Was looking for something like this..

An action manga focusing on teamwork and I don't mean sports. Like a SWAT team or even an illegal crimial team made up of hackers, snipers, swordsman etc. Whatever kind of team it is, it must involve killing. Where each member is vital to the team's success. However i only want the manga to have one protagonist so like the manga focuses mainly on this guy.

What I do NOT want is that the protagonist manages to complete missions by himself and can handle hordes of soldiers by himself without any strategies etc. Its ok if he is the most talented out of them or the mosts skilled whatever but the other members must have some kind of role. Also I don 't want the opposite where the protagonist is just plain useless or a wuss or doesn't do anything throughout the manga. Its ok if he is like that at the beginning but he must have raw talent, like good reflexes etc to make up for it and I hope to god he becomes a badass later. Also don't want a guy who's a justice freak, basically an idealist lecturing about peace, not wanting everyone to get hurt etc but if this changes after some time then thats OK with me. The less ideals he has the better.

I would prefer a mature manga showing blood and all that and where characters can actually get hurt or die so i guess that rules most of the shounen out.

Please no yaoi or shounen ai. Any other genre acceptable

Manga like this would probably be

Until Death Do Us Part--the dude is pretty badass, yes he can take on heaps of people by himself but he does require help and all other characters are an integral part of the team especially the precog girl and that computer dude, They all come together and really complement the dude who is an expert strategist and fighter.

Gantz--to a lesser extent really. Kei Kurone turns into a mean badass and there is some team tactics involved though not that much really.

Jormungand
Ibara no Ou
Dogs and its sequel.

Here's something to start you off with.

Ares
The Ravages of Time might work... I'm not really up to date on this one.
If you think about it, Fullmetal Alchemist works.
Veritas is leaning towards a teamwork series right now... but it could also go the way of the omni-hero works.
Claymore
1/2 Prince
If I remember correctly, Otogi Matsuri should work.
Witchcraft Troops
Zombie-Loan
Akumetsu totally works unless you don't count clones.
Shin Angyo Onshi works also... I think.

@calstine

thanks but have watched the anime black lagoon and its basically just been this badass chick Revy wasting away heapsa gangsters, yakuzas etc with two guns which seem to have unlimited ammo. No teamwork involved really. Thanks anyway for suggestion.

@Rip131

Fairy Tail is a bit too childish for me. I was wanting something more mature. It doesn't really have teamwork though, and there is too much focus on friendship and Natsu seems like the typical shounen hero. Battle Royale seems to be what I am looking for so I will check that out. Ares, haven't read it because the art doesn't appeal to me but I will try again and see if it works out. Thanks a lot.

@Toto

thanks for pointing other threads out. I tried to see if there was a thread like this but couldn't find it, my bad. I will check them out Ravages of time definetly seems quite interesting, one question though, does it focuc on just one person like is there only protagonist? Wow I never really thought of Claymore and Fullmetal alchemist and Shin angyo onshi as mangas which focused on teamwork but I guess you are right its kinda like that. Problem with 1/2 prince is that it doesn't really involve death does it because its played out in a virtual game but yea anyways I will be checking out Zombie-loan and the others. Thanks!!

Gurren Lagann pretty much meets all those requirements... teamwork, wussy guy becomes a badass, some killing, everybody in the team is helpful... give it a try.

@john

Ravages of Time starts with an epilogue of a monster coming for an emperor's head. It makes you think that there's only one main char. Later when you read it you find yourself finding one "main" char in a group of hitmen/spies/ninjas...who have to do something. They work in a team but when the teams not there...or split up...the focus move to the main char. I'd recommend you to read it, it's quite good.

Break Blade; Guy who lives his peaceful live is called by one of his best friends (friend A )to take part in war....against his other best friend (friend B). He only agrees to do that since his love is married to friend A. It's a mecha manga and it's a war fought in groups.

Neon Genesis Evangelion; Well...if you don't know what eva is about...no comments.

D.Grey man; People die and these people hunts down demons who wants to find Noa's ark and kill all humans....again. Main char got demonized and is fighting in a group against the demons.

Psyren; Save the future, fight the bad guys....in teams. Mainstream though...but still better than bleach and naruto.

Red Eyes; Guy wants revenge over his group/underlings who put him in jail by betraying him and his country who were winning the war. As he progress with his revenge people join him...mecha like break blade but more bloody.

Break hands; Little bro has to hunt big bro cuz he kidnapped the princess and killed off their father which made her mother try to do sucide. He joins a group while trying to find out why his brother did it, save his mother and himself from being traitors.

btw read every disaster or doomsday manga with a few survivors and you will get your blood and teamwork....an example could be: highschool of dead (zombie hunts highschool survivors) XD

...sorry can't remember anymore..too tired...need zzz...hopez it helpz

Trace -- You should definitely give Trace a try if you haven't already. The first arc is about a lone-wolf type kid and I didn't really like the first arc, but after that you follow a group that's trying to work against the government. All the members use their powers and contribute and they have a very well-constructed plan in which everyone is important. The main character in the second arc becomes super badass after he gets an upgrade on his powers.

Sidooh -- Again, in the beginning there's not much of a team, but the brothers end up joining some sort of group. I'm not entirely clear on what the group does, but it's got a lot of teamwork and the older brother starts off pretty wussy but gets stronger.

Project ARMS -- kinda. They get together as a group but I can't really recall them working together really well.

Dragon Eye -- also kinda. The girl joins the group and they all work together pretty well, I guess? And of course the short moron-esque guy has special powers (though he's actually older than he looks?) XD

Also, despite never having read them, I'll toss Switch and Dolls out there.

@magica_poof

checked out trace and i and well the way it is presented makes the actions scenes pretty easy to follow. I have only read like 15 chapters and even though its not teamwork,its pretty damn good so don't really care lol. I like the kid so far and his power is cool plus there is some romance as well it seems so the first arc seem pretty good to me. I was wondering though since I haven't reached the second arc yet, is the lone wolf kid/Gwon included in the second arc or is it a different protagonist for each arc?
At the moment I am reading just trace but will check out the others once I have finished upto the amount of chapter available for it.

@John21 -- He kinda disappears. I can't really recall if he gets any cameos, but after the arc ends (and the arc about Jin ends -- Jin is part of the team in the 2nd arc) another arc about Gwon starts again (though it's mixed with the team since they actually start interacting and bringing the plot together). I liked the romance aspect and I really like the girl, but I wasn't too fond of Gwon himself XD

The teamwork really starts in the next arc after Gwon, so maybe you'll like it too smile

@magical_poof

yea I am reading the 3rd arc now. The 2nd arc was quite dramatic and am feeling quite sad for Mister Beggar and quite angry as well. Anyways thanks a lot for recommending trace. Feels like another version of x-men but more tragic andt so far its been pretty damn good so yea thanks!!
