A manga that centers around a specific job (or hobby) like cooking or sports mangas for example that talk about various aspects of the specified subject. Any manga that centers around the protagonist's career, not just having the work as a background. So workplace romances would not count, it would count if it was a guy who was invested in his work and talked about his work + some added romance.

Preferably no:
-Romance
-Over-the-top shoujo
-Unrealistic settings (no saving the Earth from global warming with bread)
-Yaoi/Yuri/Smut/Shoujo-ai/Shounen-ai

Thank you c:

hmm maybe:
Silver Spoon - all about agriculture
Karei naru Shokutaku - the art form of curry biggrin
Baby Steps - tennis career
Over Drive - cycling career
i think i have a few more on my lists, but too lazy to look bigrazz
they all have some romance in them though, so if the level involved is too much, sorry

2nd Hajime no Ippo Baby Steps Silver Spoon and Bartender loved every one of them

also i'll add in Eyeshield 21 even tho the physics involved are a bit less than realistic
Maniac Road is also one to consider. basically a guy turns his obsession over everything otaku and makes an awesome store everyone loves
and Beck it's about a musician

btw they all contain elements of romance, but it focuses on the career much more than the romance. eyeshield the chick doesnt even show till almost the end... maniac road the guy tries a lot.... doesnt really make any movement tho, and in beck romantic involvement is one of his main connections to his band, but they still spend more time showing him practicing/playing than showing their relationship.

The only one that comes to my mind is Rin (HAROLD Sakuishi) by the mangaka of Beck. It's about a high-school student who aspires to be a mangaka. Not that educational though.

You can also have a look at the following thread which tried to gather all sorts of educational manga:

Well, there's the obvious Bakuman. Surprised no one mentioned yet. But then again, there's romance in it, though as crucial as it is, I wouldn't consider it that important. And there's Skip Beat as well. Of course, romance. Even more than Bakuman. Well she herself denies it though... Few more, can't remember.

I second Bambino, Bartender and Silver Spoon, and I'll also add:
Team Medical Dragon - Surgeons.
Dance! Subaru - ballet and modern dancing. Once you get used to the style, it's actually quite nice, and there's surprisingly little romance for the theme.
Kuragehime - there's romance, but it's not too bothersome I think. Tsukimi is pretty cool when she starts designing clothes.
Maybe Nobunaga no Chef. The setting is unrealistic, but the cooking is realistic I guess.

Woah. A lot of stuff I read and love in the list recommended. Seconding Team Medical Dragon, Silver Spoon, Subaru, Bartender, Beck and Nodame!

I recommend Yakitate!! Japan for fun (mainly due to your bread comment and the fact that I'm a baker). The stuff is pretty interesting if you ignore the crazies in the story.

Then for more serious recommendations I say read 3-gatsu no Lion and Hikaru no Go for a bit of professional board game. And Kami no Shizuku because its an interesting insight into wine.
