One of the BEST Romantic Comedy I have EVER read!
by Padawan

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
Great story, great characters, awesome character development, even more awesome inter-character development smile
And funny to boot.
If you think the summary sounds cliche, then you'd be wrong; the content is totally fresh. No tiring tropes. Every chapter gets you hooked and you just. can't. stop. reading!
I feel ashamed to have ignored this one out the first time I knew about it.

It is unlike the typical romcoms around.
Fanservice is kept to a minimum and they're not senseless or 'cheap' (If that's what worries you).
One other thing I appreciate is the unbiased number of males in this manga; usually romcoms have a guy-to-girl ratio of like 1:10 or so, but this manga has more or less equal guys and girls, which is kinda refreshing.

Yoshikawa Miki-sensei is one of my top favourite mangakas right now.

This and The World God Only Knows are two of my top favourite romcoms.
Also, this needs an anime.
(There's already a great promo PV of it on youtube though).

As Jason Thompson from ANN said, "it's a fun, funny, and surprisingly clever magical rom-com".
I agree COMPLETELY.
(As a consequence of reading his ANN article, I just realized Crunchyroll has a new manga service, with Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo as one of its titles. The killer here is that their titles are SIMULTANEOUSLY RELEASED SAME TIME AS JAPAN.
They are 5-6 chapters ahead of what Mahou-x & Mangaholic are offering as of this writing...So I'm extremely tempted to subscribe there now.)

Shounen I like

This is the only shounen I can stand. It is funny and charming, though it has ecchi elements, they are not as constant as in some other shounen, and they have a very normal high school feel. Though it's definitely a harem set-up, all of the characters, including the girls have well developed personalities and act on their on behalf. The one thing it lacks so far is much seriously character growth. Each character has an initial bout of growth when they come into Yamada's circle but so far it stops after that. However, it is still good fun and makes me smile.

Great rom com

This manga delivers everything I look for in a rom com: loads of comedy, slow romance. The art is nice, especially character's expression, which make the comedy funnier, and the romance more convincing. I can literally see how and when Shiraishi and Yamada
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
fall deeper and deeper in love with each other (one of the earliest example was when they kissed for the 2nd/3rd time, Yamada looked completely swept off his feet, in both his male AND female form xD )
. Yamada's way of thinking are so unpredictable, and unique that his words and actions keep throwing me into surprises after surprises. Shiraishi immediately captured me with a healthy mix of tsun- kuu- and dere- moment, plus she can actually think and reason, really well! The support cast is also very interesting and has their moment of brilliance/hilarity. It must be just me, but female shounen mangaka (If you haven't known it, yes, this manga's author is a chick!) have a knack for great characterization.

The powers are all very well thought out, as the characters exploit the magical and personal powers in their arsenal very extensively. And they're not afraid to try weird application of their powers, either. The characters also realise the power of information pretty early, and actively work for it, through experiment, theorizing, and investigation, thus giving a lot of relevance to the "power-less" characters. While they're not at the level of a thriller/detective manga, they're refreshing to read, especially if you're tired of all the "power level" races in shounen manga that would write off "low level" character as irrelevant.

If you're into shoujo, don't be put off by the shounen tag, this manga would fit nicely into both the shounen and shoujo demography

Greatly recommend for all fans of romance, comedy, light fantasy, or all of them!

Addicting, Suspensful, Hilarious, & Satisfying

I love absolutely everything about this manga. The art style is spectacular (emphasis on each character's facial expressions), the plot is fast-paced, nice fanservice (yes, I am female...), and the romance is overall satisfying yet keeps you at the edge. Each character is so unique and likable; no cutboard cutout characters - with some exceptions but Yoshikawa plays it off so well, you don't really give a damn. You can't help but be attached. When I first read this series, I spent a good 16 hours reading all the chapters (about 64 back then) and there was no place I could stop and take a break; this is a page turner. As of now, I'm impatiently waiting for Chapter 73 (but I very, VERY much appreciate the translators) to the point where I'm having dreams about reading the new updates...call me crazy, but this series is so addicting and suspenseful that it gave me a new appreciation to Romantic Comedy (with a touch of fanservice) manga.

Overall, I'm proud to say that I'm stuck on this series.

Well the mangaka has struck gold again

Once again, the mangaka has hypnotize me with a another superb shounen romance manga. I simply love everything about this manga, her first manga, Yankee kun, first got me into reading shounen mangas and I was a bit skeptical about this one because most mangakas tend to repeat their plots or stick to what they know, but she NAILED it!! I can't even wait for updates!, most of the time I go searching for the raws. The characters are hilarious and unique ,the plot is interesting, and I like the fact that she added a bit of mystery into the manga. Moreover, for a shounen manga, I'm surprise to see that the action is not over powering the romance and vice versa. All in all, this manga is actually worth reading, this is the epitome of a romance shounen, unlike Nisekoi =_=.

To put it simply its dense while being simple, its just amazing to put in the least. It leaves you excited every time it leaves you hanging. After reading over so many series with the same settings i truly believe that this can blow your mind, the execution by the author is really good. RECOMMENDED

This mangaka has done it again! It's captured the interest I originally had for Yankee-kun (the LOL expressions, pretty characters, fun plot) and is totally running with it.

Just coming from a long hiatus from manga-reading, I just didn't think a high school themed story would reignite the addiction. I was also wary when more characters were added to the mix, but it's nice to see they've been properly fleshed out. In Yankee-kun, too many characters - which I gave absolutely no shits - about kept being introduced. I also am liking how this manga keeps adding new layers to the character development, whereas Yankee-kun kept recycling the same jokes about the same characters.

I think this is the manga Yankee-kun was supposed to be.

It hits the 60th chapter mark... ~and it scores!
This series is solid, light entertainment. Give it a try if you want something not too serious but still want some substance.

well so far so good.. it has everything i'm searching for in a manga.. it's not too serious and it's not shallow at the same time smile there's a bit of romance and a lot of comedy. and i love the fact that unlike other mangas, it's quite unpredictable at times without the cliches and all

This Sensei knows how to draw funny expressions and even thought I didnt like Yankee-kun/Megane-chan(because the ending X( just meh) I have the feeling that this will keep me reading until the end.
Anyway. The beginning is a little dragging but after ch10 it moves on really well. I have to say that I really like all characters in this one. Especially Shiraishi. As a female lead in a shounen, she is really composed and always keeps her cool. Yamada on the other hand seems reckless but I have to give him credits for doing the most idiotic things (together with Miyamura)
The story goes on with short arcs(3-5 chapters long) introducing new characters and their influence. But i think the arcs will get longer once all witches appear. The only thing I don´t like is the ecchi genre but thats just something on the side(well at least I dont really notice it because it´s just too hilarious) This story still has so many things to tell and the characters get interesting(Especially mysterious Miyamura, the student council, the relationship between yamada and ushio and of course why they got those abilitys and the story behind it all) Really an entertaining read after a stressful day XD
