ah yes, deathnote, one of the mangas that has really become one of my favorite mangas. i love the whole Raito vs. L. I wanted Raito to win, but L is on the "good" side so it was so hard deciding. too bad the manga decided for me. ;)
Interesting

I don't get why some people don't like Light. Okay I do if you're the sort of person who arbitrarily hates all villain characters just because they're bad guys. However I found this character very interesting, far more so than everyone else. During that brief period when he is not under the influence of the Death Note, Light reverts back to being a truly good person that wants to do good and help L catch Kira. It some ways, it is rather tragic when the Death Note returns to him. I really did hope that it wouldn't.
On the other hand, L really isn't a good person. He hides in his hotel room, only allowing people he is sure are not Kira to see him then only let's Light see him when he is sure that Light cannot kill him just by looking at him. He likewise only goes out when he knows he isn't in any real danger, while the same cannot be said for everyone else he works with as they all remain in danger. If not from Light, from the other Kiras that show up. His two successors really are not any better when you consider their actions.

I think i first started reading this in 2005, when i was in grade 6 [maybe i started in grade 5]. I stopped reading at one point because the company arc was getting tiring for me. in Grade 7 my friend told me that literally a few pages after i stopped, the arc ends. So, stick with it all the way lads/lasses.
I'm not sure what to put in this review, as i was 12/13 when i read this so i'm not sure if i would have felt the same if i had read it at my current age. But when i did read it, it was undoubtedly my favourite of all the anime/manga i had seen/read at the time [this is including FMA-the first series adaptation].

Not being a fan of shounen, my brother gradually persuaded me to watch the anime (after telling him time n time again its not my thing, but he is never one to listen to anything i say) liked it that much I just had to get a hold of his manga version of it too, Really enjoyed this series and all the twists it had to offer, As a female I highly reccomened this to just about anyone who's into a good read!!

Death Note really kept me on edge. It was great to try and figure out all of the things that the main characters were working on. When things seemed like they were to tough to fix, it was amazing to see how Light or L would pull a fast one and fix everything up right then.
It was also great to see the change in characters. In the end, one person is the bad guy, but by the end, you can't help but cheer for him as the good guy.
Really, this is a mind-boggling series. A must read!

I completely agree with most of everyone who posted: death note is one of the best mangas out there! the art is fabulous and the story is real interesting. however, the logic can be mind-numbing at times... but it's still fun reading how they deduce things. the characters are interesting and very smart, but it seems like all the non-main characters are kinda stupid, especially the females. about halfway through, it gets kind of bleh and starts going downhill from there. the logic isnt as smart anymore and it feels like the story's just rushing to an end. regardless, it's still worth completing. the ending's totally inevitable.
all-in-all death note = must read.

Death Note is very thought stimulating, and is in-depth, but if you like mysteries, than you will probably like this. I thought it was wonderful, its complex, and the characters are easy to get attached to though you may not want to gt too attached, lol. It has great drawings, and a very interesting view on things. You also get to understand what most people would call the "bad guy" a lot better than in most books.

this series is one of the best series i have ever read but to read it you have to pay atention because all of the twists and turns are confusing if you dont pay atention but if you stick with it to the end and dont lose intrest then i will be one of the best things you have ever done(manga wise) and the ending is to die for just brilliant 10/10 in my opinion the auther (for his first ever manga) can be very proud of his series because i will always remember this as one of the best ever mangas and the ariest can be very proud aswell the art is one of the best ive ever seen 10/10 on art and they came together to produce this master piece ive had my say now its up to you to decide so give it a shot you wont regret it

This is one classic manga. The storyline is riveting, full of unexpected plot twists and surprises. The artwork is simply amazing, the interplay of light and shadow, the character development in both the story and in the art (compare "innocent" Light art when he has Death Note amnesia and "corrupted" Light when he's seriously scheming). As mentioned in most of the other reviews, the action in this series slumps in the middle at volume 5 and never quite reaches the early peaks. And I found the ending extremely disappointing. While I felt the ending dealt with the resolution of Light's megalomaniacal scheming in a predictable and inevitable manner, I much disliked the way the manga-ka showed how Light responded. In my opinion, he didn't act true to his character, and instead was portrayed in a manner inconsistent with how he had acted throughout the rest of the series. And it was sad that the ending was so predictable when the rest of the series is so notable for producing mind-bending plot turns.
Despite these flaws, this series is one of the best I've read and I recommend it highly. After all, most manga I've read has been rather disappointing in the ending. So, this is just par for the course. I just wish that the ending lived up to the standards set early on in this series and then this would be the most astonishing manga story ever.
