Flawless without being flawless...

Rating: 9.5  / 10.0
To be blunt it's amazing. The world is awesome, the characters are diverse and interesting, it is hilarious, really I laughed countless times so far. Still I didn't give it a perfect rating, why?

It is very well written, the translations are kind of screwed at times, but that's tolerable. The point of view is regularly changed and even minor characters seem special. Really one could argue the author does everything right what he could do. BUT.

It's the flow. Small things like you really want a certain character to appear now. Or knowing what will happen now exactly and wanting to just get things done. It shows other characters nicely but sometimes it just completely destroys what was build so far. It is often glossed over with humor or character development, and don't get me wrong, very skillfully. But disturbingly enough for me to lower the score no matter how insignificant.

I'd recommend this any day, especially if you want to have a good laugh and less sleep.

flawless novel for most people, you won't regret reading this - 9.5/10

Firstly, there is nothing wrong with being stingy. He was super poor for like 1/2 of his life and lived in debt before. He is just careful with his money unlike most people.
Second of all, you forgot conversion. How much is won into dollars? Making 1 mil won is not much since he has to support his family which is his sister who goes to University and his sick grandmother. He isn't really selfish with his family.
Thirdly, most early translations were made with machine translators which don't translate word by word creating some confusion. Japtem's translations and the review translations on RRL are better than the original ones since there have Korean translators.
Lastly, I think you are mistaken about the character's personality itself and the roles of the supporter/side characters. After all, Weed is the main character and the side characters are just there to support him, there is no need for them to appear all the time. You have to think that in a VR game or in real life, there are chance meetings that only happen once or twice...

My 3rd Light Novel
by popske

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
This is my 3rd Light novel I've started to read, I'm still in the midst of reading it because I can't read Korean and have to submit myself to the English translations. It is very good, It immerses you well and if you have a knowledge of MMO's it will be much more enjoyable. The adventures that Lee Hyun (Weed) goes on are amazing and just imagining it in my head gets my heart pumping. It may be reminiscent of sword art online, but that is only the concept of virtual reality MMO, The characters are different and seeing Lee Hyun's success and failures he differs greatly from Sword Art online's protagonist. Being a fan of MMO's myself, seeing Weed's level progression is really fun, and also seeing him go through his professions are also enjoyable.

Lee Hyun is a character that most will pity, his circumstances in the beginning of the Novel are really bad. The fact that he got out of the pit of hell called debt, may be one of the best moments in his life.
He has to take care of his sick grandma and also his high-school student little sister. He's had labour jobs since the age of 10 and has always put his sister and grandma first. This is the story of him making money while playing the virtual online game called Royal Road.

weed is one of my favorite MC in a light novel ever.
he's refreshingly unrepentant about his greed and upfront about his motivations. He's unscrupulous and always trying to figure out a way to get the better part of any deal. But he works hard, even if his motivations differ from most and he is absolutely hilarious in his terrified interactions and his suspicions with seoyun, especially in the beginning.
despite the fact that the fan translations need a lot of editing love (sentence structure, syntax, name continuity) its a very addicting series and i'm very glad that there is someone out there that is working on it at all!!
well worth reading, but the MC will either make it or break it for you.

I've read this book many times already, and I'm still not getting tired of it. The story is simply amazing, also I really like virtual Reality. And Weed is awesome - he's hardworking, strong, he cares for his family and doesn't just waste money. I really sympathize with him, because I would also be stingy and all, if I had the same childhood he did. The sidestory is really nice, it's good to not only show how he slays monsters in royal road, but also how he lives outside the game smile

I read it upto volume 20 on royal road.I was instantly hooked onto it the moment I started reading it.....I know that some people hate it,but instead of projecting your hate why not ignore it,your hate comments would only result in more people being deprived of the novel as it would increase their apprehensivity about novel....

MC has his own personality flaws and virtues, reading about his adventures, grandness of his fame, his quests, you create a sort of adoration and anticipation toward his adventures & sculptures,in a way u also become his fan.So just as every meaningless thing your favourite celebrity does is news for people,When you become a true fan of Weed his every 'meaningless' thing becomes enjoyable to read to read for you......

I am really thankful to
rainbowturtle translation for current express speed....

It seems most of the ppl r offended by the Mc char. I can't agree any less on that either but I would still like reading this stuff it is addictive, very well written n composed. And the things about mc's char I think we have already read about a lot of gud guyz always doing all the gud n great thing being very pure n bla bla bla we don't want to read that type of crap anymore as we have been reading/watching that same type of monotonous stuff from the day we were born we would now prefer to read something a bit evil n all (in BTW try reading the novel Ark... If u find lms char bad I wonder how will u rate ark's Mc I mean he is a total A*hole I won't say any more....) despite these fact the flow of the novel is really gud.. How the Mc is growing and how he is building his city morata and fighting off his nemesis while trying to get things done is really fun to read

Rooting for him

Life has taught this man some hard lessons that I'm hoping he'll have to reevaluate as he plays. Many great men (i.e. Carnegie, Rockefeller) had the same ruthlessness. He's manipulative and charming as a politician. Maybe something in the game will change that. But he hasn't hurt anyone and until he does I'll root for him. He sees money as a protective shield and who could blame him? Hopefully he finds that there's more to life. But who knows.

I haven't noticed any sadistic tendencies on his part so it must not be *that* clear. He is all about give and take because it has proven the most effective to obtain his goals.

It seems that his sister has a brother complex but he looks at her as more of a daughter than a sibling. I didn't find anything disgusting about his behavior towards her at all.

alphaGulp:

Your original point was against the protagonist. I have nothing to say about his sister’s feelings, but they have little to nothing to do with his own. The protagonist has done nothing wrong in this case.

When I used the word ‘great’ I in no way meant ‘good’. It is still up in the air whether our protagonist will be a ‘good’ man but he has all the makings of a great one: sly cunning and ambition. Rockefeller and Carnegie held immense sway and great power- there’s no denying that. Let’s not argue over semantics. Contrary-wise to their cruelty, in many ways the main character has shown a level of humanity that gives me hope: he is fair (for the most part), he loves his family and he is able to form warm feelings towards others.

He is driven but not cruel. I hope for the best.

This next bit is only conjecture, but his art speaks of a passionate soul that he doesn't even realize he owns. He feels deeply- a man as committed as he is to the welfare of his family must.

For the record: what Carnegie and Rockefeller accomplished was not easy. Stepping on people, using others and cruelty are common. Becoming powerful isn't.

This is so good

That I'm learning korean in order to read the rest. I'm literally forcing myself korea to read the rest of the thirty something volumes.

It's addictive and absolutely satisfying. Every chapter makes you crave for more, even though the chapter felt so good to read through. The story is massive, and the world, and the immersion it brings is astound.

There's a group that is cranking this series, in korean, through google translate, and slugging through the terrible machine translation to get an idea of its english counterpart and summarize that to us.
It's a summary of a human translation of a machine translation for us to read.
And it is STILL GOOD to read through. This series is so satisfying that I can slug through bad rewrite, summarizing, and editing.
