I don't know how else to describe it other than "a manga dealing with issues".
There are a bunch of genderbender examples like IS where it deals with being in between sexes. Also other genderbenders which deal with crossdressing.
Doesn't have to be a genderbender, thats just the only genre where I found a number which matched this particular theme. There was also the manga REAL which dealt with physical disability. Also "forbidden relationship" mangas like koi kaze seem to fit.
I thought about comparing it to the drama, but it doesn't really fit. Basically its the kind of manga in which the character has to cope with/deal with/go through a serious situation.
Its kind-of a broad thing though :s

Hotman works, I've read it. Any manga where one character has to take care of another fits I suppose, though it'd depend on the series. Like hotman and Aishiteruze Baby..
I'm not really looking for anything sad though.. just dramatic and serious.

I've read pretty much every genderbender mentioned. Also, I'm not really looking for genderbenders. I think I summed it up as best I could in my previous posts.
I suppose another way to state what I'm looking for is a story where the characters overcome adversity. It can be ANY kind of situation.. Like a character's parent's both die and they have to live with relatives, a character has psychological problems/complexes/emotional problems that they have to overcome or deal with, or a character moves out of the house and has to figure out how to live on their own etc..
Kare kano kinda fits the bill, but its too light hearted and I didn't read all of it.
No Bra fits, since its a character dealing with his feelings towards a friend of the same sex.
Slice of life kind of stuff, nothing too actiony or adventurey.. I'm not looking for a manga where the characters go on a quest or anything like that.

Maybe Holyland, since that deals with isolation, escapism, and violent instincts.
Honestly, I could suggest a lot of horror, slightly less realistic series, or series that lack this sort of thing as a central focus (but still contain it), but I think that's not really what you're looking for.
