Well looking into something mature to read about romance,"the adult side of romance" where it talk about the seriousness of others and how they distinguish the feeling they have. Something like Love junkies and some part where Eitaro argue back at Maiko act on what she say about love and sex which is 2 separate things! for her.

I think these apply as the more intricate romances than the ordinary Shounen/Shoujo.

Basilisk
Cry Out for Love at the Heart of the World
Fate
Itoshi no Kana
Le Portrait de Petite Cosette
Made in Heaven
Snow Queen
Yasashii Watashi

The only one I can think of is D-Ash.

Edit: It's on your reading list, sorry.

Yume de Aetara maybe, but let me warn you first that the male lead are so wishy washy that you wish you could melted into the manga and gave a serious can of whoopass! on him laugh. You might wanna check out Midnight Secretary and Kindan no Koi de Ikou both involved adult romance(the art is shojou-ish though). cool

Basilisk

Eh, intricate romance? More like your typical soap opera romance if you ask me, and even then, it's only second to the feud between the ninjas.

Edit: To add some of my own suggestions:

Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa
I've always been partial to Emma by Kaoru Mori when it comes to recommending Josei/Seinen type romances.
Angel Sanctuary by Kaori Yuki

And I would definitely second Koi Kaze, but only if you're mature enough to handle controversial subject matter (in this case, incest).

Double Edit: I noticed that you've all ready read Emma, so another recommendation would be:

Sunadokei/Sand Chronicles by Hinako Ashihara. I wouldn't say that it was an "adult" romance in the sense that they're adults, but it's a great coming of age story that has that an adolescent love element to it. The female lead finds ways of coping with the pitfalls of life with the help of a childhood love.

Feel free to check out my reading and completed lists, 99.99% of it is shoujo and romance.

Compared to a generic Shoujo, and definitely to a generic Shounen, yes it is.

There's a romance;

Spoiler (highlight to view)
They want to get married, but can't because their families are at war with one another. And at the end they both commit suicide because for the love they had for eachother. If that isn't an intricate and deep love, I don't what is. Though it is true, that the manga barely touched the 'romance' aspect, since it was intended to be a pure fighting manga in the beginning.

That doesn't take anything away from the few moments they do spend on that 'romance' if you can call it like that.

Well, in the end, it's all personal opinion of course. smile wink grin

Besides, I didn't see him complaining. Even if he was dissatisfied with the romance, he should have been more than pleased with the overall feel the manga gave.

Yes, I do realize that there's a romance sub-plot in the story, but a rather cliche one if you ask me. There's hardly any back story and scarcely any scene interaction between the two leads. I realize that given the circumstances of the story, their interaction would be limited, but I figured that the OP wanted to read a manga that dealt mainly with relationship issues. Besides, I wouldn't describe their romance as intricate, their situation maybe complex, but not their relationship.

My personal opinion of Basilisk is that it's a pretty entertaining ninja story, but on the drama/romance scale, it was fairly predictable. The end had me rolling my eyes because I saw that one coming from a mile away, but that's just opinion.

I'm not saying that the OP wouldn't enjoy the manga, I just interpreted what he wanted to read differently.
