No story

Art's great but no real development. It's like reading ah my goddess until you finally hit the storyline in the 20th volume or reading detective conan and getting little main storyline plots every 15 chapters or so.

Great series

Even though people complain about the characters being boring, I personally find the main character to be sweet and the girl actually not annoying. The main people in this series are actually nice and I enjoy reading a manga in which characters care about each other. Though it's not as funny as 1/2 Ranma, it's still quite funny and makes me laugh often. Overall, I really like it.

Just what Celianna says plus I dislike the level of stupidity used to make even the most tragic moments into no more than a joke. This is nothing new for Rumiko but after 40ch it's been anything but that and considering I just find that humor irritating I can no longer keep reading, the mini-arc about his father and debts was just too much.
Tried reading this twice and I'm pretty sure there won't be a third.

Rumiko shows she is long past her prime

Rumiko Takashi has been one of the main stays in the manga world since the late 70's.
One of the best mangakas of the 80s with Ranma and my favorite manga Maison Ikkoku.
It would be ridiculous for her to still be producing industry dominating manga almost 40 years after her debut. Nobody is on top in any field for that long.

Personally I think that her manga peaked in the 80's. I stopped enjoying her series in 90s, after about the 1st 1/3 of Ranma where the series started to deviate from the original formula.
I disliked the shounen cliches of Inuyasha and now we have this series.

While using an episodic format like Ranma, the characters aren't endearing, the humor isn't as amusing, the action is not as good as the early Ranma battles and the MC does not have the versatility that the split Ranma does.
One thing that is surprising is how balanced Sakura's personality is given Rumiko's own admittance that she prefers her characters to be flawed. A lot of people have commented how this makes her boring and I tend to agree given the context of this series.

Kyoukai no Rinne is not a bad series and certainly not an unreadable one, but it does very little to distinguish itself on the market.

Will She Fail... NEVER!

One thing that I admire about Rumiko Takahashi, is that I've read one chapter, and I already see it's potential, as of now, it can be a mixture between the Ranma 1/2, which is set in fairly modern times, and Inuyasha, which has the Ghost/Demons premise, all in all I can say i'm not hating it, obviously it's RT delivering another great adventure, as this is the first one that she's put out while i'm conscious of it, i'm glad... nothing less or more than 10. One would say, it can get allot better.

Update:
I feel I have been on another Rumiko Romp. By that i mean, i feel as if i'm reading one of her works, and by THAT i mean i'm really enjoying it.
As of Chapter 42, It's doing exactly what It set out to do, It's establishing it's calm, peaceful and supernatural atmosphere. I also appreciate the fact that Rumiko didn't bring back her classic archetype characters. Where they are always fighting and never really being true to their feelings. Because in Rinne, the characters... Kinda like each other. It's really passive, which i love... I'm tired of stories where girls' hearts are fluttering from their first meeting, and a guy who seriously wants to impress or go out with her. It's calm, I love Sakura the most, because she is SO calm with just about everything, In all reactions, be it a potential love interest, or being dragged to a the Damashigami world of hell. Rinne is a great funny character, more mature than Inuyasha, and less indecisive.

For all who think that you may be prejudice to think that just because it's Rumiko, it has to be based on THAT fact that we like it, is just plain ludicrous. We all have Bias and Prejudice notions in EVERYTHING we do, So sure i'm prejudice, but I'm also prejudice to people that kill people, because of the fact that they KILLED people! Anyway, you looking for an Epic adventure like Inuyasha, Then you should read it just to gauge your taste. But if you like anything else, regardless of Genre, then you will definitely enjoy this Romp as i say. It's still a 10 for me! Have a nice day!

ok, i have something to say. what Rumiko is strong at if NOTHING else is makeing an intresting setting.

and if my memory is correct she has fallen face first in every attempt at makeing a long term manga, with 1 exceprion. anything under 10 volumes however is a prety decent read.

and am i the ONLY person who sees that this is being set up for a long term manga? i will give it to her though, the first 100-200 chapters are going to be great. but when she pulls out the o its going to end, SUDDEN PLOT EXTENDING DEVELOPEMENT card, than you will see what im talking about. and here let me guess it. he suddonly fills the quota, but they forgot intrest.

now let me get onto another point, emperor26 mentioned the artstyle. look back to Ranma, or even Urusei Yatsura and tell me you dont notice it. for there time they were well drawn in comparason with other manga of the time. but this, just look at it. look at the characters, than look at the backround, and tell me you dont see it. she makes the character look passable, not to good, but detailed wnough that later you dont wonder who people are because there are so many who look alike. but backrounds are cookiecutter and blank sace a few that give an illution as to being well drawn. shie is a compleat minimalist and that style is whowing its age. character desighn aside just look at the backround. isnt she one of the wealthiest women in japan? and she made the wealth off manga? you think they could throw some assistance who are good at backround art her way.

sorry i got off on a tangent there.
but to sum it all up, this will be an intresting read, which will fall on its face. it has bad art, but its passable, and i have NO hope for the future of this manga given the mangakas track record with ending them.

as of now (chapter 8) i give it a 9, and i will uptate that every so offen as i read more and more.

Another Great Hit!

After 13 years, Rumiko Takahashi has found a great hit once again with Kyoukai no Rinne, her first manga since Inuyasha.

Her art style is a great improvement in comparison to her previous work, but its the pace of the story that kept me reading the moment it came out. The cast are well thought out and honestly, quite different to begin with. The one thing I hope won't happen is if this manga goes for another 12 long years.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to more chapters from this series.

sorry, I like TAKAHASHI Rumiko.
and I like to compare her new manga and her older manga.

well, I like Urusei Yatsura, Ranma and Inuyasha but not Rin-ne. (I feel something wrong when I read Rin-ne)
