That's the only thing I can say without resorting to spoilers, I could actually feel the writer worrying, scratching hair, biting pen and endlessly worried daydreaming trying to think of something to impress the reader.
Since the idea itself is kind of creative, the story line itself wasn't much new to any of the reader, we all had a life after all, and instead of going all the way to make a casual story where the reader could actually correctly predict the story course and appealed by the cuteness of the characters, it's obvious that the author wanted to do something new here and there, prove it yourself by finishing the manga yourself.
The new twists here and there were hard to familiar with, it really felt like it's a different manga every time there was a time skip or a big event. Eventually, it was the best part of the manga and it was worth all the risk involved.
This could have been a bigger manga and I sure would have read it even over the 300+ Chapters if there were any.
I'd respect the author of a manga I liked from the first chapter and I'll responsibly respect the authors opinion and way on ending the story. A perfect score for a perfect story of it's kind.

The timeskip makes it worse... 500 chapters in, it might've even worked somehow (unlikely as it may seem).
BUUUT that annoying weird teenager suddenly appearing in place of our cute lil Rin is friggin sacrilege. Even without all the out-of-character, walk-all-over-the-beginning-cuteness crap EVERY.SINGLE.CHARACTER proceeds to pull.
...in the end, the only half-sympathetic, true-to-form character left is the cuckoo mother's spineless doting sidekick/mangaka assistant/boyfriend. Which is just freaking saaaaaad.

The first 4 volumes are good but the story then turns into a meandering high school soap opera after a time jump and falls off a cliff around volume 8. The final stretch even fully undermines all the goodwill that came beforehand. The first half is 8/10. Second half a 3/10. What was the author thinking? I suggest reading the half as long My Girl (SAHARA Mizu) instead or to only watch the anime.

It's actually a good one, but if you stopped reading it at ch. 24. I couldn't help, but cracked a smile in each chapter.
But, things turned into the worst at ch. 25. Putting aside that my Rin is "ruined", they turned it into really different genre, rushed the story too much, and in the end I just felt like "Huh? Just like that? ".
Things might be pretty different if they didn't rush it...

1. The nonsense relationship between Daikichi and Kouki's mom. They both loved each other, and they both knew it. If Daikichi never tried to ask her out, then it's understandable, but Daikichi did ask her out, though he's rejected with "I'm too old" as an excuse. And yet, later she remarried with an old man that apparently asked her out several times. Though, till the end she still loved that Daikichi, even though she had married another man. I can't get impression of her as such a good person, and felt that she's just like a b*tch in ntr-Hitozuma eroge. Sorry.
2. Rin's and Kouki's relationship. You're suddenly brought into the scene when Kouki embraced Rin at ch. 25. Suddenly turning from a heartwarming series into some romantic one, isn't a good thing to do. It ruins your image of the manga, and just make you think, "ah, I know it, it must be another manga with the same setting". And yeah, they kinda rushed everything, that after the incident with Akira, Rin stopped loving him at all, after she gave Kouki a kiss with saying "that's for Kouki that I used to like". (C'mon, don't ruin the image of Rin into a b*tch, please. ) Not so long after that, she just moved into Daikichi. Yeah, and in another "suddenly" way. And, till the end there's not even a scene that shows they're kissing. So we don't know, do they even ever have a kiss? Could it she just ever did it with Kouki?. (Oh man, for the sake of justice, they should've drawn that. It's kinda unfair, and just let me think that Rin is already ruined and turned into a b*tch that suited as ntr eroge main heroine in 10 years)

I have quite mixed opinions about this piece.... My primary issue is that after volume 5 I felt like the story lost the pace it had built up.... My distaste for how the story progressed in the final volumes aside, I did not see the purpose behind fast forwarding the story to such an extent only to drop a couple chapters worth of flashbacks into each volume henceforth.... Also considering how the end wrapped up, I would have presumed it to have been less bland.... Regardless, it was a good read and definitely a refreshing change.... Josei this title is indeed however....

My whole comment on this series is just spoilers to explain why the ratings and reviews of people are so varied.
Firstly the summary is somewhat misleading.
Secondly, the regarding Kouki's mum
Overall I loved this series and the art matched the tone really well
Firstly the summary is somewhat misleading.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The series does start off as the summary says it does, but it changes the main cast to Rin after a 10 year gap and overall changes the whole tone of the manga in a noticeable way. It becomes more of a drama series rather than the heartwarming series it started off as.
Secondly, the regarding Kouki's mum
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
From reading a crap load of other mangas i can only see it as the authors indirect way of saying "people who are meant for each other but weren't meant to be".

From Rin's point of view, her feelings for Daikichi became stronger when she realised how her mother apologises for abandoning her because she had to work, yet Dai being a single man demoted himself and went through great efforts in raising her. Likewise Dai saw Rin's growth for the past 12 years. While somewhat unusual I'd say it's instinct to fall for someone and can't really be controlled. Dai even mentions he dislikes the outcome.

he agrees to an intimate (couple) relationship with her out of sense of duty. Personally, I'd hate to have someone do that for me.
Just to get my opinion out there. It's a rather cute manga overall. Read it anyway.... Last updated on December 24th, 2012, 1:18pm

it just can't be helped that the mangaka ruined some of our expectations. Really. But I have foreseen it anyway, so it was no such big surprise to me. And I had to admit that I hated this kind of forced story (you know what I mean, it is about the relationship between the characters). I would have liked it more if it were executed more realistically. After all, it DID begin rather realistically, so the forced result really spoiled it. Shame
That being said, I think the mangaka did quite a good job making it a seinen slice of life story, cause I will curse any shoujo with this kind of theme. They make my skin crawls....incest and stuffs....
