This is pretty Generic

This manga is at best a 7, let's see there's several reasons why this manga won't ever go above 7 and that is.
* There is so little character development so that I'm not attached to any character that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
dies- which happens to a shitload of them apparently.
I couldn't go past chapter 30.
* It's Black and White, there is no deeper meaning or complex developments and even the one the author tries to show as mature and developed is shallow at best.
* the freaking constant power-ups

Now it had some redeeming factors(even if it's pros are outnumbered by its cons)
-The gore was a good shock value at the beginning and there was at least 1 character that had a dissociative personality which i found entertaining.

This started off great, Idea with the naive MC in a corrupt empire had potential and it could have improved but the author tried too hard and put wayyyyyy too many cliches that the manga barely branchs off the tree.
- The supporting villains of Jaeger are great, they are epic. But thats just it, the jaegers seem to be the only complex characters there.

I recommend this Manga as filler, if you're looking for something like fairy tale then maybe. But if you're looking for hardcore and excellent manga then stay away from this manga it's almost paper-thin.

I personally find it sad that the supporting antagonist are far more likeable than the good guys(night raid) like seriously I could relate more to the Jaegers than I ever could with night raid.

for example, Esdeath's personality is epic, screw the good guys they make me want to give the manga a lower rating, Esdeath's epic Sadistic, hopeless romantic persona FTW!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I like her ability to be sadistic yet hopelessly romantic and the ways she trys out love but I am actually quite appalled by her addiction to battle, It's one thing to enjoy a battle that comes to you but to rape, pillage and murder entire tribes and letting some live so that they may raise another army to fight you is VERY distasteful. I also hated the way she fell in love with the MC, This is a generic harem story, it could have been epic, her character could have been fleshed out even more but the again the author tried too hard and was unable to bring out my beloved esdeath's 2-sided true personality sufficiently

then the tale of Bois and Wave, gotta love wave
-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
country boy from the sea, I view his character development as a better country bumpkin story than our main character's development.

Bois doeeeeee He's great, his story is great.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
A member of the Empire's incineration squad, he burned entire villages since he was ordered to and it didn't matter that many of the villages were most likely innocent. But he's not a bad guy, just soldier following orders and what's more endearing to me is that He eventually marries and has a child, which caused him to seek redemption. He was killed by a girl who came from a village that he had once burned down; He never got to say sorry to her despite his wish to do so...that shit was epic.

Yeah the villains make me Rawr more than them crappy heros of justice.

Shitty life in a Crapsack World...

Interesting setting if one had a quick glance at it, but then after first two volumes, you beginning to feel that this is very very very one dimensional generic shonen storyline. It is the epitomy of Good vs Evil with plenty of unnecessary gores, impactless death. Sighed... only in manga. The world don't work that way!

Alright. The empire is evil, there's no doubt about that. The people who work for it are pretty much psychopath or mentally unstable. It's hard to understand or feel anything for them other than which one bite the bullet next. The hero is what you expect from a kid who cry a lot and have inflexible sense of justice, spewing nonsense about justice like you expect.

So, a corrupted absolute government with a gang who believed in their own sense of justice, rejecting the current regime and loves each other like a family... holy shit, it's like a shittier version of One Piece. There is nothing mature or funny about this story. It felt like the author tried too hard to give some reasons for why the villain do the thing they do like Oda's style, but just got it very wrong.

-- Constant power boosting
-- Bad guys after bad guys
-- Power of friendship
-- Unsophisticated Bosses
-- Wimpy, dumb-ass, moronic MC
-- Unrealistic Romance (Harem, nuff said).
-- Lackluster humors (It made what suppose to be a serious fight into a joke)

I thought this story was suppose to be mature, but it's not. The only adult thing is the pointless "gore" that the manga could done without. Don't expect complicated emotions and thoughts in this story and just enjoy it for what it suppose to be: A Shounen Adventure.

Generic garbage
by Hokuto
September 20th, 2014, 1:13pm
Rating: 5.0  / 10.0
A perfect example that gore in itself doesn't change anything. What we basically have is the epitome of trite shounen garbage, that hits absolutely every cliche in the book, and where trite shounen archetypes kill people instead of killing some monsters.
Which means nothing since all characters are just one dimensional stereotypes in a one dimensional story. There's nothing "dark" or "mature" about it, just standard shounen with silly guro that's completely out of place. Add to that extremely bland and unoriginal art style and trash character design.
Overall below average, stay away if you want anything more sophisticated than Reborn with silly guro.
5/10

How should I put it... Akame ga Kiru! is a manga for those who can take a few deaths and a lot of gore. If you're the type who would rather read fluffy shoujo mangas - this probably isn't for you.

Don't be deceived by some low-ratings or 'disappointing' reviews. All characters, including the evil ones, have a background story and connects to the way they are currently. Such as a certain anonymous character, who treated poorly in the past and wanted to kill all evil. If you think about it, it does relate to why she wants to kill people who are unjust in her eyes. (As in, people who treat others poorly are evil).

The protagonist develops his character throughout the story. Starting with being a crybaby, naive bumpkin to becoming an evil-slaying (although a little dense) somewhat smart man. However, he develops these characters by witnessing death and becoming stronger emotionally and physically.

The antagonists can be summed up in one word: Warped. In other words, they're insane mentally and have a very distinct perspective of the world and what is justice to them. Not gonna lie, some of the characters are disgusting.

TLDR; TOO MANY DEATH FLAGS.

This is it! A series that will keep you addicted! I am enjoying it very much. In here

The dead stays dead, and that's final

Definitely not your average shounen series, even the tag has been changed to seinen (last time I check, about three months ago I believe, this was still has shounen tag).
I don't care about the romance in this series, whether the MC ends up with some girl, or with the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
villain boss (the girl with the cap)
, doesn't matter. Sure, it has some cliched moments (I believe you know all of those moments) but it only add some spice to the story, and like I said, it doesn't matter.
I just hope that the author won't drag this series for too long, or getting axed....
A must read if you're getting bored with generic series!!

Fatally flawed

If this was any other battle manga, it would probably be one of my favorites. It has fight scenes that are suspenseful and will constantly betray your expectations. Hell, the main romance is currently a love triangle that the titular character isn't even a part of. So much of it is done very entertainingly.

There's a slight problem though. If you actually think about the setting for even a second, everything about it falls apart. Apparently, the capital is Sodom, but if the populace was evil, then the only proper answer is to torch the place and let holy hellfire destroy it all. It would seem the general populace is good though, so why aren't most of them up in arms? There is something of a rebel army, but most people seem to be completely oblivious the the sadist nobility. Sooo, why isn't the band of assassins doing anything to expose the heinous atrocities of evil?

a mix of seinen and shounen in fantasy setting about corrupted imperial against the rebel, lots of blood, human abuse, gore, but it also has cute and heart warming moments so I was a little confused, still it's probably one of few shounen that I would read.

The art is pretty good, and loads of gore makes you think that it's somewhat adult story... but, wow, plot is just so naive? it makes me sick. Even fairy tales introduce more complex characters, "Akame ga Kill" has only black and white.
I'd rather named this series "Righteous assassins of justice against villains of S&M kingdom".

Disappointing

The manga start off pretty strong with a decent plot. A naive hero moving from country to the capital with desire to save this village; then he get involve with an assassin group who's doing typical shounen things. The art style is good; the gore and twisted scenes was pretty nice (though they're a bit unsuitable for a Shounen manga). The first 15 chapter start out pretty nice pace with the hero get to know each member of the organization, each of them has different past but overall, they're either rejected by the society or just outlaw. The point is, there's no link between their past with their current behavior (For example: you are treated poorly in the past, you grow up wanting to kill all the evilconfused).

The author try to make an unpredictable plot; however, it serve no real purpose

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
as the author killed of some characters unnecessarily; however, there's not enough character development for the readers to feel emotional attach to the death

The main character is just typical Shounen male: heroic, one dimensional, a little emo, cry very often. However this is a Shounen manga, so I would expect just as much.
The story get succumb into typical crappy Shounen plot (because there are many good Shounen plot, this one is not) very quickly: heroes constantly spitting nonsense about good and evil as if the world is only black and white. The moral of the story is broken even though the author try to make the villain as evil as he/she can. The heroes and villains are one dimensional at best. Some characteristic was introduce: glutton, sadist etc, and most of them are shown in a skew manner and unrealistic.

Humor are put in different parts inappropriately, during fight, or between villain and hero. Typical shounen humor including: cooking, romance, hot spring, blush, shopping etc.

Romance is introduced very forcefully like most cliche Harem Shounen i.e. girl blush and fall in love with boy after a few sentences; and the other males are just fodder with no real purpose. The story turns worst after the sadist general (suppose to be villain) suddenly fall in love with the hero in the most nonsense way possible (she need to know how to feel in love... give me a break).

The teigu is a pretty interesting power system as each of them has different characteristic, function and rules; however, there's nothing special about them (Example: water control teigu, 1 hit kill katana teigu etc.)

Villain are introduced one after another, and heroes cut them down one by one; it gets boring quick.

Overall, 4/10 very disappointed to a highly potential manga.

Stay away if you want a more... sophisticated shounen series

Don't let the high ratings and the words of praises fool you; Akame ga Kill! isn't for everyone, and that includes shounen action manga fans.

Let me get this out of the way already: expect gore. It's definitely not hardcore gore, but the level is still gratuitous and thus something you would not expect from a shounen series (if you thought Hokuto no Ken was gory - and I didn't - wait til you read this). Like sweet one-shot girls whose faces get skinned in a matter of pages? Yep, this has it. You also get the feeling that characters are introduced/developed just to die (though the deaths are still nowhere as heartbreaking as Eden: It's an Endless World!); this is a minor issue to me, though.

Second, and probably my main beef with this series: psychopaths abound, as Imercenary already pointed out. Villains are disturbingly demented, but at the same time... are boringly one-dimensional. Perhaps the author is trying to introduce elements of moral ambiguity by making the protagonists rebel assassins (and they know it), but on the other hand antagonists are just that: evil. This is typical of the shounen genre, yes; however it still pales in comparison to the levels of moral ambiguity present *even* in mainstream shounen titles. Villains who are overtly evil, particularly sadists and gluttons with the impeccable evil laugh, are just not my cup of tea; if it is yours, then bon appétit.

I'm not going to go as far as say "don't read this;" after all, I still haven't dropped it. Consider yourself warned, though.
