[i]

I'm looking for a manga with the following conditions:
- Protagonist: Male and cool/awesome
- The female lead (or the primary love interest) and the protagonist are enemies or at least in conflict with one another and stay this way for a fair bit (preferably at least half of the series).
- No gender benders, shounen or shojo ai (yaoi and yuri as well). I also prefer it not to be shojo.

Manga
Open Sesame fits perfectly for the first 6 volumes.
Superior is also pretty good in this sense, except only one half knows they enemies, but I'm guessing this will change.

Anime
Kaze no Stigma[/b] for the first two episodes.
Kodocha - It only lasts for the first 8 or so episodes from memory.
Gundam: The 08th MS Team - Again they were enemies for the first episode and even though they were on opposite sides, they could hardly be described as enemies.
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou - 4 episodes or something.
Basilisk - didn't really like it, stopped after 1st episode..
Romeo x Juliet - didn't like the male lead.
Gurenn Lagann - also fits after the time skip.
Kilico - Don't really like the character designs, but I'll keep reading (read the 1st volume).

A good non-manga/anime example would be Luke Skywalker and Mara Jada (Star Wars, obviously enough smile )

Thanks

do they have to be enemies or just have conflicts with one another, because enemies is a strong word to describe a relationship

Ao no Fuuin
Sanctuary
Seimaden ( there is some shounen ai in the background though )
Tokyo Crazy Paradise

That's all from me, this time. I have a sort of MU crisis after yesterday none

Conflict is fine, rivals even. It doesn't necessarily need to be a romantic relationship.

Ao no Fuuin - sounds like the protagonist is the female out of the pair, but I'll give it a try

Sanctuary - They were enemies for less than a volume from memory.

Tokyo Crazy Paradise - Gender bender, no?

Ao no... <- after the first volume, the guy has more time
Sanctuary <- longer. till the 8th volume they were still on hiatus

I'd recommend Special A and Kare Kano then.

Definitely try Basilisk again. The first Anime episode was non-canon, anyways. The manga starts from Anime episode 2.

Kare Kano and Special A don't really fit since both manga have female protagonist and tbl wants male...

I'm seeing that Aflame Inferno has what you want...

My suggestions:

Kurozuka, a really underrated manga. And i can't really understand why. Cool male lead, cool female opponent. Love, Betrayal, Vengeance. A relationship of love and hatred that goes beyond time. Is it possible to ask for more? Almost forgotten, art is sublime.
(Warning: a little gore).

The brilliant Vampire Juujikai, I can guarantee for it, even if at the beginning doesnt' seem to fit your description. It has only a flaw but I can't tell you without spoilering, so read it and discover for yourself biggrin

Gakuen Alice pretty similar to Kodocha (they're very much alike), and probably the hatred last longer (but they're kids, so it's not proper hatred), also 'cause it's darker than the Kodocha. I repeat again, it's very similar to Kodocha, so the leading character is a girl and it's a shoujo (even if it's not a cliché shoujo), but you put also Kodocha in the list, so I suppose it could be ok, sorry if I'm wrong.

Others that fit:

Kekkaishi, well it's more a hatred between families than between male/female lead. Your description could fit. I'm not a big fan of it anyway.

Immortal Rain fits well, but I didn't like it so much and I dropped it after a few volume, so I can't suggest it at all (only 'cause is fitting ur description). The database says "shoujo" but I didn't catch shoujo elements until I read it.

Watashi no Ookami-san does it count? Maybe. Try it only if the other ones didn't appeal you.

Well in short if I were in ur shoes I'll try the first three at least.

See ya

Reimei no Arcana, it's a bit shoujo-ish but at least none of those crazy sparkles and flowers. It's very beautiful too.

Wrestle! The Under Ground fits this, but there are only a couple of chapters scanlated so there's no telling how long they'll stay enemies.

Mizu ni Sumu Hana but it's more the other way around, since it's shoujo, she is the protagonist. It's not a perfect fit but might be interesting? (I don't mean the other Rikka, there is a guy showing up pretty soon).
*also wants more recs*
