Description
The story is of Kitano Seiichirou, a very kind and pure-hearted young man, with a horrifying, monstrous face. People being what they are, they think he's a terrifying delinquent, and there are plenty of chance misunderstandings (coupled with Kitano's convenient inability to understand what's happening around him) that propel him into the position of "school guardian", a.k.a. head thug on campus.

So funny, I love the mischief Kitano gets himself into. At first the series focuses on comedy but then the focus changes to character growth. My favourite character was Ikuno - she's so unbelivevably un-shoujoish that it was.just.so.thrilling lol I really recommend this series to everyone because it shouldn't be missed. (especially recommended for people who want LESS stupid, weak, whiny girls with big boobs and who look strangely american)
I finished this series within a few days =DD so with an extra plus it's relatively short

Who cares about art? This is a hilarious and heart warming manga

This is a manga about a really sweet, naive and innocent guy. Only, he was born with the face that looks like the devil. People call him 'demon' or 'devil' the moment they see him. Because he looks like this, many people think he's a junkie, a delinquent or any guy who will kick your ass if he'll stare at you.

But Kitano is not a drug addict - he's just a simple boy abiding by the rules, getting good grades at school, and hopes (wishes as well) that he'll manage to get 1 friend in his high school. Because of his face, he's never had any friends and people stay away from him or try to pick a fight with him because his face looks like he's 'challenging' someone. But no one dares to really fight him; his face is too scary, so they all surrender to him and proclaim him as the 'school guardian'. Which basically means you're the toughest guy in school.

That's how Angel Densetsu starts. You might think this is going to be a drama manga with the serious looking art and story premise. However, if you read at least 2 chapters, you'll notice this isn't a drama; this is hilarious! Angel Densetsu plays hilarious jokes on Kitano's appearance and the misunderstandings he gets into. There are frequent brawl fights, fists being thrown around, and A LOT of misunderstandings.

The jokes are really funny the first 40 chapters. Every time I see Kitano's face when he goes 'kyaaaa!' makes me laugh out loud. Unfortunately there is a downside; the jokes get way too repetitive and just how many misunderstanding can Kitano cause? I think the mangaka realized his jokes were running thin and he focuses more on the characters and developing them.

Angel Densetsu has got a great supporting cast, and I don't think I dislike any of the characters. In fact, one character (a blonde boy who becomes best friends with Kitano after Kitano supposedly 'beats' him in a fight) is one of the most developed of them all (he's the only one who changes in regards to personalty throughout the whole series) - and he's just a supporting character. Kitano is surprisingly one dimensional; but you can't help but like him. His love interest is an ass-kicking girl who is the first one to see Kitano's good side and eventually falls for him (but not much happens between them).

Many people dislike Angel Densetsu because of its art, but I must be in the minority here when I say I didn't mind the 'bad' art at all. I thought it fit perfectly with Kitano's scary face. However, the art really grows in later volumes. If you compare the first chapter with the last one, you'd have no idea those were the same characters. The mangaka developed his own style by the end of the series and the characters really shine through.

The ending was very nice and it didn't disappoint me; that's how it should end. I especially loved the character development of the blond haired guy in the last few chapters. I only wish they made the headmaster of his school realize Kitano is a good guy, not a bad gangster.

I recommend this manga to anyone who loves a good laugh and who likes heartwarming friendship stories!

In the beginning, this was possibly the funniest manga I ever read, I literally burst out laughing at least 3 times through-out a chapter. However, as was fated to happen the joke got old. I'm glad it ended when it did.

On a side-note, this manga made me realize that I'm not really that concerned with art, the artwork in the first volumes didn't deter me one bit.

This manga starts out with an interesting premise, with the potential for a lot of great comedy. But man does it become stale fast. I don't see how so many people have read the entire thing, and not become sick of the repetition. I mean yeah a new character is added every couple of volumes but it's a lame attempt at trying to keep it interesting. They're all one dimensional characters anyway; they don't develop in any way throughout the manga (well, I made it to chapter 42 - you'd think SOME kind of development would have taken place by then).

The romance aspect is retarded, so the only thing it can rely on is the comedy which is also retarded. Admittedly I enjoyed it more than I'm making out, but because this is so stupidly overrated on this site I just want to rage ever so hard. I mean how does something like this find it's way above manga like 20th Century Boys, and Berserk, and all that other amazing shit.

This was a weird read for me. At first I almost dropped it because the art did not appeal to me, but man I would have regretted it if I dropped this spectacular manga! It's everything a good manga is!

I admit I was a bit (very) put off at first with the drawing of the manga since I'm really fussy about it... but for the first time in my life, I forgoed it due to the fact that it was HILARIOUS!!!! It's just so ridiculous you won't be able to stop laughing!
it's not something that can be explained in words - read it. it's completely worth your time, especially if you're feeling down.

The manga has like no plot to it at all and sometimes it gets a little repetitive. However, the hilarious misunderstandings in the story never gets old and keeps you entertained. I reccomend this to anyone who likes comedy.

I was amazed at how much I liked this manga considering its poor start. At first, as you can guess from the manga description, it's a comedy playing on the main character's looks and misunderstandings of those around him. It's somewhat repetitive but still entertaining enough to keep your interest.

However, the manga really picks up after the first person realizes Kitano's true nature. The manga moves away from comedy and adds in more character development until it's almost completely character development with comedy as filler material. People come to understand and improve themselves. Heartwarming relationships are formed. As you watch the characters slowly develop, you'll become genuinely attached to them and find joy in their occasional antics.

I strongly recommend this series to everyone. Everything about it, including the artwork, starts out weak, but improves with each chapter. By the end, you'll definitely come to love the characters and enjoy the manga.

This manga is nothing new, the story is cliche and the art work is terrible.
Even so this is an amazing manga. The art, dispite itself conveys, exactly what its trying to show. A terrible faced person with a heart of gold. Usually i find a plot based around misunderstanding fustrating and annoying, but this manga has somehow done it flawlessly.
Without a doubt i suggest to manga to everyone. A lighthearted read thats funny and enjoyable. 3 thumbs up.
