A suspenseful and refreshing read.

One of my favorite mangas of all time, just wish it was longer!

But the nonetheless the shortness suited the manga, and the suspense and twists were very refreshing to see in a shoujo manga.
Art is not the most polished, but at the same time it is very original and the author has her own distinct style. It gives a fading yet rough effect.

I love Setsu and the fake-Luca's relationship. The romance is not over done and very very subtle. Some may not even see it. And Setsu is indeed more like a hero and fake-Luca the heroine, which is once again very refreshing and one of the reasons I love this manga. That does not mean that fake-Luca is a wimp, however.

The ending to me was honestly... rather heartbreaking. But it was inevitable and the ending was not entirely a tragedy, it was somewhat bittersweet. It was an ending that suited the manga and pretty much had to happen.

I recommend this manga to anyone who likes suspence-mysteries and strong heroines. The bittersweet ending and the heartfelt emotion is what makes this manga stay with you long after the last page. The thing about Midorikawa's mangas are the emotions put into it, she has a strong talent in portraying realistic emotions, whether it's loneliness or compassion. This manga has so many mixed emotions and subtleties that I feel people need to pick up to really enjoy this.

at first,i thought it was your simple, typical tomboy girl looking for her childhood friend. yup,it is simple.but the mangaka made a very interesting storyline, thus making it UNIQUE.
(As to be expected of midorikawa yuki..: ))
i really wish that she would be reunited with Luca (And that the series did not end as to where it was supposed to be)

i would really recommend it to all ages. : )

it made me go "wow" and UPON REACHING THE LAST PAGE, "shocks! its already the end?!?". this reaction was unusual, for there are shojo mangas that i have encountered that made me say "I already know the ending! end it already!"

I really want to buy her mangas and support her,but i haven't found anyone who sells her works here in our country.: (

Well-paced manga with interesting plot

The reviews say the plot is "confusing" or "the art sucks" well... I say, are those reviewers expecting every shoujo title to be a straightforward (i.e. cute but boring) work filled with nothing but bishounen?

I found the plot extremely refreshing, and the pace had me clicking for more. The heroine, like what the author says, is more of a hero, with the fake!Luca being the heroine instead XD.

Every character was interesting, in that they had their own motivations for the things they did, and some characters are not what they seem. Luca, whom Setsu almost kind of idolises... is especially not what he seems. I think this title would be enjoyed by people who love european-ambient political stories, and want something beyond self-indulgent eyecandy manga. smile

I don't think the end was tragedy though. There were just some things that had to happen. And that's what lends this manga a realistic feel.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this series at first with its kickass if somewhat androgynous female lead, plain artwork and mysterious plot. The story could be a bit slow-moving and uneventful at times, but in the end I would recommend this series, in that I found it very uncliched, so this is one for those that are tired of typical shojo plots. Just a warning about the end though, it might not be what you expect, though plenty of hints is given to that end throughout the series.

Firstly, SLOW UPDATES.
It's almost been a year since the last update of a chapter.
But I can wait. (:
Second of all, great story. There isn't much character development, but the story development helps back up that lack of element that Scarlet Chair doesn't have.
I anticipate so much from this even though I wouldn't necessarily WHOA at the overall work.
But yes, it's worthy of any reader out there looking for a little something to read.
In the end, I gave it a 10 for some odd reason, not because I'm particularly loving the overall, but because I'm completely drawn to it.
Odd.

For shoujo with politics, ..it's quite good. At least for me, who's completely blind about this kind of genre.

several comments, tho:
1) The swords. About the sketchy art, I can accept everything else (not that good, but not that unacceptable either) aside the swords. It all looked like bokken; dull and curved and.....whut?
2) The later plot revelation made it all personal, and in extension, rather.... shoujo-like. Yeah. >_>;
3) The feel was very plain, idyliic even, and it works at certain points, but on another, i kinda wish she used a more thicker pen. And the royalties all lacked grandeur... I don't think 'idyliic' have to mean lacking that majestic aura...
4) I like the protagonist, but so far only her. >_>; Others are....quite forgettable.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Even though I didn't really like Dorii Jin that much, I cried RIVERS when he died! D: Awesome; but so sad....CHAPTER 9! I DEMAND CHAPTER 9!! *end rant haha*
I just read Chinese raw (that I didn't get haha) and It was revealed that Setsu found the real Luca, and that the fake Luca's name is actually Saki. So Saki and Sestu get out of the castle, and Luca returns to the throne room. Before this, he promised to continue living, which is obviously a lie TT^TT Anyways, he goes to Kazuna, and Kazuna orders the intruders to bow down in the presence of the king. They probably didn't survive though, since the castle was razed the ground. There was also a flashback of Luca and Kazuna. Luca knew he was sick and wouldn't live for more than two or three years, so he went on the journey so Setsu wouldn't feel sad. However, he did live more that that, haha. Anyways, he wanted to give Saki, his best friend, who had nothing, everything he had: the throne. So sad. Depressing. Gosh. I cried rivers, I tell you, RIVERS.

...Now I'm wondering why this wasn't put under Tradegy... D:

I was able to finish the raws of Hiiro no Isu and I don't know what to say. Its definitely a fresh tone from the funny and refreshing shoujo's I love. Its tone reminds me so much of Piano No Mori... sad and touching. Maybe I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon this work by Midorikawa-sensei. Although its not ugly... I don't think I am looking forward to her other works. Its depressing.

The story more than makes up for the art

The art isn't very ugly- just rough and a bit lazy.

however, the story is amazing. I was captivated from the get-go. I am touched by the sense of wistfulness in the story and by the dedication the king, Setsu, and Dorii have shown towards each other and towards finding Yuka. It was heartwarming in that sense. There is also the atmosphere of mystery that this mangaka does really well and the twists- omg-the twists! got me screaming "omg!! no way!!!"

This manga really knows how to tell a good story! I hope it ends well and that Setsu will finally get to meet him face-to-face.
