Description
From Yen Press:
A sweet "aww"-inspiring tale of school life begins. At school, Kyouko Hori is known for being smart, attractive, and popular. On the other hand, her classmate, the boring, gloomy Izumi Miyamura tends to get painted as a "loser fanboy." But when a liberally pierced and tattooed (not to mention downright gorgeous) Miyamura appears unexpectedly on the doorstep of secretly plain-Jane homebody Hori, these two similarly dissimilar teenagers discover that there are multiple sides to every story and person.

I just read 2 chapters and all that i can say is THIS IS A GREAT SERI. Good art, good story, i'm really looking forward to knowing how the story will develop.
Hope that would end up with a happy ending. Beside, I recommend genre "seinen".

I have to say, that i am completely in love with this series. When it says "likable female lead" its almost never true but this girl is just...wow shes none of the manga girl cliches (angry, misunderstand quickly, weak, stupid blah blah blah) and her "secret identity" is pretty normal, but you can understand why she would wanna hide it. im not even gonna start on miyamura because there are too many things i like about that character. just too many. the story topic isnt that original but they really executed it well and the progress is at a great pace, not really "holy shit they got together fast, what just happened" and not so long that youre yelling at the screen wanting them to get together already xD loving it so far, i really hope for an update soon

Horimiya's great. The characters are really wonderful. While they're not particularly original, they are all very likable, relatable, and reasonably realistic. The humor's also quite good. It feels kind of like slice-of-life because there isn't much conflict or drama.
I don't really understand the whole "we can't let other people see the real us" thing, but it doesn't particularly bother me either, so I'll let it slide.
Horimiya's a head above the usual manga slush, and I definitely recommend it.

Likable Female Lead Indeed
by Lightbrand
January 4th, 2013, 1:12am
Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
It's not often you see that tag here at Baka-Updates, and boy does it make a difference in an otherwise pretty standard story.

The male lead isn't overly awkward when it comes to the female lead even though he was given the typical traits for a male lead in this genre (never had girlfriend before etc) but instead of blushing and twitching whenever the girl's around (like many other MCs), this guy just go "ok cool" and go with it. He doesn't shy away from a likeable girl wanting to be with him.

And speaking of likeable girl, the female lead isn't a childhood friend, ice queen, idol. She isn't a tsundere, clingy, (overly) violent. She's a normal girl who has a lot on her plate which gives her a very mature aura although sometime she wish (and the audience too) she could enjoy her teenage life more.

Then comes the problem, there's hardly any drama when these two are together, if one of them confess their feelings they'd no doubt get along fine themselves. The problems can only exist from external sources (classmates, parents, personal history). But not from within those two and their chemistry, this is a story where they are cute together and you enjoy seeing them together unlike the ones such as a harem story where the problems are from internal sources (the relationship itself) and often you roll your eyes at the character interactions.

A simple story yet very well done. The pacing, the characters and the overall feel is just perfect.

Can't wait for more.

One of a kind (in my opinion)

Its a good manga. Its not one of those rushed romances, and even though im not a big fan of shounen manga, (i watch shounen anime though) I absolutely enjoyed this series.
I think that the fact about the main characters hiding their 'true selves' in school and being different people outof school, is something that quite a few people can relate to (well, its some that I can relate to).
Which is why i give this a 10/10! ( Others may have their own opinions though)

Unexpected Twist

It's tough but you gotta be able to handle that first unexpected twist. It's smooth sailing if you can; if not, it'll gnaw at you the whole way through.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The dark, glasses-wearing kid from school who was always left out for being shady goes home afterwards to put in contacts, style his hair, insert his 9 piercings, and switch from a winter, long-sleeved uniform to a short-sleeve shirt that still hides his designer tattoos and muscular body... Who could have imagined that his secret side could be that of the most attractive guy in school?

Shocking, I know. I thought I'd be able to overcome this but it beat me in the end.

- Edit for Above -
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I enjoyed the aspect where the main characters share the piece of themselves that nobody else ever sees. The problem I had, though, is that the male lead's "secret side" doesn't make sense. Who goes home after 9 hours of school and has to switch into contacts because their glasses really tired their eyes out? How does a little kid give himself 9 piercings and not have anyone notice? Who gives 3 tattoos to a middle-school student (I hope he was that old), and how has he hidden that for the past x years?

I saw this manga on my facebook home page by coincidence through the mangafox fanpage. I started reading it for fun and loved it. I thought the "side that no one knows about" was kind of like "Switch Girl" but I like Horimiya's drawings and characters more smile

Sweet Friendship
by Nemurenaiyo

I discovered this manga just recently and I am quite attached to it right now. I love it how the two main protagonists have good chemistry and enjoy each other's company. They get along well because of having to share secrets with each other. However, it frustrating how 'cliche' it could get. It may sound ridiculous but it really is predictable... 'Due to the presence of random characters invading on their secrets that the friendship between the two would become loose'. Something more or less similar to that kind of thing. If you have read Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun and enjoyed it, you might find the plot to be nearly the same (I'm referring to the common and cliche fact that revolves around Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun : the hero gradually becomes popular with the female students as soon as he is discovered to be quite 'good looking' and open to conversations).
Otherwise the manga is quite enjoyable. The art is good and the heroine is likable too. The hero? His predictably BLUNT. But this manga is recommended to shoujo readers!

It's a pretty nice and light-hearted story. Even though the whole "hiding my true identity in school" thing is not really original, but I think the execution of it is quite well done. The story is nothing too cheesy or dramatic.

The characters are quite likable people. We have a female lead that is quite cool-headed, a nice and friendly male lead. The pace and flow of the story is quite alright. I love the art too, it's neat and well-drawn. Overall, a great and simple manga that is sure to warm your heart. smile
