Hello! Long time lurker here, finally signed up.

So, I'm currently watching this (pretty crappy) anime called Mayoiga where there is this male friend of the MC who is really possessive of him. I really dig this dynamic so I'm looking for something similar to that.

Basically, I want them both to be guys with decently sized roles. Preferably main characters, or at least major characters. They can be childhood friends, they can meet during the manga, they can be rivals, it doesn't really matter. The guy obsessing over the MC can be a complete yandere, or just possessive in general.

I'm not really looking for any full-fledged yaoi/shonen-ai examples, though if you know any feel free to recommend me some. Anime is also okay to rec.

I have read/watched Mirai Nikki. Something like Akise Aru is kind of what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

I am not familiar with the anime you mentioned, but I'll recommend this based on your description:

Golden Days has a possessive/protective friend who also has a crush on the main character. It is shounen ai, but they are mostly friends, and there is not really all that much romance (compared to most shounen ai. If you have seen/read No.6 it is about that intense.) The MC, Mitsuya, was sent back in time to save his grandfather's childhood friend, Jin, and is mistaken for his grandfather--who Jin is very protective of. It has an interesting dynamic in that Mitsuya has actually been sent back in time to protect/save Jin, so it kind of goes both ways.

Bring it on!
Seung-suh's bff is the possessive type.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
going so far as to telling Seung-suh he liked the same girl, because he knew Seung-suh would stop pursuing the girl and when the girl was injured and she was calling Seung- suh's phone, he broke the phone and never told Seung-suh about it.

This is not known until the final volume though.

Black Cat? The villain is obsessed with the MC and thinks MC should join him, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

There's a mix of BL and non-BL here, but either way the possessive one is the friend or rival, not the boyfriend:

Do Whatever You Want
So wa Reirei no Yuki ni Mai
Wild Adapter
Kimi ga Kimi de Aru Tameni
Tactics
Makai Ouji - Devils and Realist
Toukaidou Hisame and Toukaidou Hisame - Kagerou
Afuresou na Pool
Asterisk
Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru
Banana Fish
Yasha (YOSHIDA Akimi)
Aegis
Shiritsu Araiso Koutou Gakkou Seitokai Shikkoubu -- well, in the anime, at least. I haven't read the manga.
Moon Trick
Golden Days, as mentioned above. Though I must specify that the possessive one is the BFF; the MC is protective, yes, but not possessive.

And as for manga where the possessive friend ends up becoming the boyfriend, either explicitly or implicitly:

Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike!
Bokutachi Otokonoko
Koi ga Bokura wo Yurusu Hani
Yami no Kodou

Wow, so many! Thank you all so much! A lot of these sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I recognize some of these titles, so I'll definitely have tons to read now. Thanks again! smile
