Looking for very touching manga as the topic said. Something like going through hardships, overcoming obstacles, etc. Where the characters are very lovable, you will want to support them, cheer for them, be good friends with them. And yes touching.

Examples:
One Piece (Example: Sanji's Story)
Kaiji (Example: During the Human Derby Game)

Vitamin (SUENOBU Keiko) - FTW. Fits your criteria to a T. You really want to root for the protagonist.

Ibara no Majutsushi - kind of fits your criteria... but it's a one-shot.

Fruits Basket - I'm not sure if this counts... okay, it's shoujo... but as you read on, you find that all characters are "broken" or have suffered some kind of hardship. I cried towards the second half of the series. It's a bit long, but it was worth it.

Eien no With

This manga is so touching that you might think about your pet...

Also Hana no Namae.

And I totally second Vitamin and Fruits Basket.

From the same author as Kaiji, Legend of the Strongest Man, Kurosawa - especially the ending.

Noramimi has numerous touching moments, usually involving the mascot leaving the child.

While not an "overcoming hardships" sort of manga, I found Memories of Emanon to be an enjoyable and lightly touching story.
