I don't even know anymore, such a mess.

I started reading this a while ago, but put it on hold. I wondered why so I re-picked it up today. And understood why I put it on-hold. The story is such a mess in some places, it doesn't even properly progress, keeps backtracking over and over for what seems to be just for sake of extending it.
While the story certainly wasn't dull, it just made me facepalm a lot. I'm not going to agree or disagree with whether the story was rape-based or not and judge based on that, but I found it stupid just how horny Morinaga always was, unable to keep himself in check. Ever. And it just kept happening about every chapter. Combine with something that just felt like domestic violence... What was really worst though, was how much the story dragged on. They didn't really get any kind of actual character development until Masaki came in, all just the same stupidly horny seme and violent uke-in-denial.
It's not the worst manga out there and I'm sure some people can still enjoy it, but it's no gem either. If you enjoy the almost-rape, drunk sex, stockholm syndrom, uke in denial coming through, violence, angst, self-doubting, emotional blackmail, misunderstanding combined with unnecessary jealousy while being distrustful clichés etc etc... by all means enjoy. The art is okay, it gets better through the story. Some aspects like Sou's family and all the living together stuff are quite enjoyable.

This manga has pretty art, lots of hot sex scenes, and a slow, emotionally satisfying progression of the main relationship. It's also true to the genre convention in which the seme is so overwhelmed with love and lust for the uke that he rapes him. The protesting, reluctant uke secretly wants it, of course, but he's too proud, repressed, and in this case too homophobic, to admit it. Then they both angst about it, the seme feels guilty etc.
If you like this trope you'll probably like Koisuru Boukun, since the manga's practically built around it. In addition to that you get to witness Tatsumi and Morinaga building a life together - moving in together, getting involved with each other's family issues, thinking about the future. It all unfolds at an even, satisfying pace, and nothing is rushed.
Some women find non-con hot. The concept shouldn't be that hard to grasp. This manga is for this type of women. If you don't want to read non-con, don't, no one's forcing you to. Rape apologisists suck, but so do righteous busybodies who try to control women's sexuality. Just do us all a favour - go find yourselves a nice, 100% consensual yaoi and stop fingerwagging at the rest of us.

Koisuru Boukun is without a doubt my favorite yaoi! I love the humor, but I also love the serious moments. This manga is a perfect combination of both. It's heartwrenching and yet very funny. Morinaga and Senpai are both so loveable. But also the side characters and background/family stories are very likeable and add depth to the plot. And the art is simply amazing!

I first saw the OAV of this and I was hooked. There's just something about Souichi's reluctance towards Morinaga that tugs my heartstrings. The love-hate tsundere relationship is very cute, but it gets gradually erotic!
The characters are drawn beautifully as well! When I first saw it, I didn't know it was yaoi as it doesn't have the typical look of a yaoi (which I'm not very fond of anyway).
As much as I love the yaoi scenes, it's the storyline that gets me as well. There are soooo many sweet scenes that you can't help but love them! If you're put off by the pseudo rape at the beginning (and to be honest, the later ones too. Souichi, you're so dishonest!), you'll be surprised at how sorry you actually feel for Morinaga instead.

If I had to choose one manga with amazing story-telling it would be Koisuru Boukun. Unlike most other BL works the trials and complications that the protagonists have to face are not sudden out-of-the-blue rival love interests or a random change in circumstance. As a result everything feels planned, as if Takanaga approached Morinaga and Souichi's story with the intentions of making it 7+ volumes long, as of opposed to Takanaga writing a few pages about them and then getting one publication extension at a time.
As someone mentioned before, this manga also gets major props for having the sex scenes be more than just sex for the sake of sex; while I feel that some scenes were a little forced, most of them played a vital role in illustrating the growth of their relationship. This story opens with rape and continues with dubcon, which is a big set-back for what could have been an amazing manga, but just this once don't let that put you off reading it. I'm not a big fan of the start (keristars covers everything I hated about it), but for the most part, everything after and including volume 3 is amazing. In addition Souichi is an extremely likable character, often mean but surprisingly aware and attentive of the emotional nuances in the people around him.
Now onto the bad points. My one personal pet peeve post-volume 3 of this manga is Morinaga when he is trying to be sincere about his ability to control himself for Souichi. It's totally ridiculous. He's taken advantage of Senpai so many times and he still has the nerve to get offended when Souichi gets suspicious of his actions? Just because this happens to be the ONE time he's hugging Souichi without ulterior motives? He only became a (paraphrasing Morinaga here) 'mind over matter' guy once he did Souichi a few times, started getting dissatisfied of just having Souichi's body and started wanting Souichi to like him back.
Though I liked that after the rape Takanaga did not give into the 'doing it awakened my feelings for you' trope and have Souichi all over Morinaga, I also hope Takanaga was not trying to have the audience sympathise with Morinaga in volume one when he tried to defend his decision to rape his friend. Their argument should have ended with the fact that Souichi trusted him and he took advantage of this trust. To put it concisely, Souichi is a very endearing character and probably deserves someone better than Morinaga (Igari? hohoho), but I'm still faithfully following the continuation of this manga so it is well worth reading until the end.

. I see that many people have issues with the first volume and I quite disagree with that. Because I see that quite often the many mangas and this author likes to address this issue and lot of her spin-offs for the series and it's kind of like even though he did such a thing to this character this another character can still forgive him because he still cares for this character. And I'm not trying to say reapers is okay but when it comes to Yowell a lot of times it is rape which don't get me wrong I do get turned off by the or I do end up skipping it but for this service I continue to read it especially after reading her previous work Challengers and I enjoyed in period but with the sauce if she really has a good town of riding her serious and I would definitely recommend continuing to read this because it just gets better it may start out rough at first but it just keeps getting better especially the while I'm 9 and the fact that the author can't give up on these characters and still writes this makes me happy to know that she still continuing to read this series.

Was the third yaoi I ever read and I initially hated it because of the homophobia and rape scene. I hate those kinds of yaois the most.
But I came back eventually and fell in love with the characters. They're so believable for me. I even read the original story Challengers which I don't like as much though it explains a few things that Koisuru Boukun didn't bother to. Souichi is adorable and I fell like I can connect to him, while I just want to hug Morinaga and pat his head like a good kouhai.
While I can see why people wouldn't like the series, I think the progression is very believable and realistic. And as for the arguments that their relationship is mostly non-con, then you need to be able to read subtlety better.

A lot of people are saying don't read this because it's predicable and because Senpai get rape by morinaga. Well guess what. That only happens in vol 1 and only 1 time. I really enjoy reading this because the author always delivers what i want and throughput the series, their relationship just kerps getting better and better with the orinfal charavter from changllers and full of comdey that you can't help but laugh and find it adorble. Also the fact that it hard to guess who's the seme or the uke is amazing as well. I wasn't going to read this after i read chanllgers but after i saw the ova i fell in love with this. Give this a shot! one of the Best yaoi ever!

#CONTAINS SPOILERS# The drawings are good, the characters have well rounded personalities... But the story begins with rape and that was a total turn off for me. One character is drugged, cannot move and gets raped by the other. It reminded me of Ghb stories. Later the rapist say he's sorry but that it's also the victim's fault for disregarding his feelings. That made me shiver, seriously. I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to accept someone would forgive their rapist and let rape be trivialised that way.

Rape = to force (someone) to have sex against their will
I'm kinda amazed and disturbed at the number of people who don't think this manga has rape. This is a good manga and kinda like it. But damn people, rape is still rape. >.>
As I read this manga, it goes like this, "I realize I really love you, so I'm actually gonna ask for your permission before i f*ck you". I thought people are always supposed to ask for consent. But I guess as long as it's love, who cares about the other person' s free will right? *sarcasm
