Lately everywhere I look around either completely scanlated, during process or by ranking, boys love manga always comes up! A LOT

Is it just me? is this a new fashion in Japan? does it represent the taste of most? am I being homophobic? or is it just a coincidence that many groups chose the same genre?

Well either way I would like to know everyone "opinion" and I remind you that this is what I think and that by doing this topic/poll I don't want to insult anyone or their taste in manga.

I'm going to have to say "maybe," because ever since that lovable manga filter was created (how did I live without it?), I've been oblivious to their numbers.

Aren't most of those just one shots or doujins anyway?

Who cares? If you like it good for you, if you don't you have the filtering.

you are crazy.
It's been this way for a good while, not that surprising really. It just means lots more people are scanlating those, really not that big a deal.

and like others have said, just filter it if you don't like it, meh.

Yes YES!!! I believe you.

But I don't care. Gay people can do whatever they want. None of my business.

Also, it's because society as a whole is turning gay. It's true, we had a discussing a while back.

Yeah the filter feature really saved my sanity.

But as for its meaning, it's either of two things (or both):
-More gays are reading manga
-More girls are reading manga

Either way, more readership is always welcome.

It's just mean more group translates Yaoi. If you see a Yaoi release, it's mean there are translator, editor, QCer, etc decide to work on it and release it. The number of readers sometime don't matter. It's really the "Gods" who decide which mangas they want to work on and release them.

You may notice last week, there was a hugh releases of Yaoi. That was due to valentine day and a group's anniversary.

wow thks everyone I created this topic just a few hours ago and I already got many of your "opinions" and clearly it is just as you said, I can filter the genre in a second but...

I wanted to know if it has been like this always or just a new wave fashion comming!

Let me know more about what you think and I remind you to please be polite with the umm... words/terms you use!

PS: From what I get from your posts it means that girls really like this genre, is it? If you are girl and like/read this type of manga let us know what you think!

It just became more publicly accessible and acceptable. Also don’t forget that Japan (along with most of Asian countries) has integrated sexuality in their culture somewhat differently than the western countries.

That mostly happens because there are very few long yaoi series and if you add doujinshi into this, it does seems that there is a lot of it. Just consider that average yaoi story will run around 1-4 volumes (with some exceptions) while average shoujo or shounen runs for much more. Besides that, the gender has actually evolved these years and there are more and more stories that are aimed not just for female readers.

I read yaoi along with any other gender. I usually pick manga based on its story and art, not on its gender, so it’s all same to me as long as I find it interesting.
