What started as a need for some college entrance exam tutoring has somehow led him to being romanced by a suave older man who also happens to be his big brother’s best friend. Confused by all of his brand new emotions, Misaki struggles to deal with his suddenly very odd life. And if that wasn’t enough, his suitor, Usami Akihiko, has plenty of issues of his own. A man-child who decorates his room in giant teddy bears and toys, Usami is a famous novelist who also writes steamy boys’ love novels on the side. When Misaki cracks open one of these books and reads sentences like “Usami licks every inch of Misaki’s hot body”…well, let’s just say that all hell breaks loose. Plus it doesn't help with Usami claiming he's in love with him.
Junjou Egoist: Kamijou Hiroki is a broken man, consumed by unrequited love for his childhood friend, Usami Akihiko (the writer from Junjou Romantica). Along comes Kusama Nowaki, whose name "Nowaki" means "typhoon", an orphan working his way through life since middle school. Like the typhoon he is named for, he whirls into Hiroki's life and heart, blowing all resistance away before him.
Junjou Terrorist: As fate would have it, Miyagi Yoh (whom Hiroki is working with as assistant professor) and Takatsuki Shinobu, a high school student, cross paths. Bits of pieces start to link together from the first two stories. That aside, Miyagi, who has a sad hidden past in himself involving a relationship with his teacher, is faced with Shinobu, who just says whatever is on his mind. I prefer the Egoist couple, followed by the Terrorist couple (which is fine, I guess), and then the Romantic couple (which I don't like much and mostly skip...so I don't get to read much...). My favorite couple has like 2 chapters in 200 books, so I basically abandoned it years ago.
Nowaki and Hiroki are just fun. If I could change one thing, it would be for Hiroki to be a little more friendly with Nowaki - cranky is fine, but sometimes it's too mean. Also to have him not be afraid of initiating sex (they've been together for years, get over it). I think the author could pull that off and still keep him in character. But I have yet to see that happen...
Overall, it's... not the worst. It's got some really low points that last a reeeeeally long time, though. If you're not 13, then I'd recommend loving crappy romances (like my friend) or else being pretty damn drunk while you read this.

Yes, I gotta agree that the art wasn't the most perfect thing. But I have to admit that I could reread this manga over and over again. Just to say, it was a killer searching for the actual manga volumes in stores.
I really like the story line and plot. Found the characters cute and fun
Just didn't bother reading the ... terrorist one, the name says half of it. It was the worst, jus terrible if you know wut i mean!
Hope they make more yaois like this one!

I have been reading Junjou Romatica for years. At first, I did not like Junjou Romatica. Usami and Misaki couple did not seem to fit together. Usami was in love with Misaki nii-sama, and he did not love Hiroki his childhood friend. The more I read me more I understand Usami and Misaki background. Usami from a rich family keep wasting he’s money not saving for his old age like Misaki say. Misaki who do not have no mom and dad just nii-sama. That nii-sama was taken care of him. I think they need each other. Misaki tell Usami what he need to do, and Miskai take of him. If it were not for nii-sama letting Miskai live with Usami he would not be sick again, he would not have meet his favorite Managka, and other thing. Misakai want a job so badly he do not want Usami take of him. He wants to grow up not a brat that Usami see in him.
My favorite is Junjou Egoist, Hiroki was deeply in love with Usami. I can understand why. Usami was as cute as a kid was quite, behaves well, and made a move on Hiroki. Usami is not like that no more but more of a pervert now. Not many first loves are meeting to be. Hiroki is a little bit like Misaki. They both yell for many reasons. I like how Nowaki falls for Hiroki just because he was crying from a broken heart. Nowaki is really Hiroki type. He is cute when he smile, or get sad, and wanting do something together. Hiroki would not want to do. Nowaki want to be Hiroki equal, because Nowaki is younger than he is.
Junjou Terrorist the story I did hate. Miyagi and Shinobu have long age gap love. Its as if Shinobu is in love with he’s uncle, well more like ex-uncle now. I do think it was fate for them to be together. Like what I watch on South Korean you meet three times, they you are meet to be soul mate. Beside Shinobu, do not like doing stuff that is fun, which work out well for an old person like Miyagi. It has somewhat hard to understand why they are in love. I guess they are blind by love. I do wish Shinobu take a cooking class, he cooks the same foods that is not healthy. They are more like an old couple. They go places they need to buy, and do not have fun. I hope there more good to this story.

i really love this manga.. because this manga also i become Yaoi lover..>< i think the artwork isn't bad.. i like it.. i don't understand why ppl said the artwork isn't good..(hey! you think you can better do that rawr!!) and once again i really don't understand why ppl don't like the stories?! grr!! i think the stories are really great. My fave is Terrorist!(Miyagi and Shinobu they're so cute they're loving ecah other but both are same embarrassed to confess it! Cute!!>.<) i also like Egoist(NowaxHiro kyaa). i dunno ppl have different perception each other but for me the stories are sweet!! first i a bit 'yuck' heard about Yaoi manga i just thought Yaoi! Yuck! boyxboy? hello?! how many girls left in this world, heh?! uh! no comment!! but when my friend recommended me to read this i'm started to like it(not only this but also other Yaoi) and never feel 'yuck' although just a little!(sometimes when i read other Yaoi manga i'm still feel it). i'm smiling when the story sweet.. i'm laughing when it funny, i'm dropping tears when it sad, and my heart is trembling when it happy sweet or painful(i love manga that can make me like this).. I gotta say I'm disappointed about the art, it looks terrible sometimes. However, the author seem to know how to leave one with feelings. My favorite stories the ones with Hiroki in, and I don't like Usagi/Misaki that much really but I can't say I don't feel any for it, but from time from time it's really irritating, cliché yet it have it moments. I haven't read the whole manga yet actually, but I remember from the anime serie.
If you can be bothered by the bad art, I think this one deserves a chance. I'm soo weak for Hiroki's story, the rest I just fast read through, or even jump over.

Usagu pisses me of with the whole "you want this? then I'll buy you four of them" crap. And his face! He has right triangle for a head. And his mouth looks like a line with a line under it and he's always wearing the same expression. I don't like Misaki, at all. I guess he's half-way decently drawn, but like a previoues commenter said, I dislike the tsundere attitude. As for the other couples, I cared less for them than I did for Misaki and Usagi.
Well...

I think I'm one of the minorities here that can't find what's so special about this series that make it hugely popular. I've tried to read it and hoped that it's as amazing as many people said..but honestly I just couldn't find it no matter what..the story is pretty typical for a yaoi story and there are lots of other stories with similar plots and even similar characters. On top of that, the arts just turn me off, they look more like sketches to me and not to mention the un-propotional body parts like hands and legs. It might be one of unique aspects of mangaka's art, but for me arts are as important as story in a yaoi manga. I didn't give lower rating since I quite like Junjou Egoist, which characters are much more loveable than Junjou Romantica. If you like Nakamura-sensei's work, I would suggest one of her works "Hybrid Child" which is waay better than Junjou series in terms of story and characters. It is one of my fave yaoi story, sad yet very beautiful which leaves longer and stronger impression rather than a typical comedy yaoi.
A good story that catches your attention at the beginning

When I first saw the series, honestly, I didn't like the art as much. But I decided to give it a try since the story seemed quite interesting. I really liked the beginning. I got used to the art as I read on (found some parts of her art adorable.) Her sense of humor is amusing and I loved the idea of multiple stories in one series that all connect. Good series. -thumbs up-

i'd put off reading this for years because the art turned me off so much when i first tried. i've now grit my teeth and read to volume 6, and i gotta say, i am dead tired of misaki's tsundere antics. could we have some character development please!? i don't much care for hiroki either, for the same reasons, though OMG, he actually managed to give nowaki a peck (but he had to beg for it first). i really hate tsundere (though heck, it's not even clear misaki is a tsundere, i don't see much dere here). for somebody who supposedly doesn't want to give anyone trouble, he sure creates a lot of it, and he doesn't seem to learn anything. i hate characters who treat everyone else better than their loved one, and who never trust their loved one if that person warns them about somebody else -- this is a person who really cares about you, how about taking their concerns seriously? you don't have to follow it slavishly, but consider their advice at least? it's perfectly possible to write a character who is embarrassed by affection and his own feelings without turning him into a massive jerk, but too many mangaka seem unable or unwilling to do so. seriously, i find it hard to like any of the characters. ok, nowaki is generally a sweetheart, but what sort of moron leaves for an entire year of studying abroad without ever contacting his lover? un-effing-believable.
i can't believe this is the same mangaka as hybrid child which is so sensitive and poignant. the art simply isn't very good, doesn't convey much nuance in expressions. i don't get it because nakamura's art is quite good in earlier work, but here it's just rough and chaotic, though it is slowly improving. alas the rough art also means the explicit sex ain't all that explicit; i often have trouble making out what's what, and yeah, so not hot -- but then i don't get my kinks from watching huge seme penetrate tiny uke anyway; despite not being tiny myself i always suffer sympathy pains. not like i am reading this for the sex anyway, but really, if the story doesn't improve real fast now, i'm gonna stop reading. 7 volumes is enough of a chance to give a manga. this is one of the rare cases where the anime is actually better than the manga, certainly as regards the art.
