Does the rival have to have a chance? If so, the only one I can think of is Renai Shinjuu. Note that this manga is absolutely terrible, but it's one of those 'it's so bad it's funny' types of things, so if you like The Room and Troll 2, you might enjoy it.
Sukimasuki is an interesting one.
There are gay rivals in Gokusen and Nodame Cantabile but they never have any sort of chance with the male leads; it's just for comedic value.

I've read that one and that I also find it terrible and i hated the characters especially the main heroine and the main guy.
