I've plodded through up to chapter 25, and stopped reading disgusted. It's shallow, predictable, everyone is supa-dupa without any reason. Fights are blurry and make no sense at all. Funny scenes not funny, didn't smile even once. Overall the whole manga "didn't make my heart pound" in any aspect. Booooriiing.
Like author himself wrote: "200 chapters from now I can proudly say that I've been working on Psyren since chapter 1". Yeah, it shows...

Probably the best way to describe this series. It's a Shounen battle manga, sure, but one that is believable in it's execution. Rather than fights being won through POWER OF FRIENDSHIP and MY BURNING SOULLLLLL!!!!, the enemies are taken down through strategy. Numbers are always important, and most of the fights are spent analyzing the enemies' powers rather than trying to muscle one's way through.
The way the series is divided into Present and Future is clever, and neither of the two drag on too long. Once a Future arc is about to end, you don't feel like you were cut short or it dragged on for too long and vice-versa. Seeing how actions in the present affected the future, and what has changed in the present since the crew has been dicking around in Psyren.
There is a very strong supporting cast, but the main protagonist (Ageha) isn't so flat he's overshadowed by them either. Also, the series breaks a mold recently set up in Shounen magazines regarding couples. You have instead of will they or won't they love triangle BS an actual official couple has been established since more or less Chapter 2. This was more common in older manga, but went out of fashion for whatever reason. I'm glad that series like Psyren and Bakuman are bringing this back.

In the beginning I didn't really like Psyren because the art wasn't very appealing, though the story started out alright, I especially disliked some early comments but I kept reading this manga, the story became much more involved and addicting. After I got used to the art, I started to really love Psyren. I hope that Psyren will continue to amaze me.

I felt it was starting out well, but it starts goes downhill after a while. The battle scenes are getting lamer and more drawn out than needed. Explanations are really anti-climatic.
Decent Shounen

For all of those wondering about that image up there, no, it's got nothing to do with Shakugan no Shana, character or plot-wise. It's an overall decent shounen manga, so if you're looking for a deep, intriguing story, you might as well look elsewhere. However, for those of you with time, it's definitely worth a read. Got a few cliches here and there, but it's shaping up nicely.

I just finished reading chpt. 40 and I'm really wowed..!. I've never enjoyed a shounen in it's 1st 30-40 chapters ( e.g, bleach, one piece, d.gray man and fairy tail). The art is good for a shounen. The story is really intersting for a shounen with 40 chpts. The pacing is good not too slow nor fast. and most importantly the fights are good unlike your avg shounens!
Bottom line, This shounen is one best shounens the jump puplishes every week. Don't mess it if you're looking for a really good new series.

This manga reminds me of a shounen version of Gantz mixed with Bleach. So far I've gone to ch. 27 and it is working slow I was hoping it was going to speed up but it never changed. I can see potential in this manga and hope it can get batter.
