One of the best this year

Giving this a #10 score after just reading the debut chapter may sound too much but its that good. It strays away from everything cliche and goes on head strong without too much fan service to keep new people interested in reading (there may be some typical scenarios you'll find from loads of manga here and there but it feels fresh). The debut reminds me of the very 1st chapter of kimi no iru machi, i just hope it won't transition into that type of manga in the future (yes there will be a future for this) huge thanks to the person who translated this; i do agree with his/her opinion of this having huge potential and it being a waste if not scanlated

Great start

Manga had a great start, and I liked our main characters. Then the plot started to drag and even though this story is only 19 chapters by the end I was kinda ready for it to be done. Would still recommend if you're looking for a nice romance with a "good enough" ending

Melodramic

The drama that comes along in the 2nd part of the series just doesn't make sense. She stars acting weird and baking for reasons that just don't make any sense at all, especially considering they are only in middle school. Too much pointless drama in the 2nd half of the series.

It's everything I've ever wished for in a romance manga.

If you like weak frail heroines who require a protagonist to protect and save them every couple seconds then this manga is not for you, what I love about this manga besides the beautiful character art and background art is the plot, its amazing simply outstanding, a workaholic high school student and his rough and tough Yankee childhood friend work together so that the Yankee girl can go to a prestigious school where a boy she likes goes (although the workaholic likes her though), the layout for this Manga is simply magnificent very well done absolutely nothing I can criticize, a must read, only problem I forsee is that this may be a rather short manga, once again this manga is not for those who dislike strong female leads and prefer weak, overrated, long haired, gigantic breasted female leads who require the hero to come to their rescue every second.

It had potential but went down slowly

It started in an interesting way. Nothing too new, to be honest. A smart but anti-social male lead, a free spirit as the female lead, and a struggle for the MC in growing out of his shell while realizing his feelings and trying to convey them properly. Either way, it managed to catch the reader's attention. It had an in-universe "deadline", it was like a romantic and coming-of-age race against time. But the execution was far from perfect. So we quickly got
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
an unlikely romantic false lead for the MC (because every anti-social guy has this girl "outta nowhere" who is secretely head over heels in love with them, right?)
, and then... it kind of went downhill from there. I have the feeling the author had known for at least 10 chapters this manga wasn't going to last as much as he/she would have liked it to. So a lot of overused cliché were thrown into the mix to make the story progress 10 times faster (but the author still probably couldn't end it the way they would have liked to, because it would have made little to no sense in such a short amount of time). It's a shame, because it was intended to run for much longer and it would have probably taken different directions in the development of many characters. Instead we got a rushed and forgettable story.
It still deserves a good rating overall, because of the art and its captivating early chapters.

For anyone wondering, this manga's ruin was the fact that the magazine it ran into shut down, the main character's shyness and intelligence had nothing to do with it.

A DREAM MANGA FOR SHY SMART GUYS...

...that abruptly turns into a nightmare. I think the plot twist toward the end may have been motivated by some editor's move to end the manga quickly because a smart, shy protagonist doesn't tend to go down well with the shounen audience.

I still grieve a bit every time I remember this manga.

Great so far

So far, this manga has been great. The characterizations are near perfect and there is room for further development. In just six chapters, we come to understand the two main characters very well and we also understand their motives. You can feel the main character's problem, because the love rival isn't some douchebag, but a sympathetic and hardworking individual who probably deserves good things as well. Speaking of side characters, there have been a few characters introduced and they're quite easy to understand, as well, like the caring teacher, the friendly girl, etc etc. As you can guess, this is a character driven series, and having good characters is an essential part -- something the mangaka has succeeded in creating.

If you read the first chapter, you'll know if you're going to like/dislike the characters, and you can decide whether this is a series for you.

As far as art goes, I'm very happy with it. There are instances where the mangaka makes the effort to draw the scenery and backgrounds, and he/she does a good job with it - a lot of detail in clothes, the sky, buildings and general background art. I say "he/she" because there is a mixed tone in this manga. The plot is shoujo-esque, but there is an undeniable seinen feel to it. This is not your average shounen romance series with a tsundere, a harem of girls or misunderstandings or any of the annoying crap you'd read in most shounen series.

This is a 9/10 from me, and I normally don't rate this high. A definite candidate for my top recommendation list, and the best series I've read that's started in 2013. CHECK IT OUT!

It was good...

Though it would have been nice to get some more conflict with

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the guy who was the object of Kagetora's affection before she realized she was in love with Waketake.

Instead it introduces a bunch of pointless side characters and spends its time on them. That's an ongoing problem I have with a lot of these manga that are shorter in size. They tend to waste too much time on introducing side characters. In 19 chapters, they introduced so many and it felt bogged down & it wasting the time on them that could have been exploring the lead's relationship. I mean 1 or 2 is fine, but not as many as this introduced.

I liked the ending, but....

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
They show they like each other and this seems like the perfect story for an epilogue. He a doctor and she a police woman and they get married. I'm a dreamer, what can I say. I mean obviously it's implied they would be together after achieving their dreams, but it would have been nice to see.

Great pacing

The story has great pacing. There is development, but not too much to ruin the series. It's slow enough that you can process the interactions between the characters, but the story isn't stagnating. None of the chapters feel like fillers, and so far the cast is small enough that the introduction of a new character doesn't feel like the author is running out of ideas.

The main character is a total loser though, but it will be interesting to see him grow.

Really I love pure shounen romances like these, especially when it gives you those tummy butterflies Most romances give me do I do I, but this series really stirrs me up y'know. I love Kagetore, so tough yet sweet, honest, and genuine to herself. I can't wit to see how the relationship between her and wakatake goes.
