This is a weird request, but I'm looking for a manga where you think that someone will 'end up with' someone, but in the end, they don't. It doesn't have to be romantic- whether it involves a couple, friends or enemies/rivals, it doesn't matter.
Please note that I am NOT looking for a story where you abandon one person for the sake of another. You know, where the character in question is under the impression that he's friends/ in love with/ is the enemy (or rival) of one person, but eventually switches his attention to someone else? I'm not looking for something like that. I want a manga where, at the conclusion, no one ends up with anyone in particular- and it turns out that their relationships are a lot less 'serious' than the readers initially imagined.
In other words, I want something where the 'relationship' aspect remains unresolved and casual, and is not the main focal point of the story.
The only example I can think of is Do Whatever You Want where it's not clear whether Hosoo and Soomin are romantically interested in each other or not, and whether Jinwon and Hosoo eventually ended up not being best friends anymore.

Please DO NOT recommend; Adult, hentai, yaoi, yuri, shotacon, lolicon, smut, ecchi, harem, reverse harem manga.
Manga under the 'mature' tag will be considered- however, while I am fine with graphic violence, I will not read anything with graphic scenes of promiscuity or rape.
Other than that, I'm fine with any genre.

In order to not defeat the purpose of the request, please note that I don't want anything where romance, shounen-ai or shoujo-ai is the primary focus of the story. It's okay if it is 'on the side', not really relevant, or between side characters.

My lists are public, so please don't suggest anything that is already on them.

I know I'm being awfully picky, but if someone can think of something, please recommend!

I have the perfect suggestion, i have finished reading it a couple of minutes ago, Vampire Juujikai. The storu is pretty complex, and through the course of it the love/hate/alliance relationship change constantly.

umm what about if the relationship is "forced" to end due to circumstances. The one i am thinking of is a romance manga with romance as the focus but its got that unexpected twistthat you are looking for where the the two people who the reader thought were goona be together sooner or later just didn't. Its also not at the conclusion but like after 5 chapters or so. so yea if you can settle with that then i would suggest

That isn't what I meant at all, I'm afraid. I want it to be so that the relationship never 'started' to begin with...It must only appear so to the reader (or to the other characters in the story). So obviously, it could never have been 'forced to end'. Anyway, even if so, I don't like stories where "tragic circumstances come in to play to tear people apart mercilessly'', because tragedy is so contrived.
And I would prefer it if the romance wasn't the main theme; I don't really fancy love stories.

Therefore, Cappuccino isn't right either.

Well, I guess I lost any recommendations I could have gotten when I said I don't like love stories. Should have know that my request was too specific.

Nevertheless, thank you so much to the four people who replied! The only thing suggested that works for me is Vampire Juujikai. Demon Diary should have been okay, but I've been warned that a change of authors in the middle caused the plot to become messy, so no.
Still, I'm thankful someone took the time to recommend!

I'm open to any other suggestions anyone might have, though.

I love unexpected relationship changes, but I really can't think of anything which suits your needs- except Vampire Juujiaki, which has already been recommended.

I have an idea, though- why not check out this thread? Pure subtext
But be warned, there're a lot of fangirl-y posts here, so you might be rather annoyed.

There is a little boy love, but it is small and you can just kinda skip over it. Personally, I don't really like bl but I still LOVED this manga.
