I've always liked pieces from any form of media that have a large cast, instead of focusing on just a few characters. I guess you could say I'm looking for a more 'epic' manga.

I am okay with any genre or setting. But if there exists a futuristic manga with a militaristic setting that includes a larger cast of characters I would be in love.

Well definitely the more "popular" shounen manga such as Naruto, Bleach or D.Gray-man. They have a ridiculously huge cast just due to their length alone and I swear they add new characters and arcs daily.
D.Gray-man also somewhat fits the militaristic setting; while more fantasy than futuristic, it does have that somewhat futuristic feeling.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle has a large cast but they're borrowed from CLAMP's other works; while it's definitely readable by someone whose never read any CLAMP manga, the cast is harder to appreciate.

For something futuristic/militaristic with a big cast I recommend anything Gundam.

For shoujo recommendations I'd say stuff along the lines of Fushigi Yuugi and Kanata Kara.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Baccano! - 1931 The Grand Punk Railroad (anime) or Durarara!! (manga and anime) by NARITA Ryohgo and GINYUU Shijin/ SATORIGI Akiyo yet? They're well-known for their large cast of strange personalities.

For military or action-based series, I suggest reading (and watching) Full Metal Panic! Σ by GATOU Shouji/ Shikidouji and UEDA Hiroshi (sequel to Full Metal Panic! and to the anime) and Until Death Do Us Part by TAKASHIGE Hiroshi/ SONG Ji-Hyoung. Their casts grow considerably as the story progresses.

Have you tried the genre search already? There's a tag called Huge Cast of Characters. You might find one or two matching series.

I almost forgot to mention Bokura no Kiseki by KUMETA Natsuo. Huge cast paired with intriguing mystery elements. In a fictional country, a castle falls prey to betrayal and is destroyed under unknown circumstances. All those who died during the battle have been reincarnated into students of a certain Japanese high school. When magic used for attacks break out at school, the protagonist is forced to dig up the past and find out who is responsible for the attacks in his present and his past life.

Well, there are series with "lots of characters", but that doesn't mean that each character gets a lot of focus. Naruto focused a lot on secondary characters in Part I, but in Part II they mostly become generic fodder. :\

Anyway, I second Shingeki no Kyojin, 7 Seeds and Durarara!!, and I'll also recommend Tower of God and Kubera . Both focus on several main characters instead of just one. For Kubera, you'll wonder why the "main character is doing so little" until you realize that 10 of the characters are main characters, and there are a few dozen secondary characters that are Also important to the plot (by contrast, in series like Naruto, Bleach and such, most side characters are just extras with no role in the central plot). You'll need to have patience with these two series, the plot takes time to build up but once they do they're epic (unlike most Japanese Shounen, they don't just go from independent arc to independent arc. The central plotlines form a continuity so they become more complex with time instead of getting resolved by the end of the arc).

The author of Full Metal Alchemist has also recently started a new manga, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, which is apparently based on a novel that's considered "Japan's best historical fantasy epic" (though I can't really tell, I've never read it), so you might want to keep an eye on that.

For futuristic military setting... maybe Knight Run? I never got into it myself, but I know a few people who love it to bits.
