say I recommend this one. This < Ai Kora < Ichigo 100%

This series might have held up well at its time, but now it felt very repetetive, i think i went through the same scenario at least twice. Though when it did something new it was fun, it sadly suffers in the end though, as it kinda was one of the first ones out there doing this kind of story. Its a classic but i dont think its great its just ok.

Now that I think about it...

I read this about 2 and half years ago, and I gave it a 10, but now that I think about it... About 90% of the manga was a 10, the rest was either Ken Akamatsu not knowing how end his series or he had some sort of stupid meaning behind it.
(There is no need for a Spoiler Alert but If you haven't read this and you don't Like Spoiler's don't read this although skip to the last Paragraph)

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The ending is what you'd expect Keitaru and ____ are ____ and they are very ____. Although that doesn't seem like such a big deal, It's as the Anime calls it "Love Hina Again" a shoujo manga basically towards the last 10% of the manga or so. So it's ___ trying to go after ___. The most frustrating thing is that the second of the aforementioned ____ has completely changed from the beginning of the Manga, and it's very depressing and misleading to those who read the manga and enjoyed it, only to find that the first 90% was pure BS and unnecessary. I give it a 10 - 1 for the Horrible 10% and that equals 9.

All in all if you want a GREAT read, read this, just if you want skip the last 20-30 chapters or so (Don't remember really) and Imagine the way you would like it to end because to me it was lacking. Anyway enjoy and Have a great day, 9!

This is such a sweet and wonderfull manga. About love and forfilling your dreams.
It really pictures the hardship of love. The rivality between friends, when they love the same person.
And of course the akwardness and embarrasment about finding out what It really means to love and epose feelings to each others.
Together with a lot off comedy and different occurrents the story progress on and never gets boring. The characters is also good and easy to understand. You get to know them fast and can see how they develop as the story progress.

Well, it may be a little to much fan service somtimes and the main character is kind of a cliche (a guy without any significant abilities and poor looks but with a strong bealive in his dreams and somhow gets a lot of girls). But the author makes It up by delivering so much more and making this manga very realistic and entertaining.

excellent manga

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
very disappointed that keitarou chose to go to america, and his sister seriously annoyed me

but other than that a very good manga, nice characters design and development. all the characters are lovable. quite a lot of fanservice toward the end. a very sweet and cute manga

i agree with some people that it could be better, some of the events were really unnecessary and frustrating, but because of my like toward the characters alone, i'd give it a 10.
considering that it was written in 1998, it's brilliant. very modern and relatable.

try it, won't be dissapointed

An extremely good Manga, this was my second time reading through, first time since I knew about Baka-Updates. Its storyline is very good though at times you will notice its a bit drawn out and they could have laid of the ecchi a bit... and by a bit I mean not an ecchi scene every chapter, sometimes multiple times a chapter... its gets tiring. Over all though definately give it a read if you like the Romance / Harem genre. Personally I find the Harem genre annoying as in my opinion it has never been done right from my current knowledge (I would prefer it if they made it so the male lead could at any stage go any number of ways rather then just with the character you guess he is going to go with from chapter one). This is not that much of a Harem as the main character never even partially develops romantic feelings for anyone other then the female lead.
