I, as many others, had this on my list for soooo long and kept putting it off (part of the reason is that it said "tragedy" and i just CANT HANDLE tragic endings... but this ending wasnt tragic it was perfect!)
I wish I could give it greater than a 10, it makes me want to go through my list and drop some of my ratings to 9 because they have paled in comparison to Basara. The story is so amazing, and the character development is absolutely phenomenal. Some longer series make me rather impatient and feel like I just want to get to the end and get it over with, but I savored every last bit of Basara. It drags you in so much and tugs and pulls at your emotions the whole time. So many times I was tearing up and so afraid that I would just HATE HATE HATE the ending.... I am glad to be proven wrong because everything was prefect
I couldn't stop reading the end of the series so here I am at 6am haven't slept yet and I am writing the review lol. ITS JUST THAT GREAT! In my top 5 for sure now!
PS I do wish they did a follow up story for chacha and her romantic endeavors as they did for many of the characters
PPS everything keeps reminding me of this story!! Listening to "Lies" by Trifonic and even now I am thinking uuwaaahhh sarasa and shuriiiiiii!

I have read so many mangas and books but none of them quiet left an impression like Legend of Basara, by far one of the best shojo manga ever. And make no mistake, I rarely praise mangas especially shojos like I do with basara, this is a true definition of a gem of a manga. The reason why I hold this manga in such a high pedestal because it explored every human emotion and balanced every genre well enough to create the perfect world and story.
Where can I start, well let's see
Story: might sound cliched but make no mistake Basara was actually one of the leading mangas that paved this storyline for further generations to follow. I consider the story to be well executed because everything paced perfectly and made sense.
Charchters
The main character is one of the most compelling female heroines that I personally came across while reading manga, she's unique, despite being strong, she has her weak side, you could tell she was indecisive and was insecure about her Sarasa persona. The rest of the cast fit well and helped the story develop and move on, they make the story. In fact, make no mistake this manga would be nothing without it's characters, the story did not shy away from introducing new characters that actually had a role in the story.
Overall I give this manga 10/10

I really like the story and the characters. what I did NOT like however, is that it drags onnnnnnn and onnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
I'm tempted to skip to the end, my patience went POOF. But it's good anyways.

I finally got down to reading Basara after a long time. Although the story starts out a little weak, it does get much better after a while. I loved the cast and how they all evolved. Yes, even Asagi who became a really different man from the snake he used to be. However, the weak point of Basara is the writing style which turns what a potential well-written story into a slightly convoluted mess. Still, it is quite interesting and it deserves at least a 9.
Wow!!

No need for me to say but this manga rocks! I read every single volume of it. I've cried, laughed and basically loved this manga all the way through. Yeah I have Skip Beat and Vampire Knight, but seriouslly, I think this is like ranked all the way up there. It is, in one word, perfect!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this series. The art style is kind of...old...and the story seemed cliched from the description. I'm glad I still decided to give it a try, though! This work reads like a fantasy novel...it contains very deep character development, fascinating plotlines, and a rich fantasy world! Perhaps not a series for everyone, but definitely worth a try!

i didn't want to read this one for a long time because of the cover art didn't interest me... then i read the summery and bought the first couple of books and BAM! i fell in love!! this manga is sooo good... the romance is sooo good this romeo and juliet type love almost.. except doesn't end in tragedy... but ah so good... i recomend this!! it is sooo interesting and funny and cool and UGH just so damn good.. i think i made my point.. haha
At first, when I first started reading Basara, I didn't find it particularly interesting, special or captivating. The art style of Basara isn't the kind of art I am used to and generally prefer.
However, when I started reading more of it, the story and the art began to grow on me, and now, all I can say is that the art is beautiful and really presents the essence of the characters. The plot, script and characters are meticulously formed, and the result is a heart-wrenching, intriguing story full of twists.
As each of the characters grow, change and develop, so will my love for the manga.

the story starts off well but then it doesnt appeal to me anymore...it gets quite draggy, the main female character looks and appears weak and i got quite irritated as the story goes on...basara is different yet it's not good enough...it fails to capture me like other good shoujo series...
