The main purpose of this topic is to find a manga that fits the description, but if you think there is a book or a film like this it would be great if you suggested these too smile

So, I'm looking for a manga (book, film) which takes place in the real, contemporary world, but has fantasy/supernatural elements and a lot of action. A mysterious, surprising, crime story plot also would be nice.

The reason why I'm asking for this is that I really got into the Supernatural TV series (and it's thanks to some person from this forum who had an interesting quote from it in his/hers signature). It's about two brothers who fight demons, ghosts, vampires and other creatures like this. It would be great if your suggestions were similar to it, but they don't have to be.

Some more examples:
- from manga/anime:
Ghost Hunt (but there's not that much action here);
Death Note (but aside from the Death Note and Shinigami thing there's not much supernatural here);
Island (I like it because of the demon hunting);
Please save my Earth (again, not much action here);
Shingetsutan Tsukihime

- from books
The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher - it's about a detective, living in Chicago, who is also a wizard (spells, talking skulls and everything);
The Felix Castor series by Mike Carey - it's similar to Dresden Files, but the detective is also an exorcist, fighting demons.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

- from films
I think there's plenty of films which are not 100% realistic and are not set in an alternate universe, like The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Even films like The Matrix, Transformers and Inception, which are more sci-fi than fantasy, or horrors like The Ring or A Nightmare on Elm Street may fit. Although some of them are not very good.

I know I'm not very good at explaining things, so I hope you can understand what I'm looking for. If not, I'll try to explain again smile

The Mortal Instruments Series.
I love it so much. 8D I believe it's getting movies soon as well.

It has just about everything. Fairies, Vampires, Werewolves, Witches/Warlocks, and humans! Angels too.

City of Bones (Book 1): http://www.amazon.com/Bones-Mortal-Instruments-Cassandra-Cl are/dp/1416955070
City of Ashes (Book 2): http://www.amazon.com/Ashes-Mortal-Instruments-Cassandra-C lare/dp/1416972242/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
City of Glass (Book 3): http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Mortal-Instruments-Cassandra-Cla re/dp/1416972250/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b

It's still ongoing with a 4th book. And she's writing a prequel as well. I think it is already out.

EDIT: The fourth book is already out!!! And I call myself a fan. D8

City of Fallen Angels (Book 4): http://www.amazon.com/City-Fallen-Angels-Mortal-Instruments/dp /1442403543/ref=pd_sim_b_4

EDIT 2: Oh wait, it's not. Phew! XD Comes out in April. 8D

Fate/Stay Night although I'm far more inclined to recommend the visual novel rather than the manga.

I'll second kirabook's recommendation of the Mortal Instruments series. They're interesting reads.

And maybe you can try these. Hope they're to your liking:

The Dresden Files (Jim Butcher) -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!
The Nightside Books (Simon R. Green)
The Mercy Thompson Books (Patricia Briggs)
The Cal Leandros series (Rob Thurman)
Black Magic Woman (Jason Gustainis)
The Elemental Assassin series (Jennifer Estepp)
The October Daye series (Seanan McGuire)
The Kate Daniels series (Ilona Andrews)
The Jane Yellowrock series (Faith Hunter)
The Persephone Alcmedi series (Linda Robertson)
The Alex Craft series (Kalayna Price)
The Connor Grey series (Marc del Franco)
The OSI series (Jes Battis)

The list goes on, but not unless I know what elements you prefer. I have read all of these and can vouch for most of them. Some might not be up your alley, some, like the Dresden files, I can guarantee you'll like

EDIT: Didn't see that you'd already read the Dresden Files. Epicness.

How about Shiki althought there's not too much action there...
Shikabane Hime I liked the anime, manga is not translated that far yet
Dawn - Tsumetai Te I really like this one for some reason

Just what I could think of immediately...

I'm sorry, I reply so late ^^'

Thanks for all the manga suggestions. The only one I've already read is Dawn - Tsumetai Te (I even wanted to include it in the topic, but I forgot). Some of them are on my wish list, but I haven't heard about many of them... But all of them sound very interesting, I'll definitely read them as soon as I have some more time (exams :/).

About the TV series: I watched a few episodes of Heroes, about a year ago and I liked it a lot... I'm not sure why I dropped it, I should pick it up, thanks for reminding me smile I don't really like stuff about vampires published after Twilight, but so many people recommend me True Blood that perhaps I should give it a try...
My friend has just started watching Misfits and from what she's saying I don't think I'll like it... But maybe it will get better later.

Ashen-Shugar, thanks for all these books! I've only read Dresden Files (which is great, as you said) and the Mercy Thompson series (which is also good). I'll read the others as soon as my exams are over (I hope I'll find them somewhere biggrin)

Feel free to add something, if you think there's something that may fit my request smile
