It can be caused by any reason like:
- your favorite but not popular series
- good series that you decided to read even though you have bad prejudice first, be it in genre, rank, rating, or anything else (in my case I have bad prejudice toward shoujo, josei, yaoi, and yuri)
- series that, in some way, change you.
- etc.

As for me, it's Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (Novel) because I used to have bad prejudice toward light novel and this series change me.

Now it's your turn to share and please give the reason biggrin

For me, there is this pretty unknown One-shot called Kimi tte Donna Nioi nano? by MIZU Asato. I was pleasantly suprised since I didn't expect much from a Doujinshi, even if it was an original one. Well, it turned out to be oddly adorable.

As for my other surprising and and eye-opening experiences, look at the following threads:

don't judge a book by its cover!

Eye-opener

I used to absolutely HATE shounen-ai and yaoi,
I avoided every manga with the 'shounen-ai' tag, even if a lot of people found it good.
I finally tried reading shounen-ai, finished reading it today actually.
The manga name is Seven Days

I have quite a lot of those mangas, cause I couldnt stand weird/unusual/old art at first but after a long time and many manga I somehow got used to most stuff.

But the latest manga, where I got that feeling got to be Nozo x Kimi, cause the description just sounded like one, which I once tried and it had a really similiar plot (only found out later, that they had the same author...) but it was somehow "twisted and sick". But now I read Nozo xKimio and I like it, cause it seems to be a much "softer version".

Form me without question it is YKK. Totally change my perspective on the Slice of life genre and stylistic simplicity of manga art. A story does not need to be exciting or high paced to catch the readers interest.

Onani Master Kurosawa, it change me, make me realize the importance of friends, to be honest with yourself, there's still hope beyond desperate situation, don't afraid to apologize, etc.

Simply, it change me smile

For me, maybe Oresama Teacher, Wagahai wa Yome de Aru, Ao no Exorcist, and Kamisama Hajimemashita.

Oresama Teacher has a good art, and I really adores it. Since I like drawing, Tsubaki-sensei is maybe the one of the most influences in my drawings.

Wagahai wa Yome de Aru is the first Taamo-sensei's manga that I've ever read. Since then I began to read her other manga. This manga also realized me about my liking for couple with age gap biggrin

Ao no Exorcist, yeah I watch the anime first, but it is the first anime I downloaded online, and because of this I met my friends two years ago 8"D

Kamisama Hajimemashita, at first I hesitated since I don't really like the art, and at that time I haven't realized that I actually LOVE supernatural theme. After I bought the first volume, the day after that I went to bought volume 2, 3, and 4. I started to collect this manga until now eyes

Kimi no Iru Machi
Although it turned boring and repetitive now, I would always remember this one. At the time, I wasn't exactly engrossed in manga (mostly read the 3 most popular shonen OP, Naruto and Bleach) until I tried this one that is.

I've read History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi and Love College (both have some romance elements but not focused on romance) and liked the characters relationships, from then, I started to think "could it be I'm a sucker for romance?" Then one day when I got bored, I scrolled through "hot romance manga" and found KNIM. I said to myself "Hell, why not?" and started reading.

At first I was like, "hmm hmm ok" (well it started a bit slow) but then when it got to the romance part, I just couldn't stop clicking the next page with my right hand. Before I know it, I already finished the whole thing (just before it got boring) and thought "Well I'll be damned..... can't believe I actually like romance".

From then on, I started to read various kinds of other romance mangas. KNIM isn't that good now and it has plenty of flaws, but I'll always glad to read it back then cuz it was like a new door being opened for me.

Spice and Wolf
I hesitated at first cuz it's about economic and political matters, but when I tried it. It completely blew me away. The premise is great, intricate plot twists, likable characters, captivating settings and impressive way of how the story is delivered as well as executed.

Probably, [url]http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=127[url] the manga monster. I did NOT want to read that, but the story sounded so interesting I gave in. I was expecting a purely violent and non-interesting story.

Boy was i wrong, the manga delved into a really powerful storyline. I wont spoil the story, but I am glad that I chose to read it. Its a manga that opened me up to reading new manga without judging it beforehand...

I have to agree with Onani Master Kurosawa. It's amazing that a story that is initially presented with such a shallow premise becomes a complex and engrossing piece that touches on many aspects of life and goes through many ups and downs before it ends.

Love Hina is on my list but mainly due to the fact that it was the first manga I ever read and it touched off my interest. Plus I was able to learn about pretty much EVERY manga cliche I would ever come across just by reading Love Hina. It's also the most dangerous one for me because usually if I start it, I have to finish it and it's not short.

Also, I have to say Nana to Kaoru because I'm a sucker for romance and NtK presents it in such a unique way and the character insight is amazing. It can easily be called 'ecchi' but for me, it transcends that and their actions simply become a way to communicate without words. I liked it so much that I ended up being a proofreader for it, which was a first for me.

There are five series that changed my life, each slightly different than the other. Honestly, I've read thousands of different manga/manwhua/oneshots and sometimes its hard to remember the names. These are the ones that stuck with me.

1.) Red River
At first I thought it was like Inuyasha, but boy was I wrong. Its much more amazing. The heroine, the hero, the supporting characters, even the villains, I loved them. Its 27 vl long yet I've read it at least five times.

2.) Kare Kano
I really identified with the male main character. Though the art in the beginning was terrible, it was still a decent read. The plot was interesting and it truly gave you a sense of hope at the end. 21 vl long

3.) Usotsuki Lily
This one was so freaking hillarious that I couldn't help but laugh. It plays (and boy does it play) with your preconcieved notions about manga and quite frankly explains things that other manga simply gloss over. (I mean they're getting older yet they are still second years? Rofl) Btw its a gag manga 12 vl long and still going strong.

4.) Taiyou No Ie
This one made me cry, I also identified with the main character. I can relate to her feelings of loneliness and being abandoned, so much so that this manga has a special place in my heart. It also makes me very happy, cause yet again, there is hope!

5.) Legend Of The Sun Knight (Both Manwhua and Novel series, novels more so)
I got into this one because I thought it looked interesting and I'd read the manga of 1/2 Prince (written by the same author). The manga for LSK was pretty good but I was dying to find out more so I went and found the translation for the novels. BOY was I supprised. It was perhaps even better than the manga. I was blown away at how hillarious and funny it was, yet that it was still an extremely intelligent read. It changed my world. Legend of the Sun Knight is perhaps my favorite book in the entire world. I can not stress how monuemental that is. I went 19 years without a fav, and I'm a bookworm.
