Description
High school is difficult for most kids. But for Kayano, a shy girl whose single mother seems to work all the time, it's even worse than usual. She's so afraid of drawing attention to herself that she can't tell the handsome Kamijo how much she loves him until one day she finally gets up the courage to write him a letter confessing her feelings.

It was fine, I just dislike the roundabout ambiguous way Takeru expresses himself. It becomes annoying sometimes. It's a self righteous tough love that is actually useless, just say things clearly damn it -__-

I was annoyed by the fact that he decided to leave without even discussing it with her and then suddenly everyone's happy. Damn! 5 years, really? Usually when you really love someone, you want to be with them. It was just too easy for him to go away and be ok with the separation. Then Boom! happy end *Rolls Eyes*
The ending was perfect. Yes, the art isn't that great at first, but it improves A LOT. Like, looking between the earlier chapters and the last chapter, you can't believe it's by the same artist. It doesn't change enough that you don't recognize them, though, just enough that they're more beautiful and cleaner. It's a great story, and my heart was so full at the end that it almost hurt. I was THAT satisfied with this story. It's great, beautiful, bittersweet, and all-around one of my favorite manga. 🙂

Edit 2: Oooooof I'm reading it again in 2020, more than seven years after my initial review, and I just noticed bro is wearing a swastika arm band in chapter 3. Hard pass. I can't believe I enjoyed this so much when I was 16. It did not age well.

Reread it, noticed that it kinda felt like a one-sided relationship on her part emotion-wise, though Takeru obviously wanted the attention. Also, the whole 5-year thing? No.

The art is great! I especially liked the 90s fashion spread splash pages where the characters were dressed to the nines. The story is captivatingly told, but entirely too pure. Innocent from beginning to end. And that includes after they become 'adults.' So points off for unnaturally sweet unreality and blissed out endings. But I still kinda liked it--in a guilty sort of way. It does have a moment of brilliance when the main protagonist realizes getting hurt is part of getting happy. But mostly just too. Innocent.
I tried, really, to get over the MC's cross-eyed facial expressions. I think the mangaka was going for cute, insecure and nervous. It irritated me. I did read some of the comments about the art being a bit rough and normally, I can deal with it. But the cross-eyed protagonist isn't my thing. Story-wise (as far as I was able to read up to) it wouldn't step into the boundaries of uniqueness, but was something I could've kept reading. Too bad.
The story was so wonderful. The characters were memorable. I agree with some of the other users that this manga seems a bit like Marmalade Boy but a bit more enjoyable. The art in the beginning was a tad bad but as the story progressed so did the mangaka's art.

The ending told in Hikaru's point of view was a cute suprise.
And the last picture made me extremely happy. I had already watched the Taiwanese drama and was greatly happy with it. After reading the manga that inspired the drama, it made me want to watch the drama again for the 5th time. So I will.Spoiler (highlight to view)
That piece of human filth left her sad and alone for 5 years. Too bad Kayano couldn't have found someone else in order to make him suffer.
The story got really good at the end but really slow moving. Artwork got better as the story went along. I LOVE the side story of the little boy so funny! Other than that I give the story a 6.9 but the side story a 10
Admitally, the artwork isn't great but it isn't bad. There are a lot of times where the art is pretty good, but there are also times where the art isn't that great. I haven't finished the manga so far, but it's so-so. Obviously you can't expect this manga to be a certain way, without drama or anything because it IS a shoujo/drama/school life manga. I'm not generous so I won't rank THAT high, but it also isn't that bad yet, so a 7 it will stay.
i personally isn't crazy about romance manga because most of them are cheesey and corny and boring but this one is good. The art isn't good and cute but the story makes up for it.
The main character is very weak willed. She turns back on everything she says even when she was usually right to begin with. Some may view this as being submissive, but in this case I feel she doesn't trust her own opinions. I am also annoyed that she is often drawn cross-eyed.
