Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is perfect example of this it has a wonderful story and beautiful art work but for some reason or another its never been licensed, Which is unfortunate because I'd love to own a nice hard copy of it.

What I'm looking for are manga that has been overlooked in favor of the more flashy and more derivatives titles you tend to see on the shelves of your local book store. The suggestions don't have to be carbon copies of YKK in fact I'd prefer a wide variety of genres.

What I'm not looking for are titles that have obvious elements that make it so that they'd never get licensed. Kodomo no Jikan would be a perfect example of this given some of its more racy content. Something else that may disqualify a title is if its just too derivative in this case Ai Kora would be good example, being a Love Hina fan reading Ai Kora gave me a strong sense of deja vu.

... Do you have any idea how many AMAZING manga are never licensed for almost no reason?
BTW I recommend Mx0 (or was it MxO) its from the the maker of Pretty Face and its pretty funny but because its fan base didn't increase as steadily as other shonen jump manga they dropped it and it ended early (even though its fan base was larger than some of shonens other stuff)
Also Saru Lock if you've read GTO or anything like that you'll love Saru Lock.

@Cloudsora

Yes I am aware of that there are a tone therefore this should be an easy request especial since I just want everyone's opinion when it comes to titles they think should be licensed. The problems I've be having in my search is that there is an even larger number of poor to average works out there and frankly its getting painful to wade through them all.

As for yor suggestions thank you, I've been reading Saru Lock but I'll give Mx0 a try.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi: anime licensed not the manga this is a popular title in japan but its still amazing
Onani Master Kurosawa: A bit of a gross theme but its an amazing story
Zippy Ziggy
Akkan Baby: The theme is "too much of a gamble to license in america"
Watashi no Messiah-sama
Bitter Virgin: Same with Akkan Baby except this one is actually a bit risky if they brought it over
Hotel: I doubt we are ever going to see one-shots licensed here in america

These are all manga I recommend to people often (that aren't licensed)

Ares it's the best action shounen I know (manhwa).

Gunslinger Girl I think it has been dropped by ADV (I don't live in the States, so I'm not sure, I put it anyway since it's not as famous as it should be, it's my all time fav manga smile ).

Historie amazing historical manga on Eumene of Kardia.

Toradora! one of my fav comedy series.

Saint Oniisan one of the funniest thing I've ever read (but this could fall in the category "stuff which is not gonna be licensed for obvious reasons" since it's about religious figures).

Shina Dark I like the fact that it's gonna be more serious than expected.

Kurozuka very good story. amazing art.

D-ASH a good sport story.

Elfen Lied I find strange this is not licensed.

Mahoraba one of the best comedy out there.

Shin Angyo Onshi great story.

Angel Densetsu funny and good if you can bear the art.

Milk Crown one of the few shoujo that can really make me laugh.

Watashitachi no Tamura-kun same author as Toradora!

Chokotto Sister good art, good light ecchi anime.

There are what according to the website are not licensed and I'd really recommend (some of them are quite famous even if they're not licensed, but I list them anyway).

Why isn't Glass Mask licensed?
I agree with Akkan Baby and Bitter Virgin, though.

I live in the states and ADV actually went belly up this year. They sold off all their assets including Gunslinger Girl which means its probably owned by someone here and is therefore technically licensed. However from what I've seen in the past with this sort of thing is that if someone owns it there is a good chance they'll just sit on it and not released it. If it wasn't sold its probably in some sort of copy right/license limbo Hell which also means it may never be released in the states. In any case I think that for now the scanlators (if they are based in the states) while they may technically be doing something illegal there is good chance no cares nor will they enforce whatever laws may apply.
