No, NOT yuri! Lol.

I'm looking for an otherwise "straight" shoujo manga which has one or both of the following:

a) Actual, bona fide lesbian characters. There should be at least one lesbian character that shows up for a significant amount of time (no less than 1 whole chapter).

b) Really obvious lesbian fanservice. biggrin Like you know how in some shoujo mangas there's gay fanservice between two beautiful guys, who despite being straight end up in compromising positions, end up kissing for some reason (e.g. dare/pretense/prank) or just have too close/intense a "friendship" to be entirely straight? Yeah. That kind of fanservice, but with girls. wink

I realize this may be difficult to find mangas for but I hope someone can come up with recommendations!

The only manga I can recall right now is Me & My Brothers, where the straight shoujo heroine is briefly (albeit half-jokingly) pursued by a (really hot) older lesbian woman who bears a striking resemblance to the heroine's mother. Lol, it's wrong on so many levels - the similarity with the mother, the fact that the heroine is totally underaged and bordering on loli - but the mangaka makes the whole thing really funny and kind of... sweet, idk. Plus, the really effeminate and often cross-dressing male hero steps in to save the heroine from the lesbian's advances at a crucial moment... Although I kind of wish he hadn't. laugh God, I love this manga.

Heh, sorry for the digression! Please recommend more manga with lesbian characters/fanservice. eyes

The only one I can think of is Girl Friends, which I think is really cute, but it takes longer than one chapter for their 'friendship to develop further' (lol)! So, I think I failed you a bit there? Sorry! It's cute though!

I think you should pick some shoujo-ai series none or which have both shoujo and shoujo-ai genres such as http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?perpage=50&ge nre=Shoujo_Shoujo%20Ai&orderby=rating

@GunslngrGal92, thanks! I'll enjoy that manga! It isn't shoujo though, which is what I asked for. biggrin

@jackblack901, indeed some of those mangas are what I'm looking for, but many are not because they are actually shoujo ai - I'm looking for something that's primarily straight, just with some lesbian undertones. For example Shinshi Doumei Cross from that list qualifies, because it's basically a "straight" romance. (I didn't even KNOW about this one having lesbian undertones, obviously I have to read it now! Thanks!) But since most on that list are not what I'm looking for, I'd still appreciate more tailored recs if possible. smile

Oops, sorry! I kind of just assumed it was Shoujo, even though now that I check again, it's actually Shoujo Ai roll

1. Mai Hime
High School Girls- I think...can't remember. o-o

2. Zombie Loan- kinda heavy on the fanservice. O-o
Vandread- I've only seen the anime, but the fanservice seems to be played in the manga as well.

Edit~ Well damn...D'= Someone pointed out that you were only looking for shoujo...so sorry...;A; I completely looked passed that.

I feel like Clamp is what you're going for here. Card Captor Sakura? Tomoko? Yeah. I feel like Eiki Eiki and Zaou Taishi might also have some of the elements that you're going for, though there's almost doubtlessly BL thrown into the mix as well. Just look at Unmei ni Kiss - BL, het, and GL hints all at once! Also, I think Maria-sama ga Miteru is shoujo? At the very least, the novels were published in Cobalt, which is practically the shoujo publisher of light novels. Don't know how much straight stuff there actually is in there, though.

And just as a side note, keep in mind that a lot of GL, i.e. everything out of Yuri-Hime, is actually aimed at girls. No, really. The readership of Yuri-Hime (in Japan, at least) is some 85% female. Maybe you should add "main relationship is straight" in big bold letters to your top post? ^^;

I think maria-sama ga miteru is not what he wants though, since he wants 'straight' characters, and the manga consists of only girls :x

Ciel - The heroine's soulmate is another girl, although it's not clear whether either are actually lesbian. For me, this story is interesting because there is a man who loves the heroine, but it's he who needs her, and the person the heroine needs is the soulmate. The soulmate saves the heroine's life a number of times.

Seijou Kouchakan no Jijou - There is a lesbian character who hits on the male lead when he is switched into a girl's body. smile It's not shoujo, but I remember enjoying the lesbian fanservice in this one.

Hyakko - one of the characters is bi, but I think she mostly likes women. It actually makes this series super funny and enjoyable.

I'd like to add Blue (SAKISAKA Io) to the list! SUCH an awesome shoujo manga with a brilliant lesbian as one of the main characters!

Thanks to everyone for their recs (esp. those who remembered I'm only asking for shoujo lol). I'd appreciate even more recs. biggrin
