What would be the top reason you wouldn't watch a movie?
Very simple. What would be the main reason you wouldn't watch a movie?
Feel free to rank the reasons. ( I tried to cover list all reasons, if I didn't have a reason you wanted to pick. Sorry none you can yell at me in a comment below.)

**Raaarrr after I hit create poll I realized that the 1st option should be a little more detailed. What I meant by actor/actress cast as the lead role is an actor or actress you don't like got cast as the lead role. And I changed the wording from you wouldn't watch to refuse but forgot the to. *facepalm*

For me the top reason I wouldn't watch something is the actor/actress cast as the lead role. Following that would be the director, a bad trailer, and the last thing would be low rating. The rest of the things wouldn't make me not watch a movie.

The closest might be "bad trailer." But it's just that if I don't like the feel of a movie, I won't watch it. ever. like austin powers. bigrazz just not my kind of humor.

Bad trailer. If the ad can't make me interested, highly doubt I would be watching a movie

when I first saw the title, with the "refuse" to watch phrasing, I was thinking along the lines of "You couldn't pay me to see this movie". Like something you are so disgusted by, that you would never watch it. so I started thinking about how I refuse to watch movies by the directors Roman Polanski (who assaulted a young girl) and Woodie Allen (who married his adopted daughter). I don't want to support the work of somebody who's personal life disgusts me. I don't go out of my way to research each person involved in the film and make sure that they haven't done anything that offends me. But if its common knowledge, then I make the conscious choice to avoid that person.

But going more on the intent of this poll (reasons you decide not to watch a film) I would say that my first choice would be ratings/reviews. A good review can make me watch a movie whose trailer I didn't like. And a bad review can make me avoid movies whose trailers I did like. Also, I might skip trailers altogether and go straight to the movies if the reviews are good enough.

Top reason is that it looks and sounds stupid. Decided by a trailer is no longer viable as all trailers have become bad to convince lowbrow people to see it.

For me its the bad trailer reason.
If even the trailer is not good, how bad can the movie be?
Although I also have watched some movie that the trailer is good but the movie is boring.
I guess they already shown all the best part in the trailer.
At least they already try from the trailer.
As for rating, I dont really trust it.
Because everyone has their own opinion on movie.
And I have watched alot of movie that publicly has bad rating and very low popularity, but I think its good movie and deserve more.

I can generally tell, to around 90% accuracy, whether or not me or my friends depending will enjoy a movie based on a combination of the title, the trailer, and the summary. At least two of those needs to be present. I'm a little picky with trailers though, since my uncle makes them for a living.

Titles are actually fairly telling, if you think about it. Oscar bait movies tend to be one word titles, or 'The' followed by one word. Romantic comedies tend to be a phrase in the English lexicon denoting the theme of the chase. Action movies are one to five words in length, and the shorter it is, the more drama filled it seems to be.

Of course, this rule isn't nearly as foolproof as it could be. Just something I noticed about the titles of movies when I thought about it. Then again, it only counts with USAmerican movies, as I don't have a big enough sample size in other countries yet. I mostly only watch horror films, nowadays...

I second the Uwe Boll thing though. Hilarious what happened between him and Seanbaby.

Mmm.. Some options are kinda missing bigrazz

My top reason is kinda in vein with xtr3m3dude's comment above me. If the movie is of a genre or topic that is not of interest to me, I just wont go see it.

For example, Gravity. It has had good reviews, it seems to have very good visuals and direction, and I think the actors are just fine. Too bad that nothing I've seen or heard of the movie has actually made me interested in seeing it, since I just don't seem to care about the basic plot of the movie. 0G space survival with nothing out to eat the crew... meh.

I thought about the option "The genre" as a reason you wouldn't see a movie, but I decided not thinking that would be the only thing voted for. My train of thought was 'well no one sees a movie in a genre they don't like', but I wanted this to be more under different circumstances you would have watched it. An example for me would be The Last Airbender. I liked the show, and probably would have gave the live action a shot, but as soon as I saw who directed it I said to myself I'm never going to watch that. ( Along with his comment 'I couldn't understand how firebenders could bend without needing fire.' I thought well if you watched more than the 1st season you would have understood how. Point, it didn't matter how great the rating might have been, or how good the trailer seemed I refused to watch the movie.
Plot seems to be the same as genre an option everyone would probably pick.

Other options are missing? eek I racked my brain for about an hour trying to think of most things. What did I miss?

The more silly ones, like, "the movie is in my native tongue and I only watch movies in English (or foreign movies in general)". I actually know a few people who are like that, so I'm sure there are plenty of 'em out there. I guess native English speakers can often overlook this option smile

There's always the "I don't like movies as a form of media" and "the movie is too old" options. Not liking the picture style can be another (black and white, too much CG, too gritty, etc). Usually having "other" as a an option cover these reasons for polls.

Not sure if this is my top reason, but it's up there: I personally avoid movie adaptations of books that I've read, since they always disappoint me. That might go under the remake option though, but I wouldn't call it that.

For me, the director plays a big role on whether I will watch the movie or not. I believe its the director's job to make sure that the movie comes to life and be able to call bullshit when he/she see's it whether it's by the actors or whoever is on the set.

Also, I don't even think I can justify whether a movie will be good or bad based on it's trailer because so much crappy movies have misleading trailers that makes the movie look.. awesome. (Example, Avatar the last Air Bender, The Wolverine, Green Latern, Alice in Wonderland, Paranormal Activity 1-3 and the list goes on).
