Spoiler (mouse over to view)
when i started this novel, i was like meh..
few chapters in i was hooked. but as the story moved past 150+ chapter, i started to dislike this story and at chapter 287, i just stop reading it. why, author is trying to portray a deucebag as nice mc. first of all, mc's entire cultivation career is cheatbook leveling up. i get it. other novel does it to, but not to this extent. other people spends years leveling up. mc just conveniently finds some stuff, eats it and levels up. and not just one or two rank, a whole lot of six to seven rank. that is a bull##.
next, i get that mc practices some good techniques. but i still fond it hard to swallow, when he defeates people who are far too stronger than him. and this a typical shock and awe tactics that xianxia author employs. where mc defeats people with higher cultivation. but yun che takes the cake. that's some pretty ridiculous plot armor.
MC's character and personality of the females around him. first of all he chases after any women with a importance and quite cheesily. just how many women needs to satisfy this mc! and despite that they still fall for them. he even raped and impregnated one of them. and one of the girl he put a move on is 10 year old and another is his father's sister.WTF...
also the antagonists. half of them wouldn't have been antagonist, if the mc had acted like a moderately decent human being. other half went apeshit, because author has a hair up there. i mean take this scenario. mc and a dude fights in a tournament duel. mc defeats him and declared winner. dude can't take it and unleash a ultra move while mc's back is turned. now take into account this only happens with mc. other people who lost to other people in the same tournament just walks away or gets carried out. secondly the dude just got his ass kicked BAD. he shouldn't even be able to walk much less execute a lethal technique. now mc turns around, blocks/perry dude's move and unleash one of his own. the dude's father/brother/teacher jumps in, stops the technique and moves in to kill the mc( also happens only with mc). mc blocks the killing strike using his Devine plot armor and shoks every one. now the statutes( the people in charge, who should have stopped all this ages ago) moves in, steal glances of mc and everything settles down. dude and co. left to lick their wound and plots to kill mc later.
and the women. they have no self respect when it comes to mc. in the story these women are portrayed as cool, highly talented, super powerful chicks. but when it comes to MC they just turns stupid cow. they ignore some very disturbing flaws of mc. whether he is married, or couple decades younger or a pseudo pedophile or a womenizer etc.

Interesting web novel~

MIGHT BE LONG? SORRY
Pros:
-The MC(smart, cunning, arrogant, romantic, strong willpower, kind and at the same time cruel, knows how to pay his debts., caring, and much more)
+Fast-learner
+Having experienced alot in his two previous lives, he has gained considerable knowledge and experience and knows how to make use of these in interactions with other people, judging their personality(especially sensitive against hostiles because of his 2nd life), and has considerable knowledge about medicine and making full use of his abilities(example where he was doing acupuncture on his wife and he could control his ability to it's best even if it's low-level at that time because of his 'constitution')
+Arrogant for a reason.
*He never goes in and acts arrogant unless he is confident that he would come out as the winner in the end or that he has someone to back him up(some strong guy, the crowd/audience). The only time he failed is when he was banished from his clan at the beginning because he thought that his wife's master would come to help him but she didn't.
+Most of his actions are thought through.
*You should pay attention to everything he does. How he acts and moves his body. The words he says. Because each and every one of these has a role in all of his little plays with his enemies.
*He pays attention to all your words and actions and uses them against you later on.
+He knows how to treat and get his ladies. Every woman (except for maybe ling'er and little aunt) in his harem went through a process of a thing called "courting" which rarely exists in the vocabulary of other harem novels. Even his first wife and little fairy(woman he somewhat 'raped' to give her new special profound veins) didn't have feelings of a lover for him at first and he had to work for it or needed time to come out. They don't blindly fall in love with him just because he's the MC. Women usually fall for him because he gives his all to protect his friends or someone he vowed to protect. For example, he protected little fairy when she became crippled and didn't even let a single scratch on her while he was full of bruises and covered in blood. He never gave up, even giving her a reason to live again, and that made little fairy(Chu Yuechan) have feelings for him which she didn't notice at that time. Who wouldn't love that kind of man.
*He plants the seeds of romance(In different ways wink lol) in his target's heart and waits for them to bud.
+He knows how to pay his debts
*Be good to him and he'll be good to you 100x
*Be bad to him and he'll pay you back 100x
*Make him owe you a small favor and he'll pay it back with something great.
*Aim to damage his face and he'll cripple you. (He doesn't like getting his face scratched…AT ALL)
*He is someone who is better to be friends with and avoid being one of his enemies.
+Throughout the story, he gets looked down a lot and he always finds a way to shut them up. Especially the audience during tournaments. He doesn't particularly hold a strong grudge for these kinds of things and just likes making them shocked and making them hope they didn't taunt too much.
+He has a very strong will to live.
*He has very high tolerance to pain and can survive through things a lot of "masters" would cry in. He's been chased by masters for his treasure and been through life and death several times. He's been through the thorough destruction of his vein to obtain new veins. He's been through two trials which have low survivability. He's been half-dead and stuck in a seal with a demon but came back healthy and raring to go. He's been trapped in a space where his body was being destroyed and he kept his technique up for healing. Repeating the cycle of destruction and repairing of his body, which must hurt like ****!.
+Cares about his friends and family.
*He knows how to treat friends and family.
*A single hair on any of his family member is worth enough to destroy even a clan. DO NOT TOUCH THEM IN A WAY THAT HARMS THEM.
*He gets very worried about his friends and family members when he doesn't know their current status. He does whatever he can to find them unless he's in a situation where he currently can't go looking for them.
-Decent world-building
+It's interesting I guess. Above average? All xianxia/wuxia novel's worlds are basically similar anyway.
-Other characters are done well.
+Each and every character are made well and you can differentiate each and every personality. Until the MC gets very strong and they all start to be in awe toward him. Sometimes they lose their character.

Cons:
-The MC
+Sometimes goes too far. (People who aren't used to brutal stuff may not like him)
-Audience/Crowd/Other people
+Sometimes they are too dumb. They look down too much on the MC just because of his level, forgetting what he has done so far.
*For example, he just took down one of the guys who looked down on him in a competition. Crowd goes wow or omg and be in awe or fear. Then suddenly a stronger guy than the previous challenger comes out and the audience looks down on the MC again.
-Antagonist?Enemy?
+Sometimes they're too dumb or too arrogant to take seriously. There's never a real antagonist?
+Only very few people can be considered real enemies and most of the people on their side are pulling his/her foot.
+Each and everyone he fights are usually the same or similar to each other.
-People of this universe judges others too much based on their power levels. But I guess that's why it's a place where it is said that only the strong has the right to say.

Though I would have given it a 10/10 because I like it ALOT, I couldn't because the cons section isn't blank :C. Unless he actually faces true enemies, then I'll keep it at 8 for now. Let's just hope his master's father is perfect for the role.

Very Easy Read Turned Guilty Pleasure
by cnd

tl;dr: It's generic but does generic Xianxia extremely well with a great MC. First book blows on the first read through so I would highly suggest reading through the first two books before deciding whether or not you want to drop.

You will not find a ground breaking novel that challenges your intellect here, but if you're looking for that why are you even reading Wu/XianXia in the first place? What you will find is a mostly likable protagonist that's quite funny, a decently exciting world, the stock bad guys from similar genres, and a decent amount of fast paced action (after the first book anyways) which makes for what is currently my #1 guilty pleasure read.

The biggest problem I have with this novel is that it starts of extremely slow and only really picks up after book 1, but who really wants to read a full book without a large emotional attachment to any of the characters? Don't get me wrong, I understand that there needs to be changes in pace for the fast paced parts of a book to have more impact, but there's a difference between slowing the pace down and forcing the reader to watch grass grow. (which, again, I believe stems from the fact that no one is going to be emotionally invested in all the random characters introduced at the book's beginning -- re-reading the beginning is much better)

It's quite formulaic as well, but, again, I knew that going in and so I don't mark off any points for it. If I wanted to read a existential analysis of the world that challenges my world view and makes me question my humanity I would read Dostoevsky; I don't, I just want to read about a likable MC beating the crap out the world, finding random powerful level ups everywhere and getting every girl. This books serves that purpose very well.

A note on the translation -- while not perfect (and can you really expect perfection from volunteers working off donations?) it is quite good and easy to get through, unlike some other translated light novels/wuxia.

MC is crippled at start like usual. He is reincarnated into a marriage with the most beautiful girl in the city, and he gets hated on for being "trash" for a long while.

It gets really good after that. MC is ruthless, flirty, and has that Shonen willpower.
He's not OP, but he never really loses either

I've tried to read quite few wuxia & XiaXia, and all of them have exact same boring scenario, if you have read one of them = you know all of them, dont waste your time on this one as well. There is only few novels from this genre that are wothy to read, this one is not one them. And i had so much hope for this one as well, because its rating was high, how dispointing.....

If someone treats the MC with genuine kindness, he'll return in tenfold. If you mistreat him, he'll return the favor a thousandfold.

Nice torture scene

Harem without "harem"
by Mushu
October 27th, 2015, 12:55am

The good:

1) MC is not pathetic (rare for harem)
2) MC is ruthless but not unjust, if you were to give him a motto it would be "an eye for an eye", and he's extremely intelligent
3) Fantasy world is well put together and interesting
4) The harem females are not retarded. They each have distinct personalities and it is definitely not the cliche harem.

The bad:

1) Combat is kind of stupid. Every foe is the same
2) Author seemed to take a page from like bleach. The MC just happens to unlock powers as he needs them. He defeats people that he should never be able to defeat. Hoping he has a challenge in the current arc

Definitely my favorite series at the moment. It also gets translated very quickly, 5-10 chapters a week, so it makes it that much more enjoyable.

So, i actually hate harem stories... to me, they feels demeaning woman existence. Not in here! The plot its well played, the way mc feels four each of his girls feels real and not being forcefully developed. In overall, the story its elaborate. Even the small trivial info mentioned at the beginning of the story can develop to be a very important thing.
The mc is very clear set on his target too, even if he appears top be taking it easy
Love the way how
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how sex leads to unexpected pregnancy

Shows that the mc can be flawed, unlike coiling dragon
I have read to 5th volume if the raw and I must say that the story development us amazing...and the reunion scene is flawlessly executed
Big minus its that the antagonists all have similar to exact same characteristic....

Enjoyable fantasy but everyone besides the MC have 0 IQ
by moredrowsy
October 11th, 2015, 5:21pm

The fantasy is entertaining if you excuse the following:
1. Long paragraphs of beautification of females every time they are mentioned in the story.
2. Unimportant facts are over descriptive, ie bullshit writing.
3. 99% of the characters beside the MC have zero IQ.
4. Everything is solved through raw power. No smart play, strategy, and etc. Just brute.

Besides these faults, the story is entertaining for an action series. Luckily the writing is very simple. If you skip 70% of the bullshit writing and just read the dialogues, the story is fun. I wish the translator had another version where they just omit the bullshit writing...I don't need another 3 paragraphs reminding me of how beautiful that girl is or another 5 paragraphs reminding me what this skill can do, not do, could do, should do, would do for the fucking 10th time.

A cunning thug
by alphaGulp

So the MC is fun because he is, for once, actually cunning enough to be somewhat realistically successful with his Thug Lyfe.

His interactions with 'elite' / hard-to-get women are also fun, in that they are far more realistic than the vast majority of LNs out there. The author seems to have a pretty good handle on how to flirt and tease women in a seductive way (a real player).

So although we still get a harem, the women are actually much more realistic and the steps involved in hooking each one are far more intricate, so it is quite a bit better than the usual LN 'romance'. (ex: no need for the plot to give the MC an aphrodisiac that 'forces' him to rape his virgin women - in this case, the MC is actually able to progress his romantic relationships without such pathetic plot devices...)

But even then, the MC is more of a pick-up artist than anything else, so it's not like the romance feels like much more than just trying to get laid with a series of super hot women. But still, trying to get laid with somewhat realistic (personality-wise) chicks is better than fantasizing about totally artificial yandere/BDSM/loli/childhood-friend archetypes impossibly getting attracted to some clueless but plot-armored protagonist...

Sometimes though, the MC's revenge plans can be so elaborate that they are cringe-inducing for the reader - it is just too much, and at a certain point I suppose it just starts to feel too disproportionate.

---

Anyhow, I enjoyed the series for a while, but I'm getting a bit tired of the lack of higher goals for the MC. He basically is just trying to get laid and get stronger, while screwing over the other thugs in his environment (100% thug world).

But seeing how this anti-hero of the series proudly doesn't give a crap about anyone but himself (and his babes + hangers-on), it has been fun to watch a new translating team pop up with the motto "we don't give a f**k", which seems very appropriate given how the novels basically teach the readers to emulate exactly that kind of behavior. At the very least, I do not see how the original translator(s) can complain about any of this, since they seem to adore it when the MC does it...

LOL.
